Your can buy the Toners other places. All Printer Manufacturers do that. IT is cheaper to buy a new printer than to get it fix. But Amazon and many other companies has a cheaper cost in the cost and you should only replace the Drum the indicator light tells you which is about 25K-30K pages
Brother under-sells their printers to get them into your hands, then makes up the money by selling toner. All companies now are doing this. However, the firmware is BADLY ENGINEERED to just expire your toner cartridge in the middle of a print job, saying you have no toner left, when there is still lots of toner. And it is hard to over-ride... so you can't just print that last page and finish up that over-due report. You are held hostage. Other printers let you keep going at least.
Since I got a Brother MFC 210c 4 years ago I only switched my ink cartridge 8 times and I print alot and I had an HP and the cartridge was so small I had to change it as much as 2x times of the Brother and now I have a Brother MFC 495CW and I really like it.
How come the HP toner is only changed once when the Cyan, Magenta and Yellow toners have a yield of 4,000 and the Black toner has a yield of 6,000??? And, of course, based on 5% coverage. Please, someone show me a color page with 5% coverage.

I'll take the path of not buying a printer from a company that thinks we're all idiots. No HP for me. Stick that in the minutes of your next meeting.
