The difference between Leo Nucci & Thomas Hampson is night & day. Hampson's "Americanised" vowels & diction are horrendous in this aria, his tonality is VERY uneven and his notes are most UNTIDY - such faults become especially glaring in the latter part of the aria. Nucci's tonality on the other hand is FAULTLESS and his PRECISION is dynamite!
And Hampson, despite being exceedingly handsome, has the most UNattractive facial expressions. Nucci's facial expressions are very appealing and sexy.
Leo Nucci owns the audience, the stage, and the atmosphere from the very first joyous, brilliant note and charming smile! His voice is wonderfully sonorous, full of vibrant energy and wonderful ringing notes, and his acting is fantastic! Bravo, maestro!
