you can watch it in chronalogical order, it's on the DVD. natalie didn't definitely do this to get him to beat up Dodd, because why would she? she lied about dodd hitting her so what other reason was there? she didn't need help with dodd, she thought Lenny did something to Jimmie because he had his clothes and car, so maybe she wanted him hurt/killed so sent him to Dodd (plus, she might have wanted the money in jimmie's car, not have cared about him)

@GoRightFan Its not about getting an answer.Teddy could have been the real John G and further used Lenny to his benefit, or teddy could have been the cop that helped lenny find the real John G, and then continued to use lenny. It depends on your interpretation of the movie. But its about how everyone takes advantage of everyone even themself. Its about knowing reality without a direct connection to it. Like knowing who you are without a mirror, knowing the world exists when you close your eyes.

@GoRightFan actually, there is an answer, I had to study it for my psicology class (and it kinda ruined the fun of the movie). Lenny killed his wife and since it is such a traumatic thing to keep in his conscience, he puts it in the back of his head, but the memory can't be completely forgotten, so his mind uses Sammy Jenkin's case (which really existed) and suffers from his condition. At the end of the movie you can see how his unconscious part of the brain reveals that

After watching this a second time (didn't stick the first cause there was an overload of mind fuck) I realised natalie kind of has her reasons for being a little grumpy. After all lenny did kill jimmy her boyfriend, shows up in his suit and car.

actually.. she was using him to get dodd's ass beat. not necessarily a bad character, she needed help and knew how to manipulate leonard. getting him to hit her and telling him it was dodd. evil genius.

even though it is obvious that teddy was following lenny to get the money I believe that he actually felt sorry for what he did and wanted to make up for it. in the scene where dodd is captured. teddy thinks that dodd is a john g and says that he will not help lenny kill him. there are other scenes like this in the film where teddy really seems to give good advice to lenny.

it shows flash backs of him giving her the shots. my theory is leonard's subconscious created sammy, because leonards condtion may have caused him not to have memories but his subconscious is still active and blocks out any thought of leonard being the possible killer, therefore leonard uses sammy as an alter ego to cover up what he did even though he's not aware of it and to be constantly looking for a murder, becuase the last thing his conscious mind saw was his wife dead/dying

@BLueEyeButterfly I loved the way towards the beginning of the movie you are thinking that Natalie is a good friend and Teddy is a sleezy murderer, but at the end of the movie/beginning of the story you find out that Teddy is a loyal friend and in this scene you find Natalie is just using him, she is the bad one. Great movie.

@procritic09 Actually teddy wasn't all that great either he was watching lenny kill and was taking in money and never really tried to stop him. the reason that he kept telling him to leave town during the movie was so that he could start the cycle again in another town thats why in the end of the movie (middle of the story) lenny writes don't believe his lies as teddy's description and put his license plate number as one of the facts so that he could kill teddy for messing with him.
