This is so wrong! To use the lingo of the man in the video (this is for morons). First have a basic understanding of windows - hitting the control - alt - delete buttons at the same time reboots your computer. He sits there on his dumb butt tapping away and he first gets lucky and you see it reboot. The next time he misses the reboot and he thinks he has found some solution. What a load of fat excrement!
It's wrong to mislead people like this - and then the guy is rude to boot.
@cazooooooo The hair dryer trick works if yours doesn't... These computers have faulty graphics cards that overheat and fail... You need to heat the card back up again. Point the hair dryer into the cooling fan of the graphics card (right rear, I believe) for about 2 minutes and try to reboot. It can't hurt.
@cazooooooo You're a moron. I took off a little plate in the bottom of the computer, got 2 quarters, put the on the chip from the back then heated them up with the hair dryer. No disassemble and it took about 5 min. Idk if this causes damage or anything, but it's still working.
@plankboi Sorry to hear my hair dryer trick didn't work for you... The only other alternative I found was to remove the entire motherboard and bake it in an oven (no shit... there's a video on hear that shows you how to do it.). I don't recommend this course of action!
Is it fixed after it starts like this or will it give you the same problem ever time you turn it off? Also the black screen issue, after a hour or two of use the computer will for into that problemed mode. Does this so called fix if your eliminate that from happening? All these favorable feedback it would have me think it is a true fix. Are these laptops all working fine from now in or just that one start up and for just s couple hours?
My problem was not the blank screen. My laptop displayed 6 mini-screens! I was about to disassemble my laptop (and I would have probably killed it in the process). But luckily I stumbled upon your video, and by some miracle it actually worked! Curse HP, but thank YOU mr cazooooooo!!!
YOU ARE AMAZING.... IT DIDN'T WORK THE FIRST FEW TIMES BUT IT FINALLY DID... SO OTHERS... BE PATIENT... WALK AWAY AND TRY AGAIN..... THANKS!!! YOU ARE THE GREATEST!!!!! SINCERELY!!!!!
Thank you so much for your video.... It actually worked, I was getting ready to take it into be repaired when I happened to find your video on YouTube.
im not saying this is a bad video cause most people semm to have tried it and have sucess but some will have a much more complicated problem then just the black screen which will require the heat gun method to re sit not reset but re sit the gpu card lower to the board most gpu's in the dv series are really shitty which causes major problem like overheating causing components in the laptop to fail and can even burn out your gpu and cpu chip
I DID IT !!!! I filmed the whole stuff, 20 minutes, and will upload it to youtube. This solution did not work for me, but I was busy and tried out all combinations... F10 button did it...
Thnx for giving me hope again ;), for now, I backed up all my files immediately ;) #36,8 GB haha !!
Got this item about a few months ago as well, and then i got it starting up again by the methode of keeping the on/off button in for more than a minute. This time, THAT doesn't seem to work, so I started your solution. I must say, instead of starting over again and again, it's now still on, but thinking very hard of continuing ;)!
I am very patient, so waiting now what is going to be shown to me, in about a day or so ;) !
So still on an d maybe running again since 6 monts ago *fingers crossed*
My DV6 did the black screen of death thing, Once!
So, I went for the Control Alt Delete buttons and restarted it.
Then, I went looking for problematic software conflicts, especially those having anything to do with the display; the screensaver; desktop picture themes; and others that may be updating automatically. Changed those settings to remind or manual.
The issue is due to poor design: poor thermal conduction. Sadly laptops are no longer designed to last beyond the warranty. They have no solution but to replace the motherboard, which again, is primary issue.
@getenlightened If this does not work, try using a hairdryer to heat up the graphics chip. Just point it into the GPU fan located at the back of the laptop on the left side for about a minute and then boot-up. Worked for me the first time and you don't need to take the computer apart.
@Flintanis1 it works because he's restarting his computer so fast that his fan does not get to run.During that time he repeatedly kept pressing atl-ctrl-del his processor and graphics card were heating to the normal functioning temp. to turn on and finally the fan stabilize the heating conditions(in which its suppose to but not that good for air flow based on 6000/9000 models). Lack of air brings on overheating of graphics card and most severe cases motherboard burn out.
I can't belive! It works. Thank You. I have heating the video chip 30 times and every time the problem comes back. Without disassembling my laptop anymore. THANKS,hope this will work every time.
really! thats a shame ur memory is all used up u dumb d1ck! lol hammer works alot better just beat your head all over with a hammer then your screen will start working. yeah always starts with cartoon birds and stars. ur a dumb a5s!!
omg i still cant believe it worked. i was like "yeah right" but tried it anyways. i have a pavilion dv6, had the same problem and this solved it. i havent restarted the computer since but yeah, it did start up and even resumed my windows session.
@xcookiemonsterstudio This will not fix your laptop, your experince an overheat of the motherboard/videocard. You need to disasemble your computer and buy a COMPATIBLE motherboard and replace it. This method works as of right now im using a Dv9074cl and I replaced the motherboard and it works.
This is a really shortsighted solution. The fact that doing a "CTRL-ALT-DEL" too fast gets you back to a black screen is only a band-aid at best. If this works for you, than something is loose inside the system. I had one Dv9000 where the video cable from the LCD got detached from the motherboard. In the computer industry, if hardware acts random (like this notebook did), it is likely a hardware issue that will come back, if left untreated.

With that said, you can press any keys, it doesn't matter. But it's temporary!!!!!!! REFLOWING the GPU is the only true fix for this common problem.

@cazooooooo thats awesome, when i first bought my dv2000 brand new 2 years ago, it idle around 80C, i took it apart about 2 weeks later and put a 1.1 mm copper shim which weighed about 3 lbs, between the heatsink and graphics card, and th idle temp went from 80C idle to 39C, and in full load, it goes to 55C and thats it, with or without the ac plugged in, and even till today I had no problems at all.
