I am an identical win. The gene came from my maternal grandfather but he wasn't a twin - his older sisters were! To date none of their descendants have had twins.

@mknothe in my family we have 6 sets of twin , boy and girl each time and my mom is a twin and my paternal grand dad has a twin sister.I didn't take long until I realised there was a lot of telepathy work going on between the twins.I developed a unique skill to read them out. But I still felt a left out , I wish I had own fraternal twin.

@cannoir Wow! 6 sets of twins! You may not have a twin but it's very likely your kids or grandkids will be twins :)

@mknothe Identical twins are not genetic. They basically just sponataneously happen. Fraternal twins can be genetic.

@momcubed76 Fraternal twins/multiples (that is two or more seperate eggs released and fertilized) are spontaneous because they are caused by hormone levels. Identical twins have the gene that causes the fertilized egg to split. I am sure that there are genetic and spontaneous cases in both though i.e. woman inherits a gene that causes hormone levels to release multiple eggs, and a gene mutates to cause an embryo to split...

When I went to Mexico, I met 2 sisters that looked exactly like the other, just one was black and the other white. I swear it was amazing. It was like looking at a mirror, but their skin color was just different. They are so cute.

my moms a twin , our older brothers are twins plus our cousins are twins

so iguesse you could say it runs in the family :)
