  • Not all caps will show signs of being bad, many simply dry up. The capxon caps are crap from the get go, so if anyone has them, REPLACE asap. Panasonic and many other brands are a big improvement over these. Get low ESR caps, make sure the uF are the same as some switching supplies will not like it one bit if you stray from the printed uF rating and never ignore the little electrolytic capacitors. Good job on the repair and glad you didn't get more Capxon caps, ugg!

  • Damn, someone help me. I put my pixels up to full on my xp it was 1600x 1200x. Now it gives me and error saying MODE NOT SUPPORTED

  • nice video, i just wnated to add that when you replace caps always replace with higher Voltage than the bulged ones exemple if your bulged caps is are 10V 1000Uf replace it with a 15 or 25V and same Uf if you want to avoid having the same problem in the futur, i have repaired hundreds of monitors and never had the re-repair them again. the big cap does not need to be changer it looks ok. sometimes its is the inverter that is the problem, it is rare when the graphic card fails.

  • A good place to get capacitors is The Cap King.

  • nice!!!!! :)

  • hey pls help me i have a samsung 940 bf and the capacitors are all good but if i turn the monitor on it does a "BIP" sound and the image has 10 % brigthnes how can i fix my monitor there is no light on the image ( sry for my bad english) HELP PLS

  • @TheSlipknotist Sorry, I'm not sure what the problem is. I mainly work on vintage electronics. Maybe you could search the internet for your specific model number and find some help ?

  • @TheSlipknotist I also have problem with Samsung 940, when i turn on he stay on for few second and than he turn blanck. The capacitors are all good. If I know something I pass the info. Please keep me in mind if you find something.

  • @moonwine if your monitor turn on for 2 to 5 sec and turns off, and you got no bulged caps, then you need to check you LCD inverters, they probabaly gone bad, interters are those blocks next to where the LCD backlight plugs are. when the inverters don't hold the charge from the power supply, the monitor goes black bacause no light gets to the screen.

  • @certified30 Thank you.

  • i have a dual lcd monitors samsung 2233bw i have a nvidia card they both worked fines for about 8 months and now one doesn't work , the one that doesnt work is just black and the blue light at the bottom blinking all the time the other one work just fine what do you think is the problem the capacitors?

  • @7655walter Most likely. I've also had a cap blow out on a video card. It made a heck of a loud pop and the computer screen freaked out. I shut it down, replaced the blown cap and it's been fine for a couple years now :)

  • @bandersentv what you mean with is it seious or something simple? i wanna take to the repair shop but dont know how much they will charge me? i pID LIKE 150 FOR ONE MONITOR YOU THINK WILL BE WORTH FIXING IT? OR ? how you wok one before ? you have a video? let me know thanks

  • @7655walter This is the only video I have on repairing any computer stuff. The few times I've replaced capacitors, it was obvious which ones were bad because they were bulging and leaking.

Check out the Maxxarcade youtube channel. He has a bunch of videos on repairing computers and knows way more than me.

  • Bob, you just saved yourself a lot of bucks!! I'm looking forward to seeing you fix your other stuff. If everybody knew how to do what you do, the electronics stores would be going out of business!!

  • @HardKnocks60 Thanks, I do what I can :-)

  • Arright! Great to see it's working again.

  • May I suggest that it is not a bad idea to get higher voltage capacitors than the originals, even if they cost a little more. These will run cooler and last much longer than the stock voltage caps. This will help delay the NEXT repair! Great video, as always!

  • @GeoN0JRJ Thanks. I normally do, but in this case they were a bit larger and I was concerned they wouldn't fit.

  • @bandersentv I have to agree that larger caps in voltage is OK for most repairs, but not for all. I had a 27" Magnavox TV that the picture was squashed into the center. I replaced the cap with a bigger one and the TV would shut down. Found the right cap and the TV worked well. So its a little trial and error. Glad to see you fixing some modern electronics, but never grow tires of seeing vintage repairs. Keep up the good work!!!!!

  • @GeoN0JRJ no need for that. Samsung (and lots of other manufacturers) just keep using caps from known bad manufacturers like CapXon, Teapo/Yageo, Elite, etc. ..

once replaced with good caps (rubycon, nichicon, nippon chemicon, matsushita/panasonic, ...) they should outlast the "rest" of the monitor..

i use Nichicon PW series for switchmode PSUs most of the time. comparing the ESR from the datasheets is also a good idea before replacing them..

  • I have a BenQ LCD still sitting around here. Bought used; got about 1.5 years out of it; just shut down one day. When I turn it on, it just about shows it's "Energy Star" splash screen & then turns right back off. Think it might be the same problem (caps), but can't figure out, for the life of me, how to get it apart!

  • @Madness832 I had a hard time getting these apart too. I was able to slip an old credit card into the seam between the two half and work it back and forth. Eventually, it started opening up.

  • I have found a plastic putty knife works pretty well too.

  • Was that Audio Karma on the last test?

  • @GrandCaravanSE Close - it's the sister site Videokarma. VK split off from AK about a year ago is geared more toward vintage TVs and radios.

  • @bandersentv Nice, I love that site. I will have to check VK sometime. but for now I already have 5 different projects going. I don't want to get anymore ideas.

  • Awesome! Those are some monitors that are definitely worth repairing :-)

For that network drive, check the caps as usual, and test/repair the hard drive with HDAT2. Should be able to get it going no problem.

  • @Maxxarcade I messed up in the video - it's actually a WD netcenter. I'm still using the drive that came with it and it won't even mount properly :( I think after checking the caps, I'll pop in a spare good drive just to make sure the controller is working properly.
