only thing i don't like is that recurve, everything's bad ass about it and the coolness factor is sky high... only thing im worried bout is it's utilitarian abilities.. hmm
Hey Man nice review, they look of impecable quality and durabitiy, id love to get one some day but for now i have only normal kershaws haha. in your other video you said you resharpened it, how did that work out for you? in my experience with harder steels and bizzare blade shapes it is hard to get a edge back on it..
Have you tried resharpening with that blade shape? Just curious since I'm used to very traditional blade designs like straight tanto types and drop points.
I have the kershaw BLKST---Its basicly a black blur with a black 14C tanto blade with speedsafe of course...well--the stinkin spring just broke and now theres no spring assist!! I sent it back to kershaw...I could NOT beleive my Kershaw broke in less than a year!
@Jeenyus1983 You must have flicked that thing a million times, lol. Interesting thing about springs is that they won't lose their resiliency wether compressed or open. Only when they are repeatedly used will they break down. Kershaw should hook you up with spares regardless.
i got one it great, nice knife good grip and shape, but it came out of the box uit blund, not even scharp :S i wilsharpen it meself but a knife this price i like it to be razor scharp out of the box... but its a realy fast folder and great desing and grip
Nice review, i wish they would have the 0400 in just a normal kershaw version like they did with the zero tolerance tallon was then made into a normal kershaw talon
A lanyard allows you to draw the knife faster and creates a diversion hanging if/when you go into a knife fight. It also looks very cool if that kind of thing matters to you (it does to me). You want to get paracord only though; they are super-high quality and have a secondary purpose of providing cordage if needed in an emergency by being unraveled.
i think they have the spacer of g10 on the back of the leek to make it more comfertable to hold becausae if you have a knife that doesnt have that it sort of hurts your hand due to the metal cutting you
They are very tough, but watch the black coating while you are sharpening. It is rather easy to put marks in it - not that it really matters, but aesthetic appeal is always important to me!
@dgl1962 Tough as nails is right. Mine has some signs of EDC, but it is holding up superbly. I love my knife and I will never part with it. My next knife will be a Wilson Tactical RRF, but with a $350-400 pricetag - it's quite the upgrade.
If you want an awesome mid to high quality knife (mid in comparison to a Wilson Tactical RRF) this is the one you want. YOU WILL LOVE IT
G10 is not as flexible as FRN. Knives with G10 handles (spyderco military for an example) are just doing fine without steel liners. Great review by the way.
cougarridgeknifeco@, Your info about making cpm steels is interesting but please try to communicate in english so people will understand you. Otherwise why should people care what nutnfancy hates? Is the world spinning around him?
@hantasanta: sorry i was only stating nutn for an example but really i am speaking about most of the ones who take the time to inform through youtube. ( not me) and they r always telling us to not listen to the "armchair ellietest" thats all i ment. he(nutn) was the first and most prelific to come to mind. and also sorry if my description of cpm steel was hard to understand but the steel itself is really complex and i wont for a second try and say i really understand it. thats all i know bout it
Pretty sure you're trolling this gentleman's comment section more than I am but that's only from counting the amount of senseless ranting that you have done.
@Reaper87xx: u say im "trolling this gentleman's comment section" when all i said originally was my feelings on the knife. and me sayin its a hard knife to sharpen in ur opinion ment i didnt know what i was talkin about cuz "that type of steel is not for beginners" when i was speakin of the "hard to sharpen blade shape" not the steel. and i do not appreciate someone i dont know jumpin down my throat about my personal opinion. and i also liked the review.. now this is done with. sorry to affend u
Reaper87xx : when I said "the steel is great but blade not so." I was not speaking of the steel itself. s30v actually is probably my fav steel out there. right along with s3v and bg42. There all great I was only talkin about the stupid blade shape mostly. I never said that i was un happy that it was hard to sharpen i was only stating it in my facts about the blade itself. I did not mean to offend u with my feelings about the blade.
my comment seems rather rash huh.. and how is that? I was only giving advice to ones that dont know. not everyone out there knows alot about steels so i was only stating a comment. If it does not pertain to u and u dont need the advice than keep ur business out of it. I know exactly what the zt line is all bout u dont need to tell me. I`ve owned hundreds of them. I sell them.Actually Steve Michaels and I are pretty close so dont tell me what u think i need to know about zt`s.
One more thing to yesmaamiagree: all the cpm part means is Crucible Particle Metallurgy. Thats the very complex way that they make that steel. it is a partical steel that after turning multant they shoot nitrogen in and flash freez it at what i here over a million degrees per second and turns it to basically dust "partical steel" and then somwhere down the line is compressed with thousands of tons into steel. I know im missing lots of steps. I do not know too much about the process of steel.
Yesmaamiagree. just to add to what your trying to say. yes s90v is an even more brittle steel. It was supposed to be a better steel originally but was not so. some will still argue that it is and it is all just prefferanc really. but s30v steel just so you know is actually a vary TOUGH steel. brittle and tough are two differant things. kershaw actually put the blade in a vice and it took 4750lbs of force to get it to budge. Thats tough steel to me. and it will hold an edge for "ever"
pwnage knife and hey hey about the steel i was searching and couldn't find the answer... is cpm s30v and s30v the same metal... i bought the zero tolerance 0301.... just trying to learn about the metal...
CMPS30v is the same as S30v. S90v is more brittle and would be a lot less able to take abuse, tortion and other stress. More brittle steel is prone to chipping and snapping. S30v is already very brittle, and while it holds an edge very well it's not a tough steel and will snap and chip under real hard use.
i have several of every z.t. out there and this one just so happens to be my least fav. ok handle (although i would like g-10 better) but the blade shape is not my style. the steel is great but blade not so. tip chips easy, tough to sharpen, tough to do actual cutting w/, but love most of the z.t. line
Reaper87xx is a douche. he wants to sit behind his computer and tell people they dont know things when he dont even know. dont ever call somone out on the way they feel if there only tryin to help give advice. he`s a coward and a moron. U think im full of it call steve Michaels that runs ZT if u even know who that is and just mention my business name and he`ll be the first to tell u i`ve owned hundreds in just the past couple months. your exactly what nutnfancy hates. armchair ellietest
Tough to sharpen? No kidding, it's S30V steel. It's not an entry or intermediate level steel and takes a lot of patience and detailing to sharpen. You want easy steel to sharpen? Don't get ZT knives because they're all S30V and 154CM. They're very purpose driven materials that require skill to use. For "owning several of every ZT knife," your comment seems to be rather rash...
I have one of these that I have used quite a lot. I am not a huge fan of the blade shape but it is allright. The stainless steel liner that was mentioned is paper thin and is there only to protect the torsion bar. This knife takes all of its strength from the aluminum handles. I take my speed safe knives apart every 3-6 months and put some Tuf-Glide, my knife oil of choice, in to keep the Speed Safe working well. I oiled mine the other day and I noticed an improvement in opening speed.

the middle piece is a plastic insert that holds the two sides of the handle together. it also serves as the other anchor point for the torision bar.
