I´m from germany and here are shrinky dinks not very popular... so as i watch this video, i decide to buy such plastics, out of which you can make shrinky dinks, from ebay, because it looks like fun!
And yes it is! I make a kind of charm bracelet with 13 little harry potter figures ( amongst
others snape, tonks, luna, the moaning myrtle ;) ...) it`s so cool
By the way, i like your shrinky dinks also very much! They are made of awesome! And i understand how much work it is. So if you want to sale them I would offer them for 10$ or even more... i mean they are handmade ... I would actually pay still more... they are from you! *-*
I`m looking forward to see you the next time crafty!
Please post a link to your etsy shop when you get them going! I'll probably buy one as long as they're moderately priced (and maybe signed by the artist!).
$3.25 sounds about right (which Includes shipping costs).
Craftiness rocks. Admittedly, I've never quite grasped onto the concept of putting anything other than food in an oven. Perhaps, however, I'm not as craft as those whom bravely toss all types of non-food material into their oven(s).
It takes different strokes, right. IF you do your homework, you will feel SO MUCH BETTER about the whole situation. LIke I said, "IF". The choice, as always, is entirely yours to make.
I can totally relate! Crafts are awesome for procrastinating because you usually end up with something you can use or wear, and you don't feel like you completely wasted time.
You see those other finished shrinky dinks in this video? I had to shrink those in the oven too. The one I filmed happened to be the last one I did in that set. When you put a pan in the oven, it gets hot, whether you're planning on putting it back in the oven or not. By wearing that oven mitt, I was keeping from burning myself on the pan that I had just taken out in the oven thirty seconds earlier. Classic?
my day was awesome because lauren used her kitchen for something other than cooking! but seriously, where can i find these shrinky dinks? they sound awesome and i want some!!!
I really want the mockingjay pin! I would pay, like, five bucks? Maybe four? I'm sure they're worth more, but I doubt that people would buy them at more than $5. Though, price could vary depending upon the amount of time, effort, materials, etc. that you put into each. So I suppose somewhere between $3-6, depending upon certain variables.
I would pay 5ish even though they are probably worth like 10. However at 5 I will buy more than one, I swear. They are awesome and if I was in one of my crafty moods I would totally make my own.
You sound exactly like me! Any time I have loads of homework, I have really strong urges to do something artsy like draw or play piano or make a video or something like that. Yay for procrastination! <3
I think you should make a contest, like John's 10-word-comment contest, and then give the shrinky-dinks away to the most awesome commenters (read: me)
i get in the mood to make cupcakes or cookies or something. i can't do that here, because our kitchen doesn't have a kitchen. we just have the room with a sink =(
I love shrinky dinks way too much. My keychain is made up of a keyring, three keys, and like five shrinky dinks. I'd never though of a uke shaped one, but that would be good... *ponders*
SUPER CUTE! You have just inspired me to be craft this weekend! There use to be Shrinky Dink Kits that included an oven. I got one for my Birthday one year and it has Hello Kitty on it.
YOU, my lady, are the cutest thing since... the beginning of time? I don't know. I get into crafty moods too, but I never keep it up long enough to justify starting an etsy shop.
You could possibly sell them for $5-7.. For shipping you wouldn't be able to charge much, just stick them in a box and send them USPS and they'll get to their destination just fine. :)
I have clear shrinky dink plastic I've used to do people's names, but I'm a calligraphy geek so I need to letter it and surround the name with celtic knotwork...
you could get the shrinky dinks that you can print off on the computer... then draw one, scan it in and mass produce them so that it doesnt take as long and you dont have to worry as mucha bout the costs...
I suppose if they said "nerdfighter" or "DFTBA" I would pay several dollars for them :) Also, how cool would it be to own something that Lauren HAND MADE?
Time really doesn't have anything to do with it. It took me 3 weeks to knit an ipod case and in order to fit into the market for them I had to sell it for 5 dollars. I would look up what other people are selling those for.
but of course, you are a 5ag and people will end up buying it no matter how much you charge...
Just an idea: You can buy Shrinky Dink inkjet paper. You could draw the original, scan it, and then print multiples of the images so that you wouldn't have to do the same thing over and over. It would still be your original drawing, and maybe it would be a way to reduce time and cost.
Plus, you need to have a good amount of money for shipping so you can afford good shipping (I suggest getting small boxes in bulk, like jewelry boxes, they have cheaper shipping rates versus bubble mailers. Weird, huh?). Oh and include delivery confirmation if you can, it makes people feel safer about their purchases.
I totally dig that youtube ukulele.
I MUST read Hunger Games!I can't wait for it to come in!
I totally get into crafty moods. Especially when I am stressed. I usually end up making things out of yarn, usually little stuffed animals. I would link a photo but I don't think that youtube allows that.
I like being able to create things when I'm feeling down.
I get crafty all the time. My fingers start to itch and if I don't make stuff in a matter of minutes, I'm pretty sure I will explode and creativity will splatter all over the walls.
Yay, shrinky dinks are amazing, we got to use those in art class once. And yay for Hunger games too, I just read them both because of all the Youtube recommendations and I love them. BTW, how far are you In Buffy the Vampire Slayer now?
For the glaze, I've never tried it, but I would think clear nail polish would work. I've used that on a lot of things and it works out. Good luck with the shrinky dinks! <3
You can have a rubber stamp made (or make one yourself), so you don't have to draw it every time. Also, if you scratch the surface of the shrinky dink plastic a bit (fine sand paper) and use permanent ink the images stay a lot better. Also, if you have a heat gun, you can melt them into funky shapes. (yes, I am also crafty : )

You can use the hair dryer rather than the oven and if you use permanent markers then you don't need the glaze because it like autoseals lol.

emmfan09 2 years ago
Yeah.. the ppl saying 3 dollars or less sound about right for one charm...
To save time, you could mass produce them by drawing one, scanning it, and then printing it onto the paper.
Repter75 2 years ago
That kinda takes the charm out of the charms though, doesn't it?

Yup. I always get in those moods.

Yay, shrinky dinks are amazing, we got to use those in art class once. And yay for Hunger games too, I just read them both because of all the Youtube recommendations and I love them. BTW, how far are you In Buffy the Vampire Slayer now?

Wow, that is my exact method of procrastination! But for me it's because I sort of hate high school...oh well, this is the last year.
Those are all really cute! I especially like the uketube one.

Procrastination: the sensation that's sweeping the nation and causing the creation of a population suffering from sleep deprivation.
Fun stuff. :D

I love all the shrinky dinks!
