whatever....that last section where the flughel horn plays unison with the band is disgustingly on point... it's great, love the arrangement too...the sax player did for me in this rendition...
how does someone sound like a white player..jazz is jazz as long as everyone respects the love of it, it shouldnt matter what any one sounds like. With that being said, everyone just stfu if there is going to be retarted speculation. Thanks
Wow I've never ever ever heard Allen Vizzutti talk, man all this past months I though he was Italian or something, but wow he is American, and wow I'm in shock!!! FYI the preformance is great 1111
Hi just wanted to introduce myself . I play many official and private functions at Aviano Air Force Base I often include this brilliant gem . I hope to have the good fortune to meet you some day. Keeping the jazz light lit is paramount in this high tech. but culturally dark time. Very nice Pax Wallace
I absolutely love this piece! Allen does a wonderful job arranging this for Big Band and I love how he has some of Clifford's original solo in there. Here is one of the best! Gotta love it!!!
Yeah, that kind of comment bugs me. By that yardstick, how do we account for all the Korean and Chinese musicians who play Mozart and Chopin so brilliantly? Maybe I'm getting off track a little, but the notion that you have to be born into a tradition to play it convincingly is nothing but romance. Another example is Rory Block, a white female guitarist and singer who plays the SHIT out of those old Robert Johnson songs.
Someone commented above that the trumpet player sounds too white. what the hell does that mean? dude, get out of the 1950s. In any case, this arrangement kicks ass.
@jonwlong Wow Vizzuti isn't even even white you idiot he's Italian quit thinking that only black players can be hip Vizzuti has the cleanest sound I have ever heard in my life Clifford Brown would totally agree if he were still with us.
@JazzTrumpetBlues Iranian isnt a race, U mean Persian, which encompasses Iran to afghanistan. Hindu is a religion, there are multiple super-tribes in Indian. And Italian is not a race, it is just mediterraenean white as opposed to albino white irish can be at times.
I don't want to be misunderstood here - Vizzutti is a COMPLETE virtuoso on the trumpet. However, his jazz is so WHITE. Too clean? With his unsurpassed accuracy, I'd love to hear him play the lead spot in a big band.
yea, true. but i also love they way he'll shoot for notes he actually can't hit in front of an audience. wynton and some others great virtuosos won't. i really enjoy seeing that a lot.
This is actually pretty damn fun. This piece isnt about soul and blues. Brown named it joy spring for a reason; if you feel that happyness this piece has then you know its done well.
When I said soul, I meant it in a context of improvisation. Miles, Coltrane, and Clifford always played with originality, but this is just running lines. It seems like every musician nowadays just memorizes licks to make a generic lifeless solo
i think it's a matter of taste. He didn't really go outside of the harmonic structure to make it interesting but some people may like the arrangements over solo work.
Like this if you play trumpet

The Tenor sax Guy is fingering his instrument the whole song XD

Allan Vizzutti is an amazing trumpet player but not a jazz trumpet player, he plays his solo like a "Arban Etude"...

Yes, he is American. He was raised in Missoula, Montana. He was fantastic on trumpet at age 13 - and probably long before that!

@cmde123 No one said you have to be born into a tradition to play it. Sounding white and being white are not necessarily the same thing.

Well, after listening to the video, it "white" obviously means "really good."

he could do lead in a big band, has the range and sound, just these guys swing like a computer. and cant play much bop, or cool licks.

Swinin hard. Allen killed those changes.. He just.. sounds too classical I guess. No doubt a great player though. Great arrangement.
But no one can swing this like Brownie.
