  • I want.

  • pleasse... stick to the RV people seriously this is just overboard

  • slower than a snail !

  • That's nothing compared to Howl's moving castle...

  • What's this for? I think it's cool regardless of current practicality or speed.

  • this is definitely breaking some speed records

  • I crawl faster than this!

  • was anyone else expecting it to run off into the distance, collapse on itself then burst into flames?

  • more like a self propelled skip

  • I heard about this.. I was expecting an actual house.. not a box.

  • for some reason i wnat to live in it

  • i wonder if anyone will give you insurance for the house ...

  • it might be useful to hide from zombies ^^

  • @payijo :) exactly its slow enough to trick the zobies, if bad human smell wont get out of it we are safe :) moving safe house, have to build some thing like this :) without 30 years bank credit, but redesign this, coz these are expensive.

  • IMHO the design lacks "stackability" to compile/assemble like Leggos™ otherwize a convertable pick up truck. or a Van do that now at 90 MPH. Great start though. The project must have been fun to design/build. I love the autonomy of it - being off the grid, very "Green"!! Do more, do more. Run with it.

  • can this be faster???

  • it'll take years before it reach the next street.LOL

  • I can't relate to the comments so far. A walking house has many distinct advantages:

    1) Legs can take you places wheels cannot. Places without roads or on paths ridden with obstacles. Like most of the earth outside of cities. And Mars.

    2) It doesn't require a driver. It's slow enough that it could employ very basic AI to avoid very large obstacles, like giant boulders or pits.

    3) Scarcity of resources might require steady migration.

    4) Colonies on other planets might need to follow sunlight.

  • this is just fun. lets all get one!! xx den

  • Imagine a whole town just walking off

  • @gypsypage lol

  • What's the point of a walking house? Especially because this thing would only work on a flat surface, and only goes >1 MPH...

Why the fuck did they waist money to do this?

  • @Sareth740 becuase things might develope. "We build off the shoulders of giants"

  • imm pretty sure they r gonna make it like a car soon or something faster cause this is like 60km in a week-.- i walk 17times faster than that maybe even more

  • it would be cool if you like to move house every 6 months and dont mid it taking 6 months to get there.

  • uhhh... could be cool if it had wheels. :/ Seems so... SO slow....

  • @thegenesis204 True but it would also be unconfortable, I think you can't even feel it move from inside.

  • wie dumm mama ich komm gleich vorbei mit meim haus das hat laufen gelernt

  • why is everyone in such a rush?

  • what a piece of shit

  • so much noise

  • This is useful when you get to know your wife has a boyfriend.

While your wife is out , you can get away.

But tsunami is much faster than your walkinghouse.

  • so that look like more at a toilet than a house ...

so is that move only in front direction or turn too ?

  • so basicly our hard earned tax paying dollars pays for bullshit like this....hm

  • imagine bein on the bog while its movin :L

  • zoom

  • Okay, own up, who's bright idea was it to use sat dish actuators?

  • this is going to cause heavy traffic lol

  • want... now. can you buy these things yet?

  • a snail move faster than that XD

  • turtle dont shame too make a race with evry home !

  • hey, move your house outta my way!! :)

  • i'd rather live in a van. does the same thing but like 80km faster.

  • @bigmez1993 VANS DO NOT HAVE LEGS SO THEY CANNOT WALK SO THEY CANNOT POSSIBLY DO THE SAME THING!!!

  • so theres no definate home address lol

  • Timelapse would have been nice :)

  • What if you have to turn?

  • This is so incredibly adorable!

Don't you feel the urge to pet it??

  • WOW now moving out of the neighborhood will be alot easier

and it only takes 2 days to get down to the end of the street

  • at this rythm it will take like 3 days to get you till you job place :)

  • Well, it depends how far your job is, but yes.. Pretty much :) It can walk like 60m/h.. So if you sleep 8 hours, this thingie walks only 480m. Not even half a kilometer. But, if you start moving right when you get home (if you get home right after your job) then there is quite a possibility that you will make it. If your job is very near of course. But they said that the house is not meant for living anyways. It's useful for the floods and stuff like that.

  • a house that can walk me to my job while i sleep ? what can i ask for more!

  • boring house

  • That must've cost half a mill + waste of money.

  • About the size of my walk-in closet, so its more like a walking room not a walking house. I got a single axle camping trailer with a hitch i can move faster than that with my bare hands, and its insulated, with a toilet, mini kitchen, ac, and 60gal.water. Hell, all i need is solar panels. This is not a new creation or magnificent scientific breakthrough. End result: More wasted grant money. Could have been used to pimp the white van that drove by.

  • And what the hell makes you think they used grant money to build this?

  • why walk when you could have wheels?

  • fuck

  • Can it walk/crawl faster?

  • In no way is this a waste of money. Judging from the size of that thing, I think it can be held up with 4 wheels instead of 6. If they are upright and attached to axles they may even even roll. Now add some sort of motor and you can possibly achieve freeway speeds. I think we have the future right here. I love art, but this is no Theo Jansen. It's a WTF were you thinking?

  • how much?

  • no property taxes. walk your house to a new lot all the time. no mortgages =). idk. its interesting. that thing is so small though youd be better off just getting a camper. duhh.

  • i want one... because.

  • good

  • Pointless? Not if it's something we've never seen or thought of before, or it it evokes fresh responses that lead to other new expressions - be they artistic or practical. Current 'mobile housing' is almost totally reliant on expensive infrastructures. Walking machines can gently tread anywhere...

  • thats cool yet totally pointless

  • Someone must have spent a SHATLOAD of money and time for this UTTERLY USELESS 6 TONNE PILE OF JUNK!

    W T F

  • Thats not entirely true!

I don't know about you, but it has surely touched many open-minded people. Personally i love the idea of a nomadic lifestyle and bringing technology with it would just be totally awesome.

Of course it's easier to stay and live in our cities, but some people do prefer a more active life where you do things that are challenging and fun but looks utterly useless for other people.

    Have a great life!

  • wtf is this? go find a cure for cancer lol xD

  • so................. motorhome then...

  • what is the point of this?

  • so you can get to work (after a few days!) :)

    very nice creation though :D

  • go buy a caravan

  • Who wasted their time and money making this thing?

  • Terrible sound!

  • from their website "... The structure should move at a slow pace similar to the walking speed of the human body. It is a common fact that walking often helps a person concentrate their thoughts and creates a mental state that enforces mobility of the mind. ..."

  • *gasps!* I want one! ^.^

  • My house is faster ;)

  • Hahaha these things kind of remind me of those giant walker mechs in Star wars. slow, huge (well this things just plain big period, its just small for a house) and strong :D

  • Isent that the whole point of a camper. or Mobile home.

  • that's awesome!! it really moves from solar power! Progress stands on such kind of people. People are asking: "What 4?" sentury ago people were asking: "what for automobiles are? we have horses." it's part of future

  • 1: It's lifting an entire small living area

2: Obviously it can be improved.... thats why its not finished...

  • IS BETTER TO WALK...

  • kinda small and kinda slow :/

  • I think everything in the house should walk too - walking sofa, walking toilet, walking coffee table, walking fridge, walking wok...

  • The worrying thing is...whoever built that thing must think it's really really cool. When, all along, it's simply really really, painfully slow. Infact, I don't think I've see hydraulics work that slow anywhere before. Just imagine if JC Bamford made diggers that slow!

  • next project...washing machine on a bicycle.

I mean, you have to just ask...why.

  • Never heard about the wheel?

  • It's made for extremely obese people so they can go in the McDonalds drive through without getting out of the house... or off the couch.

  • wtf is the point of this

  • I'm surprised nobody saw this and immediately thought of the Russian legend of Baba Yaga and her house-on-legs...

  • AAAH RAPIST!!!

    PROTECT THE CHILDREN!

  • 1;it's the thing FIRST STEPS,no moving machine was fast at the begining(and for those smart arses who are thinking about planes,we flew with ballons first!)it will go faster as it develops.

2:not mention here, the house is self-sustainable,using solar and wind as energy(the chimney is for the stove).it woun't run out of gas as it flees.

3:made by university student, with a limited budjet.more money will give better results.

4:for te woried about size, check out The Hour's video on 'Tiny Houses'.

  • So, why would anyone want to live in a house that small? And if it is that small, why not just use wheels? This seems like a downgrade from even the cheapest RV you could buy.

  • because its cooler to have a house that walks :p

  • LOL. Imagine all the attention you'd get. o.0

  • haha, exactly!

plus, no one would mess with you if you're walking down the road in that thing!... all it needs is a few machine guns and it's good to go!

  • so your saying its a walking tank. well if thats the case why not just put that in war xD

  • Not toooo sure where the lads are going with this idea, - all I'll say is that the Transit Van that pulls up the lane way at the end of the video kind'a makes an unintential 'look at me, I can go anywhere, joke / swipe' at the walker. - A bit more info here on youtube about the concept may intice me to click the link provided. Anyhow, nice to see something ...eh....erm.... odd.

  • this thing could be made faster. You have to remember that this was made by mit students and with the help of some type hydrolics experts and things like that this thing could probably be useful

  • This is soooooooooooo funny! LOL! ...so this is the house that's supposed to get away from flood? And by that they meant a foot-deep flood. The flood would have long subsided when this thing reach a quarter of it's destination.

  • I have a suggestion, WHEELS!!!

  • Great Idea!!! LOL

  • "WHEELS"!!! Great Idea "ardentoctopus"! LOL

  • It took 2 minutes to move about 3 feet. At this rate, it would take the average person 3 months to get to work in the morning.

  • Look at it move... at a whooping 1 mile per hour. -_- Try not to break any land speed records, guys!

  • It doesn't so much walk as stand there, eh?

  • its so slow this things garbage now.

  • Sell it to the Japanese. They'll make it go ten times faster, put a couple arms on it and add a rocket launcher on top.. then it'll be cool. ;0)

  • With rocket launcher would be hit in usa, japanese people are way to overworked to think about any war ... :P

  • Funny idea but I don't see the point.

  • no mames asi o mas lento, si quiero que corra por que biene un sutnami xD ya stubo que no se salvo amenos de que la ponga a correr 8 horas antes. jajaja

  • Why wud anyone want a moving house and one that moves so slowly.

  • to travel all over the world :P

if it was faster imagine how would be at inside hahaha

  • in the future 'running for the white house' no longer a methaphor! :D

  • I wonder if you could have a moving beer keg to go with the trailer

  • Hahaha xD

    Thx you've made my day^^

  • hmm kinda retarded

  • porque mierda no le ponen ruedas?

  • OH shoot! slower than me great grandma~

  • could it possibly move any slower?????

  • I've seen a moving house before.

    It's called a trailer.

I know where there is a park full of them, maybe I'll make a video.

  • a homeless house! wow, exactly what the world needs! just imagine hundreds of thousands or millions of these suckers roaming around cobblestone superhighways in our environmentally sustainable future. and what it could do for the homeless! amazing.. really great!

  • That was so slow. someone needs to make a timelapse video of it

  • hey wat is my house doing on this video

  • I stepped on something this morning that kinda looks like that.

  • hmmmmmm FAAAIIIILLLLLLL lol hahahahahha

  • wtf is the point of this ?

  • hahahhaa fckin crazy looool

  • thats crazy

  • the feet fucking step on each other

  • maaaaaaaaaan that's so fast !!

  • Archigram would be so very proud.

  • thats no house

  • If it moved any slower, it would be a........house.

  • hahaha

  • this is the dumbest thing i have ever seen

  • whats wrong with a caravan

  • the hydrolics that lift the feet need to be faster, but im glad to see someone is doing this. and i really dont know why

  • It's an interesting item. (though - don't tell U-Haul about it :P )

I wonder what the practical applications might be for a movable house like that.

  • Dr.who's new ride,the reTardis.just paint it blue.

  • You can totally run away from a foreclosure with that thing.

  • hahaha!

  • una roulotte nn ve piaceva?

  • "What the?!?!? Honey, did you remember to tie up the house before we left?"

  • now thats a mobile home!

  • mierda WTF thas a slow ass walk is better a trailer man!

  • idk i think its a retarded idea for achitecture

  • una basura! malisimo.

  • I'd rather take the van

    2:06

  • now lets put some slanted wings and a thruster and you yourself a tie-fighter

  • wow, it moves 1 feet per hour!!

  • I grew a beard watching that.

  • So basicly it's an eco-friendly all terain motor home.

  • According to the article this is what it does: It collects energy from its surroundings using solar cells and small windmills. There is a system for collecting rain water and a system for solar heated hot water. A small greenhouse unit can be added to provide a substantial part of the food needed by the Inhabitants. A composting toilet system allows sewage produced by the inhabitants to be disposed of. A small wood burning stove could be added to provide CO2 neutral heating.

  • I wish they wouldn't have posted the entire video in sow motion...

  • No one realizes how this was filmed in europe huh? (right hand driver?)

its not a waste of american money.. its a waste of brit money.

  • Read the bleeding tags.

  • LOL nice name, and thank you i finally did, and the links, and WOW, what a waste of money.. lol

i thought this was for science.. not a house...

we make these better.. they are called RV's..

  • nice project. very innovative. On the speed, i like it. How fast would you want the contents of your fridge knocking about? Very well done.

  • da speed

  • It's the precursor to the containment barriers the combine use in the halflife 2/orange box..........

  • jajjaaja

  • nice Step :D

  • probabily the next year is 12 feet front

  • DIDN'T HAVE ANYTHING BETTER TO DO

  • ummm... they already invented something better than this. It is called an RV, and I'm sure you could get one that is very "green" since that is the point of this waste of space project.

  • there should be a time lapse for this...it would make the vid way better...

  • wouldn't kind of suck if your house walked off somewhere...

  • pretty cool; although you really should've hit fast forwad or something. ppls attention span nowadays are around 30secs - 1min... like mine lol

  • you need a high speed camera for recording this

  • Its faster than my VW!

  • In that case buy my g60 mk1 golf because i never use it ;)

  • caramba! se mueve a un centimetro por hora jajaja

  • One small step for house, one giant leap for housekind...

  • are you trying to go back in time to when there were no rvs, fifth wheels, or vehicles in general? Not only does it move ridiculously slow it would have nowhere to park and nobody to want to live in it

  • I am watching party of five eating a chocolate eclair oooo...jennifer love hewitt is makin my mouth water....I soo wish she would magically come out of the tv and lick whip cream off my face...ahhhhhh!!!!!!

  • hi hi hi hi hi hi hi

  • useless thing

  • The concept is interesting but I'm not really sure if it's actually practical.

  • am i the only person who can figure out how to make this thing go faster..and still keep it basically the same? you connect all the legs to one horizontal bar..then u connect a bar from the horizontal bar to the house and give it a loose fitting so the house can swing..abit of weight placment and there ya go..go as fast as u like and the weights stop house swinging..for all those reading..i cant even spell the words im using and i thought of this..these guys.well...better not be tax money!
