If Kimimaro lived for even another second, Gaara either would've died and have the sand collapse, impaling his body and Lee, or put him in enough pain so that, combined with the exhaustion from the fight, would make the sand collapse and impale Gaara and Lee, due to Gaara's little to no remaining chakra.
