  • Por fin di con esta canción.

  • June, 1980 this song reminds me of Lisa Tulamello a "girl" I had a crush on, dated a couple of times, and then got dumped. This was one of her favorite songs. Lisa, whereever you are I hope you had a very rotten life!!!

  • This song ROCKS! I listen to this stuff all the time on my ipod and NEVER get tired of it. This music LASTS! Totally reminds me of my great childhood.

  • lol i remember MacGruber playing this song in his miada

  • He came from somewhere back in her long ago

  • LA VERSION EN ESPAÑOL LA ESCUCHE POR EL AÑO 1981 1982 APROXIMADAMENTE, SI ALGUIEN SABE COMO SE LLAMA Y QUIEN LA INTERPRETA LE AGRADECERIA MUCHO

  • Steal away? As in.... steal Michael McDonald's piano groove away? Hmmmm. Yep.

  • @ShakerCuda71 Many artists jumped on this groove back then. Even the Doobies tried to capture lightning in a bottle a second time.

Gracias

  • Who would dislike this song .. need you head checked ... great tune :) Sooo many awesome memories :)

  • OH Snap ! I was to young to care who sang this at that time And I always thought it was Christopher Cross..Maybe they are Brothers eh ?

  • the good times for sure

  • This song brings back instant memories of the Axle Roller Rink, Norridge, IL, circa 1980. It was one of the songs that was usually one of the first ones played during Saturday night disco skates there, right after the traditional opening song Souvenir. Spent some great times at the Axle on Saturday nights, with a late night snack at Superdawg usually following. Whatever happened to the Axle after it closed? I left Chicago in the early 90s and have always wondered what becames of the property.

  • Is this a "What a Fool Believes" tribute or what????

  • Comment removed

  • @limagroup Who cares? It's a great song and Michael I'm sure likes it, as well. I bet he would play it at his parties...no?

  • Is that Michael McDonald on Background Vocals?

  • @HerbTBS ..NAH,BUT IT IS SAID HE WAS INSPIRED BY WHAT A FOOL BELIEVES..

  • i think this song came out in 1980, maybe even 79. it was borderline

  • A BIG HIT OF 80'S AND I ENJOYED SO MANY TIMES IN MY YOUTH ! HOW IS GOOD TO CAN HEAR IT AGAIN ! - SANTOS - SP - BRAZIL - ( 13 JAN 2012 )

  • ssoooo love this song... omg, great music.

  • macgruber

  • @uzithrasha hell yeah

  • God I loved her ass! This song didnt help..

  • ....Couple Skate ........YES!!!!

  • its a classic song from 80s !! thanks for postin !!

  • This guy was always a Kenny Loggins hack,I grew up in the 70's and there was really good music but not on pop radio,on rock radio there was Led Zepplin,Foreigner,Journey,Yes,King Crimson,Rainbow,Deep Purple,Cheap Trick etc.etc. but this song was like all those other speak easy wine glass songs by this guy and Eric Carmen,Air Supply and Commodores/Lionel Richie etc, etc.

  • @EBBadd1 Why? Just because he had a beard?

  • That's amazing. I didn't see his lips move once.

  • good song, takes me back, to the roller rink

  • I would sing to this all the time in my car. Robbie Dupree sounds better but...I felt better after belting it out.

  • Those days went by Way too fast! 2012 coming up, Wow! Last year of the world?, we'll see...

  • @001GenLee We shouldn't be in fear of something from without, we should fear it from within. Can anyone really believe what has happened in just the last few days. Are we really going to let this happen to us? I keep expecting to wake up....but I'm already awake. I'm blown away!

  • Is that Michael McDonald behind in the hook?

  • @ASacredSpirit this tune does sound Doobie Brotheresq

  • This is just a great track.I love it.

  • ah yes the 80's. Classic song from that decade!

  • good song

  • The rhythm of this song is so similar to "What a Fool Believes" by the Doobie Brothers. When I first head it I mistook it for that song.

  • @jityr2 Think so too

  • I remember this one! Haven't heard it in a LONG time! Blast from the past! hehe

  • isn't it funny that u can go for years and years and not hear a song..But soon as it come on somewhere u can sing it word for word..Wow forgot all about this song..now I'm sitting here singing it while typing

  • @Midnightryder7 This is why music is used in advertising. Stop to think about some old products and you will remember all the words to the jingle.

  • @Midnightryder7 yea isn't that funny remembering all the words after not hearing it for years and years

  • @Midnightryder7 Not only remember the words and sing it - for me it does that plus takes me back in time - I think of things I hadn't in years - where I was what I was doing when this song was popular.

  • @Midnightryder7 so true and it amazes me how a song can bring back thoughts you havent had in a long time. Love this.....J

  • @willpatmac hahaha - that is so true

  • @willpatmac OMG i'm on the floor laughing ... good one .

either that or crazy train is coming up . still got my quads : )

  • @willpatmac LOL! Memories...

  • @willpatmac You hit the nail on the head!!!!! That's exactly what this song reminds me of LOL.

  • the master barry white beats the crap out of rap

  • this song beats most rap and lady gag crap/ actually rap is kinda boring

  • Where's the live performance of this tune? Robbie, you should have known better than that! Your career would have lasted longer.

  • @kja427 There was one where he performed on American Bandstand on abc but he was interrupted by the band Public Image Limited, can't find the video though...

  • Feels like I just walked into a CVS :)

  • @Gormaoul dam it does.....lol

  • @Gormaoul

    lol...so true!

  • Gotta love that electric sitar intro. This song is a great classic MOR rocker. ;-)

  • I love it when kids appreciate songs that are before their time. Songs from the '70s and '80s are more meaningful. Check out Paul Davis' and Kenny Nolan's songs.. now that's what you call "CLASSIC ARTISTS". Check them out when U get a chance (Cool Night, Love's Grown Deep, I Go Crazy, I Like Dreamin', Sweet Life).

  • Quality Tune !!!!

  • Quality music !!!!!

  • so cool

  • im 39 and this style of music and country western are what i was hearing as a kid...ahhhh the memorys.

  • im 40 and to be honest theres a lot of bashing mostly on my part but every now and again your generation shines a glimmer of light. my taste in music goes back to the 50's. good music will never die..lately ive been rokin out to foster the people. may it be a light house to bring our generations together.

  • it does have a bi of resemblance to the doobies song. and did you know that the doobies' Michael MacDonald sing backing vocals on this?

  • this song sounds like the cousin of the doobie brothers "what a fool believes". they are so similar! love em both!

  • This song is bad ass !!!

  • omg i use to skate to this song

  • Why can't we steal away ? Nice song....brings back memories...-:)

  • todays music just dont have any thing that these songs have, its called a soul, most of the stuff i hear is real crap, then again thier are a few songs which do , but whats sad is the music is not as good anymore

  • Lady Gaga is a transvestite whore and a disintegrative icon element that corrupts, while being pathetically a copy-cat who does a shitty job at it. Leave the bitch out of any discussion referring to real music or vocal artists who had real talent. Robby DuPree was the source of umpteen many 'couples skates' and prom dance slow dancing. He was the source of "our song" by couples in love. There is a Doobie Brothers sound and an easy flow of his style that makes him a favourite for lovers.

  • Why don't we steal from Michael McDonald and the Doobie Brothers?

  • @scribbled309 What are you talking about? Mike sings backup on this song. Can't you hear him?

  • @bucky468 It certainly sounds like him, but there's no evidence it is. He's not on any of the personnel listings. Even if it is, the keyboard riff is a blatant rip-off of "What a Fool Believes." McDonald was the hottest thing on the market at that time, I can understand the urge to imitate him. But this was particularly shameless. And where did the guy's career go after this? Nowhere. Time sorts out real talent from poseur talent and this guy is 100% poseur.

  • @scribbled309 He still plays the occasional county fairs & such. He still performs. Dupree was on the Warner label just like MM & the Doobs so it wouldn't surprise me if Mike lent a hand on his albums. MM was all over other artists's albums throughout the late 70's/early 80's so it doesn't shock me any.

Would you rather listen to Lady Gaga or Katy Perry? Talk about real talent vs poseur talent.

  • @bucky468 Actually I would prefer Katy Perry, who has great pop sense. And I think Lady Gaga has talent as well--but she also has zero taste and less class. I appreciate your point of view, and also thank you for not turning this into one of those ugly exchanges one sees too much on You Tube. We'll just agree to disagree on this one. Take care.

  • I am a white male, blah, blah blah. Who cares about your history? It's just a song!

  • I remember all these tunes, just classic stuff man, classic. Y'herd?

  • @MrMattieboy123 I agree!

  • Captured!!

  • Okay, Tampa Fl, the Imperial Room Lounge, Kat Rose, God what a beautiful woman I had the pleasue of for several months. Beautiful green eyes that would melt your soul. Luscious full lipps that were made for kissing. A heart that was made for caring and loving. Kat, I still remember.

  • I am just a HIPPIE

  • Whatever SG, stick your money up your bleeding what not.

  • I may HAVE to steal. i am soooooo broke thanks to my evil mother.

  • macgruber can't be wrong

  • Good music Never Ever ........goes out of style!

  • As a 47 yr old colored man, this is one good soft jam!

  • @MrSteelghost

As a 68 year old man, I too like this.

  • A guilty pleasure - just ear candy - I still have this 45 and remember first playing it with cans on.

  • @mdmphd I definitely dig this song on my headphones too...

  • @mdmphd I definitely dig this song on my headphones too...great song and a solid recording when they knew how to record music.

  • Trivia: Could this have been the last major pop hit to feature the sitar (or fake sitar, as I never could really distinguish them)?

  • @ptownfreddy

Close, but not quite- Lenny Kravitz dug it back out in '91 for "It Ain't Over 'Til It's Over."

  • Gran recuerdo!!!!

  • Robby and me were walking down broadway in Manhatten, upper west side he said he just came from L.A. and sung this song, when we here it coming

from a Store......... dennis neilan ,, Memories make my life great dennis neilan Nam Combat Vet who just beat cancer from Agent

    Orange.. Great song

  • this song was the best for me! And Robbie waas cute enough that you'd want to steal away :_)

  • IM A PUERTO RICAN HIP HOP HEAD IM 37 AND I LOVE THIS SONG , I UESDE TO HEAR ON THR RADIO IN THE EARLY 80s WHEN I WAS LIKE 8 OR 9 AND ITS GOT SOUL .....PEACE .

  • i think this music just makes everyone reminisce the old days. Awesome song!

  • im only 16 years old but love this music more than todays music! this kind of music has real meanings instead of todays music they call r&b, hip hop ect all of which is about sex and drugs :/ i mostly listen to country but thats about it... to be honest im really embarrassed of my generation i wish i could have grown up in the 70s or 80s i would have rocked it! :)

  • @princessk30 You hit the nail on the head with that comment. Music is a form of expression regardless of the genre. Compare the messages of the music from the past with what is being conveyed today. Sadly the messages of today are a lot more materialistic and self indulged than they were before. The only thing a person can do is really just tune out what they don't like and listen to what that they do. Keep on rockin on.

  • @princessk30 I'm glad you appreciate this kind of music. I'm 30 years old and listened to this kind of music VERY early in my life. Justin Bieber cannot compare to some of the great acts of the day like Todd Rundgren, K. C. and the Sunshine Band, Olivia Newton-John, and others. Robbie Dupree is just one example of a great artist of a genre that seems to be long forgotten.

  • @princessk30 better to have been born in the 60's so you could be older during the 70's era ;)

  • @princessk30 I agree. I wish you could've been there too (Born in 70). Thank God for You Tube and you can experience it.

  • @princessk30 For 16yrs. old you are a smart cookie with an open mind, who one day will become very accomplished in no matter what.

  • I know it sounds cliche, but they really don't make music this good anymore. This type of music is just so soothing to the ears and just hits you (ok, my corny moment is over..hehe)

  • This sounds like that Doobie Brothers song.

  • A former carpet layer from Ventura "borrows" Michael McDonalds style, riffs, and melodies and has the good fortune not to be sued for copyright infringement because McDonald is a class act and above the fray. Cudo's to Michael for exercising extreme restraint in order for this guy to experience his 15 minutes of fame.

  • This song is dedicated to a girl who I was so in love with Keri Martinez from NJ

She wouldn't even look my way even though we were close friends oooh she wass sooo beautiful and still is

  • I'm a 48 y/o black male, and I love just about every genre of music. I'm not sure why, but I woke up this morning (at about 7:15am cst) with this song in my head. I came to youtube thinking there would be a video to the song. Oh well! This song takes me back to my graduation year of 1980. I remember listening to it on WFMF in Baton Rouge. That was a wonderful station back then. They play everything from Rock to Pop to R&B to Country (Urban Cowboy days).. I miss those days.

  • @Creolepolo right on

  • @blueblob4. Yes, it is well known Dupree "copied" McDonalds style for this song...pretty much lock, stock and barrell!!

  • @gibbopg Im sure it has nothing to do with that fact that mcdonald is singing BACKUP vocals on this track like he did with so many people in the 70's and 80's. I mean come on the guy was amazing. Hell I dont know a Song Micheal Mcdonald ever did backup on that i did not love. His voice is timeless. Good call on it though not many people would have picked his voice out on this track.

  • @revealer34 If I'm not mistaken. M Mcdonald co-wrote this song. that's why it has that What a Fool Believes groove.

  • makes me want to steal lol

  • I remember roller skating athe the "Skatemore" to this song when I was a kid. Good stuff.

  • His lips don't move in the clip.....is he a mime?

  • vim pelo amaury jr. rsrsrs!

  • I am 354 years old...its a good tune.

  • I'm "only" 34 and I love this song as well

  • This song feels a lot like "What a fool believes" by the Doobie Brothers… I mean its seems very similar…

  • @blueblob4 a copy paste dude, totally

  • Esta música fez muito sucesso na década de 80 e até hoje toca muito na Antena 1 e Alpha FM. E não é para menos. Faz bem para os ouvidos e para a alma.

  • '70's greatnes,...

  • cool riff, but I liked it better when it was called What a Fool Believes

  • This is one of the best of the best,

    Charles

    Rare Gems Odyssey

  • Ah to be young again. So many memories and so much magic in this song

  • que cancion un clasico 1980

  • AWSOME

  • one of the greatest songs ever ,

    to me anyway

  • Love it!

  • This guy was a generic Kenny Loggins at best.

  • As a 42 yr old black male, I can say, this is truly good music. I am a hip hop head but I also grew up on this music. I just listened to "Reminiscing" by Little River Band, good stuff! You guys are right, they don't make em like this anymore. And what's funny is they say the same things in the black community. Old school guys like Lillo Thomas, Sherrick, Freddie Jackson, Alexander O Neal, they just don't make good music anymore. and that goes for Rock, Pop, R&B, Hip Hop...SMH. Peace to all!

  • @Ressurection316 I am 38 years old, and I love the 70's and 80's very much as well!!! I understand your taste for the "old" er stuff too.

  • @Ressurection316 i love 'reminiscing' too

  • @Ressurection316 I'm 45, this song came out during one of the best years of my life, I have so many great memories wrapped up in this song.

  • @Ressurection316 As a 46yr old black male I just love this song !!!! my father loved this song...

  • @Ressurection316 Seems there's many different ways to communicate the emotion of a song to reach a common ground!

  • @Ressurection316 I totally agree with you.

  • @Ressurection316 feel u bro

  • @Ressurection316 I love this posting... it is refreshing to read the words of someone so open to what music is! I am a 47 year old white male and something of an old school head banger... Led Zepplelin, Black Sabbath, etc. But if I were to name the most talented songwritter of all time it would have to be Stevie Wonder. Music is meant to transend racial barriers I believe; unfortunately a lot of people miss the big picture. Your posting actually made my day; thanks for that, and peace to you!

  • @drubedo 50 year old white male. Grew up in Tuscaloosa, Alabama as a teenager. We could go from Ted Nugent to LTD to Frank Zappa to Earth Wind and Fire to Pink Floyd all in one night. Got to admit we tripped some black dudes out driving around with our contraband and listening to Dark SIde of the Moon! Good times.

  • @drubedo amen brother.

  • @Ressurection316 Hey, check out Mayer Hawthorne. Nerdy white dude who grew up in Detroit listening to his parents' Motown records. The boy done gone to the vault and messed with it.

  • @Ressurection316 I feel ya. i'm a 35 yr old black male and I agree with everything you said. My ipod has everything from this to EWF to Nirvana to the gap band etc. Good music is good music no matter what. You are not a true music lover if you can't appreciate all types of music.

  • @jerbojones Music is a great healer. And I do appreciate that all of it has something to bring to humanity.

  • @jerbojones I am pleased too hear that you gentlemen have once again proven that if we look into our hearts and look past color were all the same on the inside.I completely agree that music was a valuable asset too any community, any culture, any age...Today music is so computer generated that ya can't tell which is what or 4 that mater who is fake...I applode you and Ressurection316, I personally love gospel and yes I like too reminisce of the 70's and era I grew up with.

  • @jerbojones i agree w/my whole heart

  • @jerbojones amen

  • @jerbojones So true !!!.. I'm 55 now and I love all types and genres of music..Lot's of them bring back great memories of high school and my time in the service..

  • @jerbojones Yeah. I had to play this at my husbands funeral....also got living thing by elo.

  • @jerbojones DITTO

  • Respond to this video... This song makes me light up.

  • @Ressurection316 amen wish we could go back my friend

  • @Ressurection316 You are right man, I am 41 myself, and this shit is the best, you agree?

  • @Ressurection316, As a 44 year old, I like your comment, very.

  • This song is the "sister" of "What a fool believes" of The Doobie Brothers, isn't?

  • @timmhg Yeah, the older sister...

  • Jams for Killing People.

  • thumbs up!

  • 1:37 and 3:06 Robbie goes street on yo ass. (Sounds like he says "n!gga tonighhhhttttt....") ROFL

  • What a great song!!!!!!!!!!! Remember this well on my graduation day back in 1980:):):)

  • The fact that people recognize good music from SHIT like the stuff around today is NOT Marxism. Ramble On!

  • "NO ONE IN THE MUSIC INDUSTRY MAKES GOOD MUSIC LIKE THIS ANYMORE !!"

When is the world going to understand that Marxism KILLS innovation, and the human spirit? Read Thomas Jefferson he knew all about it - before Karl Marx was even around. There is no coincidence that with the rise of socialism there is a rapid decline in innovative individuality that manifests itself in music.

Wake up America. The pathetic new music of today is just another sign of our society going down the tubes.
