You can dodge it with shacos ulti, but even then the rest of ur team would be hit by the ulti, and since lol is a teamgame its always good to cancel this thing. Maybe that karthus failed, but it was still a good job from malz...

A Karthus usally deals more dmg than soraka can heal, because he is AP caster who rely on having tons of ability power, while soraka is a support who give her team gold and because of that dont buy that high amount of ability power items.
