@Popteart the phone lines run on electricity in georgia and indiana and Massachusetts if your light goes off so does the electrical signal. I cant account for any other state but in these 3 they do

@amalmumaten Regular land lines don't need electricity from the power company to work. They use a very small amount of power that comes directly from the phone company lines. This only applies to wall and desk phones, though. Cordless land line phones do not work without electricity because the bases are plugged into an outlet, and they need electricity to power the antennae.
When we have a blackout or something, I always do the same thing Jackie does, but only with the light switches. You grow so accustomed to to power and you take it for granted.
I do agree that the show is lacking without Becky (Lecy Goranson) and her replacement was absolutely uncomparable. I would've rather gone without having a replacement for Lecy. And I feel that Darlene's character was just as perfect as Lecy's. I felt that she fit right in because she had her mom's wits and her dad's interests (sports, etc.).

Thanks for the tip about the non cordless phones. I have an old fashioned trimline phone in my kitchen - I just need to run the wire from the livingroom to the kitchen to hook it up. I also have those battery operated light switches at CVS all around my apartment in case I do get the lights shut off again. The only thing I couldn't use was the washer/dryer. And, tv is just reruns anyway. Sometimes it's nice to have the tv off once in a while.
I think this is where she started having work done. She should have stopped here. She doesnt look so good after this and the show kinda went down. its was still pretty good until season 9. I still love the show it just seemed like she wasnt happy anymore and it reflects in the show
