The part from 6:00 however shows the resettled Polish men from Gdynia (Gdingen, 1939-1945 Gotenhafen) harbour in a Nazi-constructed new repatriation village near Lodz, General Government for the Occupied Polish Territories. It also shows Polish men and boys in a Kraków repatriation village. It does not show Soviet POWs.
@hopatease1 German troops in 1941 often removed the red stars from Soviet headgear as trophies. This probably explains the lack of red stars in the footage.
@skoblinI Not as trophies, they discarded them, it was a symbol of communism, and as far as you saying supposed "good treatment" The Germans had so many prisoners which made it nearly impossible to feed their own soldiers.

I'm not sure that the Germans 'weren't prepared', they certainly had cages for the prisoners, I believe it was a deliberate policy to maltreat them. Goering, notoriously, made a joke about it.

Makarov, 1992 year)
@fjodor2008 I don't know how old you are but you must consider the millions in the world that were denied historical information during their educational years before the Iron Curtain collapsed.
Also it may be in the history books now, but from the comments I have seen on YT... it isn't being taught or understood by those under 30 years old.
Even in Deutschland there is a recent rejuvenation and fondness of the "good old days of the DDR". Unbelievable ! Check it out for yourself.

@rampking1 Seems your one of the few people that are able to view history or history in the making with a distance. Not blurred too much by geography, soclal upbringing etc.. Being able to look through the eyes of all sides is what makes a good historian.

This film is right in line with prior Nazi idealogy
For years the German people were taught of the superiority of the German race over the Slavs.
Despite all the propaganda the Wehrmacht soldiers were still shocked how much of the Soviet Union was so very primitive/ backward.
These POWS were poor bastards, abused by their own government, given half the chance would have switched sides, some did.
Germany was totally unprepared to handle millions of POWs, so many perished/ worked to death.

MILLIONS also died in the Soviet Gulags.
Just as dead as those who worked and starved to death in the Nazi prisoner of war work camps.
No difference.
With the possible exception of our friend Chairman Mao of China, Stalin is #1 in the slaughter of his OWN people.
