I think this is being done now because if you look at the area at Al haram in google earth u can see the shape on this expansion taking place in the proposed area ...I do not hate the idea because Islam is fasting growing alhamdulelah, there for more space is needed. Do you know how many people are injured as a result of the density in Al Haram during ramadan and hajj? Look how much Makkah has developed in the last 1600 years or even the last 100 years. So its time to make more room :)

@TheLordTortilla Actually a lot of the science that was brought to light in the recent 100 years was already mentioned in the quran 1400 years ago. If you like, there are many books about the quran and modern science that might interest you. The quran is very different than other religious scriptures...It will truly fascinate you if you give it a fair shot :p.. anyways, look up the quran and modern science. Speaking of the moon, the quran mentions what science didnt until very recently =)

Al Wahab is one of the names and atributes of Allah and should not be used in a bad way. My prime objection is that this design hampers the tawaf around Ka'aba. Especially after removing the existing "Ottomon Arcade" tell me where on heck would people tawaf on the existing 1st and top floors of the remaining building?

Any design must keep into consideration the free circumambulation of pilgrims around Holy Ka'aba.

They are constructing the Kaaba with the technology is available in 21st century to provide the best services to the Pilgrims. Imagine if they don't built the floors and facility for the people. how will 5 million people can do hajj at a same time? is gonna be trash all over the place. simple is that , this is a requirement for millions of people gather together at a same time for 10 days.

I support this... They need to expand Mecca fast, because we are 1.6 bio muslims. WE NEED Bigger city, more hotels, bigger mosque, bigger roads, more hostels, more restaurants, shops... Mecca must be expanded so they can take more people on pilgrimmage... dont be selfish and disagree with this project just because it doesn't suit your taste. I think its beutiful. And the "original" mosque is only bout 50 years old, designed by the bin Laden family.

@ahmedM85 Main thing is More pilgrims can pray and relax at ease, and reduce further the risk of stampede in the high season of Hajj. The outside of the Haram is way to small when crowds start to gather, when the inside of the complex is packed

@ahmedM85 I had my reservations at first, we all dislike something we don't understand, but the design incorporates functionality (space) as well as safety features. Coming from a engineering background it will work Inshallah. Although a very challenging project considering its a Holy site.

@ahmedM85 I think its a brave design, Makkah has been here for thousands of years, so its always going to be dificult to please people who are stuck in the past. I agree with you its a necessity to accomodate more pilgrims, the thing I like about the design is in the evenings the huge pillars will act like shade barriers.

It's all very well with this new expansion but, do people realise, this is one the major signs before the Day of Judegement? Why is the Arabian Government spending billions of $ on spoiling the real beauty of doing Hajj? This is a place where all Muslim Brother and Sisters come together to unite in one belief. I'm so disappointed that this is happening. Inshallah, I would like to go on Hajj some day, to the same place where my parents did Hajj and to feel the closeness to Allah (swt)....

@Jabeen28 The Signs are unavoidable, no matter how hard we may try. Besides, this is a necessity. With a growing population, we need more room to accommodate all Muslims. Not to mention, with travel accessible to more people today, there are going to be more Muslims visiting the Hajj. Besides, I rather have the government of Saudi Arabia spend billions on the house of Allah rather than building massive palaces and shopping malls that are of no value to the Ummah.

very nice, im really pleased to hear that something like this is being proposed.

the whole video and plan is about increasing the amount of muslims who can pray in the mosque. an even more important things that they have not throught about at all is the people doing tawaf. during hajj the last tawaf done when everyone comes back from hajj is so crowded that its impossible. they need to think about that first. people read on streets & works. but tawaf is done in the mosque which needs space!!!

You know, when last time, the Ottomons expanded the mosque, they gathered the artisans from all over the world. and if there were those who were not muslims, an entire generation of theirs was brought in and waited for so that the children converted, learnt the art from their parents, and applied that to the mosque
