I love to listen to Mahalia Jackson. Not only was her voice annointed but she was an ambassador for Christ. My grandfather would remind all the grandchildren that: " Mahalia Jackson walks with God." Truly, where ever He led her, she followed; during some of the most dangerous years.
Now I know what side of my family I got being real about, cause I always wondered why I speak and treat everyone like I wanna b treated. yes this is my family my grandmothers first cousin. Mrs OrA D HENDERSON BURNAM
How many can you find singer live up to what they express in their song. GOD bless you Ms. Mahalia Jackson and thank you for sharing this clip. GOD bless us all
This video demonstrates Mahalia's unconditional love. It's a lesson in restoring this planet to sanity. We should listen and absorb her good message. "Listen to them . . . show kindness to those who feel nobody cares about them." It's so rare nowadays.
That bum gets a quarter from Mahalia, and goes down the street and begs for 50 cents for a cup of coffee from Grandma Jones --, that 75 cents,--- he heads straight to the liquor store and buys a beer to feed his alcoholism, cusses you out, then goes down the street and starts all over again begging for a quarter and he looks so bad someone now gives him a dollar bill and he feels like he hit the jackpot! Catering to anyone's substance abuse at any time does not help them or society.
@Marshallmiracles and maybe he gets a sandwich instead. We just don't know. General statements such as yours leave no room for doubt. Facts leave no room for doubt. Do you have all the facts? She was talking about human respect, not money, and I admire her view. If you want to walk by alcoholics and scorn them as trash, then you do it. She chose to not do that. We need more like her.
@Marshallmiracles In fairness to you, I do have to admit that neither they nor society benefits. I just feel that suspending judgment and taking the risk is worth helping others and letting go of doubts. Life is a risk, and some people look at it differently.
@Marshallmiracles God is the one who does the Judging. Long as you know in your heart that you did the right thing, that is all that matters. Maybe the "bum" will go and buy crack, but its not up to her to judge. She did the right thing by having a giving, sharing heart.
Awesome - Thanks for posting the masterful wisdom of one of the greatest black women of all times. She may not have been an intellectual but she possessed rare spiritual insight. She practiced what she sang about. It seems that so little emphasis is placed on love; especially in the churches of today. However, Christ stated that a love of God and for others are the dual greatest commandments. Mahalia understood that succintly!! Please post more of this wonderful interview if possible!
Thank you for posting her message--much needed in this day. The lack of empathy in our culture is alarming. Her life is a testimony of visiting prisons and hospitals--much love in her heart.
