@shadowhunting actually the legion was a german legion for loong time.there are french versions of almost every german war song =) my relative was para in ww2,captured in tunisia and volunteered to legion. he even fought in indochina,where the legion got defeat and many died.he dreamed of it EVERY night until his death,but he was hell of a guy. like hercules

I served in the 2ème Régiment Étranger de Parachutistes, 2nd Foreign Parachute Regiment, for 5-years. I enlisted on my 18th birthday, looking for excitement and most certainly found it. To my regret, I didn't re-enlist at the conclusion of my contract and returned to the states. I really miss the camaraderie. This song, along with Le Boudin, really brings back some fond memories. I'm Irish, I served in La Legion for the 5 year term. Loved every minute. It's a way of life, not just a military way of life but a state of mind. Believe me you will find yourself in The Farm. if your lucky enough to get into one of the few regiments to do jungle training in South America you will be amazed at what ur mind and body can endure. All of this shit in the normal world is not important.

I regret leaving but i hav until i'm 40 to go back in if i want. im only 25 now so who knows?

I love the foreing legion. Fine men which are fighting for france and the legion. After WW2 a lot of german guys join the FL and they fought for exemple in vietnam and in algeria for France. They died like the flies but still the keept on fighting, in Dien Bien Phu and on other battlefields. German ww2 veterans lead by french officers- on of the finest troops on the earth. The Vietcong may come by the thousands, this men kept on fighting.. Vive la France, Vive Allemagne, Legio Patria Nostra !!!

usmc yes very good not as good in my view as seals but there S.F like the uk SBS not SAS who are different but i did 3 years after moving in 2nd para(uk) left in 76 went back in 77 almost 10 months later joined up passed R.M i was in changed red for green then in 82 went to join legion got in 8weeks later fell off a pole 35ft up broke shin bone and ankle dismissed i would say in 11 hours not even a bus/train pass but love these songs and i always think what if

@pfauver65 USMC is a good army corp. But whatever you say, the facts are different. The FFL is the only military corp from the world who's training in all weather conditions and terrains, and this made them the best of the best. You can't even compare a soldier from FFL with one from USMC; first of all the one from the Legion has much more combat experience and mental toughness, and second nobody known all the FFL deeds, because they don't talk about. DI is a "tough guy"?! Don't make me laugh...

@AuxaneD: there is no fighting force in the world finer than the US Marines. That is just a simple fact. I respect the Legion. I have worked next to them. They are good. So are the Royal Marines. BUT... nothing strikes fear like a US Marine Landing Team hitting an objective. Nothing is more brutal. No target survives. No mission has failed. Only one battle lost since 1775- Wake Island; and even then we were outnumbered like 1000 to 1.

Back during Desrt Storm I had the pleasure of serving along side the Legion. Finest men in the world when it comes to mission accomplishment. I really do like the way the Legion stresses singing by all. It builds comraderie and unit cohesion. The US Military should take a lesson. When I first served in the USMC we sang alot but as the years went by it seemed to have gone by the wayside.
