Too many shades of the Matrix sequel to be a good movie. I know this is the original concept and Matrix ripped it off, but the whole stupid dance club and the shitty dance club guy who is a wacky egomaniac was pulled straight from the matrix, just one example. Plus, Tron was an afterthought of a character, what a waste of an opportunity to make something awesome I actually liked the guy who played Sam and Olivia's character was just annoying. Hot, but annoying.

@pilotsim that's ok that is your opinion i too agree that the story was rather weak with many cliche's we've all seen before but for your points on old flynn is stupid because first of all it's Jeff Bridges and second of all if you had any knowledge of the original Tron, he played his character Kevin from that movie in this one. And of course he's going to be old in the first one he was in his mid 30's and in this movie he was stuck in a digital world for more than 20years.

Just seen it in 3-D IMAX. I knew it would be great because the movie critics hated it. WOW! I remember how revolutionary the origional was in 82 (though cheezy by todays standards). The timeframe between Trons is too wide but that is the only flaw I see with this movie... nothing cheezy about this. And the Lightcycles and Lightbuggy, who wouldn't want to have one? The former was cool in 82 and have only improved. The special effects are at a point where I often don't know whats real.

@KtwaTembo Do you mean Clu because Flynn didn't create Tron, he created Clu. Plus the MCP found Clu early on in the film and 'absorbed' or wotever to be a part of him, so if Clu somehow survived being absorbed into the MCP and then the MCP being destroyed with the help of Flynn then it makes sense that Clu would have beef with Flynn instead of Tron because Flynn helped Tron destroy the MCP. Plus young JB seems like the bad guy and Clu in the original was played by JB wen he actually was younger.

@HeatVisionPaolo see the bad guy in this one is Clu 2.0 kevin created him when he went back to the grid so that he didnt have to work so hard to maintain it but clu 2.0 betrayed him and began to run things Tron was either drezzed by clu 2.0's dark guards or some believe that Rinzler (clu 2.0's right hand man) is tron turned bad because resemblance in suits and a similar skill set.

I like the updated design of equipment and suits. They have their own new identity but still manage to evoke that groundbreaking look and feel of the original TRON movie. I always felt that the lack of contrast in TRON contributed to a sense of other-worldliness. They've left that behind for an ultra-crisp and dramatic contrast, but the overall dark serves just as well for an 'alien' feel. If the story is at all as compelling as the visual experience, this will be a worthwhile movie indeed.

@hulagurlie yeah, he definitely misspoke. I think what he was getting at was that he wanted the suits to seem to /emit/ light -- so that they weren't just illuminated, but actually illuminating. You can imagine that with modern CG that it's easy enough to make a stripe look like it glows... but then to step out into the environment (in a set that isn't necessarily real itself) and believably show those curvey stripes 'casting' light out onto other surfaces should be a very cool effect.

If the movie was nothing but those 35 minutes, I'd see it opening day on True IMAX (the massive screen, not the tiny version of IMAX).. p.s. @wryamaha19 - their DJs and did the soundtrack. i think this movie looks awesome, but i'm still not entirely 100% convinced about the cgi jeff bridges. yeah they're doing a good job with the motion capture for his facial expressions, but why not just film jeff bridges and then use cgi to soften the wrinkles the same way they did for the 19 year old cate blanchett in benjamin button? it would look a lot more organic to me as opposed to making an entirely cgi face, but trailers dont always show finished products for the SFX so im hopeful :)
