Proper rotary technique when using Meguiars #205

after trying this 105/205 combo i was stumpted on the 205 step, i kept getting holograms with a white pad and read that peopel are using PC's to finish them off

I never had that issue with the menzerna combo, but i figured there was a way to get it down with a rotary, so do you break down at 1200rps with white and then switch ti a finish pad that is primed or just a regular pad to jewel it on softer paints.

@CERnoriVELO If the paint is really soft, switch to 3M Ultrafina and the blue waffle Ultrafina pad to finish out. 1000 rpms to spread for a couple passes, then increase to 1800 rpms and use enough pressure to lightly compress the pad for 2-3 slow passes, then less pressure and 1000 rpms for a couple passes to finish out. Works great at removing LIGHT holograms. You can't go from a compound and wool to Ultrafina, but polish and foam polishing pad, yes.

also clay bar any area that you going to buff or else your just gonna swirl dirt in the paint leading to spider webs and holograms. It helps to tape off black plastic that you dont want stained with compound.for getting hard to reach areas to buff use the 3m headlight restore kit. It comes with a 3 inch buffing pad, put it on your drill and use your normal compound and polish with it. Works great to get those small areas that a rotary cant get.

This is a good video. Ive been buffing for a couple years now and I am just getting the perfect master results I am looking for. It takes time to perfect this as it is an art to master. I have recently switched to meguiars after using 3m perfect it and finesse it. And I couldnt be more pleased. If you keep getting holograms then switch to a really soft pad and lighten up the pressure and make nice slow even passes It also helps to have a sun gun If you cant afford one ill showu how to make1

if you clean the paint with alcohol, is the holograms still gone? i have a lot of problem with removing holograms. It looks fine until i clean the paint with alcohol

@DannePlutt Bentley paint is pretty hard, #205 will usually finish out hologram free but I still use Ultrafina to finish out. This video was more to show just the proper way to use a rotary than to show all the steps needed to polish without leaving holograms.

Didn;t want to use wool while popping my rotary cherry so went with foam. To beginners, dont be afraid , and dont try to draw a bead your first time, that was a mess LMAO, put some on the pad evenly and start as low as your buffer lets you, it will be fine.

This video rocks.  I used a rotary for this first time today , and this video helped immensely. There is no shortage of retards who don't know what they are talking about when it comes to ratary buffers, I am hapy to say you are not one of them. I could read the small print on a Dr. Pepper can when I was done. I was using a Makita 9227 and started with Meguiars #105 and an 8007 foam pad, then followed with # 205, and then Meg Ultimate paste wax..

It looks like you were using a really light coat. I usually use a lot more polish and it dries very quickly (20 seconds?). Are you letting it dry?

@cyphear02 I just watched your other DA video (KB method) and you can see the polish more like I use it there. However, you again polished it for ~2 minutes, where as I did it much shorter. I will definitely have to try your technique. Thanks for sharing the videos. So is it okay if it starts to dry?

@cyphear02 Once the pad is primed, you don't need a lot of polish. You will know if it is drying out because you will get pad hop.

What's with that green MF your rubbing over the paint at the end? Thought you weren't supposed to rub towels dry over the paint or it could scratch it?

Works very well with a polishing pad. Obviously, since it isn't a compound it won't remove deep defects but if you run it about 1200-1500 rpm using moderate pressure, you can remove lighter defects and by easing up the pressure and finishing out at 1000 rpms, you won't have any rotary holograms unless the paint is really soft-then either switch to a finishing pad or use 3M's Ultrafina to finish out.

yah alot of things get put into play when polishing. agressiveness of pad, polish? pressure on the pad/buffer, arm speed etc

Again, very good demonstration, buddy. I haven't tried M205 on the Meguiar's polishing pad on a rotary yet. I have only used it with a finishing pad. Does using a polishing pad give it good correcting power over moderate swirls?
