  • This was scarily accurate

  • I started reading Harry Potter in about 5th grade, about a year after The Deathly Hallows came out. (I'm a youngster, lol.) This was pretty much my feelings about it, except instead of getting the book in the mail it was about getting the book out of hold from the library. xD

  • I wonder if JK Rowlling ever saw this.

  • No spoilers my ass :)

  • I just watched 2 months worth of their videos and then went to this. I loved them before I even really knew. And I just realized it's been almost 5 years since I first heard this song.

  • Its pretty hilarious how the videos of the @Vlogbrothers has gone from this medium quality of video and great quality of stuff in video TO today's videos with amazing quality of video and supermegafoxyawesomehot quality of stuff in video :D

  • @PhoeniX333666999 I liked that just because you used "supermegafoxyawesomehot". :D

  • i started youtube a while ago but a watched way before that and this video (same with the starting of brotherood 2.0) that are really familiar and then i realized... IVE BEEN A NERDFIGHTER SINCE I WAS FREAKING 9 YEARS OLD :O

  • and cue HP book/movie marathon

  • :) I love this video. This is one of the first ever Vlogbrother videos have seen.

  • In Latin "c" is normally pronounced as kay. So for example, Ceasar is pronounced Kai-sar..

  • never get tired of this song

  • All of his predictions except for Hermione dying came true.... scary.

  • Here's what happened: JK Rowling heard this song, said, "Oh my God, that's genius!" and rewrote her book in three days. (This is a joke and a compliment to Hank's genius and JK Rowling's writing *insert impossibly strong noun for awesome here*, even though we all know JKR was a genius.)

  • I just met a fellow nerdfighter because she was singing this song in the dorm hallways. Thanks Hank!

  • @ThatsNotOkay1 I wish I had such luck. but that's awesome.

  • it is pronounced ackio as in latin, all cs are solid.

  • @Number27IsMe consecutive c's make a "ch" sound, I thought. Maybe I'm thinking of a different language.

  • @TheFlyinDeam That's only in italian, not latin. :)

  • @Number27IsMe haha. I knew I was thinking a different language.

  • @Number27IsMe Actually, that's not true. I can't speak for Latin, but in Italian, it's what letter comes after "c" that makes a difference. "ci" is pronounced as a ch, but "ca" is pronounced as a c. The double c isn't what matters.

  • at first i thought he said "my negroes" not "my need grows"...

  • In all fairness.. The fact that Harry was a horcrux was pretty obvious. I felt that from book 6

  • Though truthfully, I pronounce it A**io.

  • @iamacatspy me too (: its preatty fun to say "your such a accio deathly hallows ..." lol i break into song

  • AXIO? Hmmm...

  • I can't tell you how much the video (and song) means to me

  • no spoilers? no spoilers? You spoiled the whole book! How r u doing this???

  • I feel as though I am a proper nerdfighter because I know all the words to this. I'm not saying you can't be a nerdfighter otherwise, but it's a significant tick in my box.

  • When Hank sang this at Tour de Nerdfighting, everyone was singing along with EVERY word. It was so beautiful :')

  • You are pronouncing Accio Wrong!

  • @NimmoPie Trust me, he knows, haha. People tore him apart for it after he posted the video

  • (no spoilers)...yeah right. HANK RUINED THE WHOLE FREAKING BOOK!!!!

  • @marissagrace23 He wrote this before the book came out, actually, so it was all guesses- none of it was known at that time. So really- there weren't any spoilers.

  • It makes me sad that there is no longer any new Harry Potter books or movies for us to Accio.

  • Some of it was not hard to guess.... *waits for the yells of ineptitude*

  • It still freaks me out how accurate this video was.

  • I'm really glad that Charlie remade this video a couple of years later. I'm not sure I would have discovered the vlogbrothers (and, by extension, many other really awesome youtubers) if he hadn't.

  • 'i wish it didn't have to end at all' <3

  • no offence but iv seen like two harrypotter movies. BUT i know all the words to this song xD

  • PSYCHIC POWERS!

  • dude, seriously, how does he know this? he had to know it really did happen

  • Accio is pronounced AQ-CHE-HOO7!!!!!!!! the 7 is silent though

  • OH MY GOD! UPLOADED ON MY BIRTHDAY!!!! :D

  • i didn't get this song when i first heard it, but since then i've started reading harry potter, and now i'm towards the end of book 3. i'm very happy to be in the loop. lol

  • @19ladybug95 Welcome to one of the best series in the world that has the some of the best fans in the world. It's a wonderful, honest and loving community, you'll enjoy it here:)!

  • @TheoreticalLife aw thank you :)

  • No spoilers?

    Seriously?

    Oh, Hank.

  • new favorite song.

  • Actually, in the audiobooks it says one, in the movies it says another, and Rowling says it's another. So there are 3 proper pronunciations: Ackio, Axio, and Assio. So there, just to set the record straight, he did NOT mess up. I pronounce it Ackio though. :D

  • Akkio!! Not Axio :( That made me sad. Although I mispronounce things half of the time so it's not like I blame Hank!

  • @eeveryoneelse there's 3 ways to pronounce it

  • Why did he pronounce accio wrong?

  • @Joesphfffffff He didn't.

  • @MooseAndDolphin Yes he did.

  • I love the little Elvis-esque curl of hair Hank's got going on.

  • this song was longer than three minutes and thirty seconds.

  • Steven Fry says it like hank, so therefore he is right, if you wish to argue against General Melchett go ahead .

  • It just makes me laugh to think that I could be a wizard if I just learned Latin and tried out random words describing what I wanted to do while brushing my teeth or drunk. It'd take a few tries, but eventually, I could be a real wizard! A slurring or hygiene-obsessed wizard with terrible timing!

  • Four years later and we are still arguing about how to pronounce Accio.

  • @teenwriter89 and we will for years

  • @teenwriter89 Everyone will pronounce it how they think it sounds better, no one cares about how it "should" be pronounced, and that's the way it should be.

  • @ayubisobhan Actually, I'm pretty sure the way it should be pronounced is however J.K. Rowling intended it to be pronounced. Which we're all still wondering.

  • I always said it like a see o instead of aks c o

  • @HazelnutOatmeal ive always said ak e o :/

  • This kinda makes me sad in the face :( cause the story ended already...

  • You say accio like axicio : D

  • sorry if this is a retarded question, but what does accio mean?

  • @OwlCityFan26 It's a Harry Potter spell, which brings objects to the person who says accio. For example: "Accio Firebolt!" the Firebolt would come to you.

  • Hank, you're diction is so much better than Charlie's, i can understand EVERYTHING you're saying although Charlie was probably struggling with the accent..still :)

  • what do you mean no spoilers? you pretty much predicted the whole plot! :)

  • @SomeoneBeginingWithI He wrote this before the books came out. The were just (very accurate) guesses.

  • This is my new favorite song! :)

  • He says 'Accio' weird... Haha awesome song though :)

  • @meghantucker1998 Now I, being a Classics-Latin major, fully understand wanting to preserve the original pronunciations, but if you are reading Cicero you would use the Classical pronunciation and if you are reading a Medieval monk, you would use the Ecclesiastic. You are reading J.K. Rowling. Let Hank pronounce it whatever way he wants!

  • @meghantucker1998If anything, English itself would be "semi-Latinistic" considering over 50% of, both the vocabulary AND the grammar was directly taken from Latin. Now, back to the actual point-it is wholly illogical to attempt to ascribe a 2000 year old pronunciation to a word that was made up in the 21st century.

  • @meghantucker1998 That is absolutely ridiculous and you are obviously not serious at all. You can't be, because 1.) semi-Latinistic isn't even a thing and 2.) if it WAS you would be walking around pronouncing modern English words completely different than you do. I don't know you but I would bet on my house that you have never walked around saying things like "adwersary" which is derived from "adverus" or "brakelet" which is derived from "bracchium".

  • @meghantucker1998 Yeah, except for when it's Ecclesiastic Latin. Also, if you are seriously thinking that there was any attempt by Rowling to make the Latin make real sense (besides things like Felix Felicis-Nominative and Genitive singular forms) then you clearly haven't tried to parse it. Also, the audiobooks came out before the movie and in them the pronunciation was "axio".

You gonna tell people they should say "Imperwius" and "Lewicorpus" because Classical Latin pronounces Vs as Ws, too?

  • yup, no spoilers

  • We used to need Harry Potter... Now I need to chords to this song.

  • Or if Voldemort killed Hedwig just for yucks?

And what if Harry's brain is a horcrux?

    I think Hank is psychic...

He knew the ending (and beginning) three days before the release!

  • @TheHiguy1234 Well, really, you just need to use common knowledge.

See, Voldemort's soul was spread across 7 horcrux's, the seventh being a mystery, most likely Nagini, with each Horcrux being possessed on some way or another.

BUT, if you remember, Voldemort lost his power the night he tried to kill Harry. This makes Harry have some of his strength, and the ability to see into his thoughts/emotions.

It takes a little know-how, but eventually, you can put 2 and 2 together.

  • @PaperWeightPals Actually, Voldemort only intentionally made six horcruxes. One in the diary, one in the ring, one in the locket, one in the cup, one in the diadem, and one in Nagini. The seventh piece of soul was in his body. But it was so unstable it split off when the killing curse backfired and a piece joined Harry's mind, causing him to be "kinda not really a horcrux".

  • @PaperWeightPals You could have predicted the fact Hedwig died? And the fact that Harry has some of his powers could be the fact that they are distantly related.

  • @MEG4nerd Well, I was gonna add that he probably thought he made up the Hedwig part, but I ran outta characters.

  • @TheHiguy1234 I hope you know that people haven't read the book yet and now they know the ending

  • @TheHiguy1234 HE SAID NO SPOILERS!!!! you confirming his wild guesses is definitely a spoiler!! :(

  • @19ladybug95 ..if you dont know what happened by now... you cant blame higuy... this song is from 2007 and you comment is from a day ago.

  • I just wacked my laptop against the head board of my bed... While listening to this someone preferably hermione granger say repairo!!

  • I am still amazed how right you got everything.

  • @Magstarcutie Hank is not an amazing guesser, he is a seer.

  • I like how everyone says that 'accio' should be pronounced using rules from the English language....since when did English actually follow any of the 'rules' it makes? :)

  • Four, nearly five years later and people in the comments are still arguing about the way Hank says Accio lol.

  • ...Some of his predictions were totally true...

  • I wrote an interesting article comparing Harry Potter with real-life constructs from our world. Harry Potter contains a lot of interesting etymology and allegories, and if anyone who enjoyed the series is interested in learning the deeper, hidden meaning of Harry Potter, please message me or send me a reply, and I'll be sure to send you the information.

    Have a great day !

  • Finally, someone who pronounces accio the way I do!

  • It doesn't actually bother me, but of Staphen Fry says it's a-see-oh, then I shall say a-see-oh.

If we can't trust Stephen Fry, who can we trust?

  • you said Accio 14 times in this song, you pronounced it wrong every time :/

  • HOW DOES HE PREDICT THE WHOLE BOOK???

  • @lightingstrikes25

Not quite. Only about half of it was corrrectly predicted.

  • @TheFlurryofFlames

I understand it's a coming of age reference, but looking at it from a logical standpoint, the cosmos are really just putting one or few children through more psychological and/or physical trauma than most soldiers feel, and they get PTSD, whereas the protagonist is usually okay in a few years, albeit the lingering scar of 'cool, I saved the world' lingers over them like a Herculean shield of awesome, but it doesn't exactly change the character OVERALL. Such as Harry Potter.

  • Looking back, Hank, you should've titled this "July 18: Accio! Deathly Hallows (Possible Spoilers)".

And on another note, there's a reason I like books similar to the ones your brother writes; most books tend to focus on one small group of characters who, by some cosmic joke, tend to be underage and are forced to be the ones to save the world, as though they have both the raw talent or technological genius to actually do something as glorious as saving the world.

  • I love you Hank your amazing!

  • It's A-KI-O, not AX-I-OH, stupid muggle!

  • @funnypets456 So you pronounce 'accelerate' 'akkelerate' do you?

  • @KirbyT49 A-Key-Oh is the british pronounciation, it's a british book and a british film which means A-Key-Oh is the correct way.

  • @VideosOfJordan No, actually J.K. (British, the author) pronounces it A-xi-o. Stephan Fry (British, the audio book reader) pronounces it A-xi-o. The films (made by Warner Bros, AMERICAN) pronounce it A-Key-Oh. As most people saw the film first, or took their pronunciation from the film, that is the most common way of saying it, even though that doesn't follow the rules of the English language.

  • @funnypets456 I you want to get technical, it is actually pronounced A-CHI-O. Characters in the movie just said A-KI-O because of their accent.

  • @TheTopGun920 Dude. A-CHI-O in a british accent still sounds like A-CHI-O. It doesn't magicaly turn into A-KEY-O.

  • Pheonix tears on a broken nose...

  • i watch too much awesome music. i've been singing: accio deathly hallows, if you don't know what a quark is doesn't matter you've still got 'em.

  • so any other nerdfighters still watching this?

  • This was my very first Vlogbrothers vid. I can't believe I've already been a nerdfighter for 4 years. <3 Love you guys and DFTBA.

  • Hank, you can definitely teach Trelawney a thing or two... XD

  • I love how a lot of your predictions somewhat came true XD

  • do you have beef with john?

  • @WasupItsNico I'm sure he has, i suspect he has also had bacon and lamb with john before given that they were brought up together :P. Sorry, that bad joke had to be made.

  • I always pronounced it ass-ee-oh. Apparently it's actually ah-shee-oh.... So Hank, take comfort in both of us being wrong!

  • hahaha lol i love he predicts stuff that actually happened xD

  • RAWR ACCIO.

  • LOLOLOL at comment below me XD

  • Stop saying accio wrong. It's not axcio. I feel like I'm being mean, but it's driving me CRAZY!

  • I let out an uncontrolable whimper when he sang about killing hedwig

  • The video that changed everything.

  • most beautiful song ever written

    well done hank

  • Holy crap.

Hank I have those exact glasses. EXACT SAME PAIR.

    /life is made

  • Hank, you are an amazing guesser.

  • Why can no Americans pronounce Accio? >:(

  • @zapperstopew is it like ack-io or something?

  • @curiousitykills2 It is :D

  • @zapperstopew thats what my brother said one day im just so used to prounoucing it ass-io but recently ive been saying ackio

  • Comment removed

  • @zapperstopew I'm American and the way he pronounces it bothers me. xD I pronounce it "ack-io". But yeah. x)

  • @zapperstopew I'm American as well, & pronounce Accio correctly. (don't wanna end up like Seamus Finnigan). ;)

  • I want to learn how to play guitar just to play this song.

  • Comment removed

  • @2:53 This is the best sarcasm ever, these guys are awesome! Or made out of it anyway.

  • watching them all!

  • i think i'm the only one that pronounces it ah-si-oh xD but whatever. this song is so awesome he could pronounce it accablegh and i wouldn't care :P

  • someone make a lyric page for this

  • I just wanted to say...I like this original version a hundred times more than the studio version (which is also decent, but still...).

  • i love how accurate it is to say that he didn't know what was gonna happen...

  • i effing love this song. it get stuck in my head all the time and i'm sitting in my pre ap physics calls humming 'i need harry potter like a grindylow needs water and as Saturday approaches my need groooows...'

  • Your predictions in this are pretty awesome.

  • Don't feel sad... this is never going to end.

  • This is the first Nerdfighter thing I ever heard... 4 years after the book came out... On the Helping Haiti Heal Podcast.... That I listened to over a year after it first happened... And I only -actually- started watching these a week ago... So...

  • @jellybelly98rox Welcome to Nerdfiteria

  • Accio (Summoning Charm)

Pronunciation: Various suggestions have been made, including:

    /ˈæki.oʊ/ ak-ee-oh – film and video game

    /ˈæksi.oʊ/ ak-see-oh – U.K. audio book

    /ˈæsi.oʊ/ as-see-oh – U.S. audio book

    **courtesy of wikipedia. :)

now can we all please calm down about the right or wrong pronunciation, and just bask in the brilliance that is this song? :)

  • Comment removed

  • Dude, I love you, but it's pronounced Ack-ee-oh, not Acks-ee-oh. I cringe every single time.

  • This brings back so many memories... I read DH in 2 days... my dad bought it for me on the day it came out... we were overseas, so I got the cool British version (I'm American)... SIGH <3

  • why's he saying it like akxio

  • Dear Hank,

When I first watched this video back in 2007 I thought there was no way I could possibly love Harry Potter or Vlogbrothers or Nerdfighters more than I did then. Thanks for proving me wrong for four years straight. DFTBA.

  • How can you not love this song?

  • I like that the title says "No Spoilers" and he goes on to predict the whole book.

  • I remember going to the Midnight Book Release at Borders.

    *sigh* Harry Potter...

    *sigh* Borders...

  • *pleasantly jealous*

  • Let us have a moment for the song that changed Nerdfighteria, and it has never been the same.

I CAN'T DO IT I'M CRYING TOO HARD.

  • And why is he so depressed at the end?

  • @skatinanwaitin Don''t you remember how it felt the days before the release of DH? Maybe you hadn't read the books then? Then I can tell you it felt horrible. It was the same feeling as before the last movie but multiplied with 10000000. Just to realize that something you lived with and loved for ten years. My mom read the first to me when i was five, and I didn't even remember the time when you didn't wait for another hp book. It was a part of my life, and suddenly you knew it was going to end!

  • @dannerzme Thanks Man:)

  • Whatever's up the sleeves of J K Rowling, I bet it has to do with Snape unbreakably vowing, to protect that pure blood pus face Malfoy.

HERE'S TO THE SONG THAT CHANGED NERDFIGHTERIA FOREVER

  • axsio... haha

  • AH-KEY-OH.

His pronunciation does not help people with o.c.d. (witch I have)

    ..O.e

  • Uploaded on my bday!!

  • I finally got to this one( one of m faves) as I first watched the playlist and am now making my way through everything :3
