  • i second that emotion my worst nightmare

  • One would be silly to compare Duran Duran to Japan , both great bands, And to comment on this song ( a cover of ? ) David has an amazing voice. Love Japan love Romance.

  • RIP Mick Karn.

  • Happy birthday today to David Sylvian!

  • これが好きでした!

  • Japan the band (with Rob included) probably influenced enormously Japan the country. The Results, working with japanese people, having japanese girlfriends. Note the japanese animated cartoons feature always five main heroes/characters: Ronin Warriors (the main protagonist looked like Sylvian!!), Sailor Moon, Saint Seiya, a sort of Dragon Ball. Even the "original" Power Rangers from Japan are five!

  • i used to play this and orange juice , rip it up back to back. great songs

  • duran durna were a product of david bowie roxy music and chic...and also kraftwerk NOT japan.

  • MICK KARN now has stage 4 cancer, and URGENTLY needs donations which you can give at his website mickkarn.net.

He needs all the publicity he can get for this- SO DONT TAKE THE PISS BY SPAMMING THIS MESSAGE!!!

  • what a transformation: from glam to new wave

  • i still like them, good then and good now.

  • you gotta love rob dean!

  • What are you muppits on about ?Have you seen this band i have!!Japan got their inspiration from the new york doll(Sylvian got his name) and Bowie!

    Derrr!

  • even though I hit my peak as a "Marty pellow" looka like in the early 90s, I would have sold my sister to look like like david sylvian on the tin drum lp cover in the 80's. (Not my favourite youngest sister, obvously)

  • LOL

  • one of the best covers ever .jj7

  • Iremember seeing them at The Swan pub in Hammersmith must have been the late 70's they were great but there were only a handfull of people there. still remember that gig

  • indeed one of the greatest bands of all times, love the smoothness of this particular cover song...

  • David Sylvian brother at 1.10 is so lovely even now 20 odd years on

  • I love Japan so much... have all their albums... music for sophisticated people.

  • This is a great classic video. Duran wanted to be this band, but so weren't even in the ballpark as far as talent and originality! Japan was, and still is, a terrific band. Someday, I hope they get the credit they deserve.

  • This is such an amazing cover; its beautiful. Loved it then, love it now.

  • brinGs back some Good memories Great years

  • i {heart} JAPAN!

  • another one of those forgotten 80's clasics.. thanx for loading.

  • JAPAN still sounds great after all these years!

  • i think mick karn is so sexy , his looks cut throgh to your soul

  • He did in real live too, back in 1983 when I lived around the corner from him and met him (as well as David, Yuka, Steve and Richard) several times.... Orla was his bird then..

  • Wow, I haven't seen this video for years!!!! I had such a crush on David Sylvian as a teenager!!!

  • where do you think duran duran came from, bunch of tits.....

  • Japan had the good sense to break up while they were on top. No half-assed reunions here.

  • They're probably straighter than you

  • @2TWLankee Uh, Manchester? : )

  • @2TWLankee The only tits are those who constantly try to belittle Duran Duran and always compare them to Japan. Duran Duran have just released a brand new album which is produced by Mark Ronson and has garnered solid reviews from the likes of NME, Pop Matters, MOJO, The Guardian, Prefix Magazine and Rolling Stone - plus it's selling wonderfully, so cut them some slack. Just for the record, I like Duran Duran and Japan, but I just think it's silly to compare the two in such a childish fashion.

  • In that case I don't want no part

Well that that would only break my heart

Well if you feel like loving me

    If you got the notion

    I second that emotion

Well if you feel like loving me

    If you got the notion

    I second that emotion

  • nick rhodes and david are so similar :)

    Love them

  • But Rob Dean didn't do anything! Wow! I can understand why he left Japan. In the first two albums he defined the glam rock sound of this band.

  • Mick Karn was amazing on Bass,I have got his record album Titles, but i have just bought it on CD,as i have no record player!!

  • This was the first song i ever recorded when vhs videos first came out, then i was hooked! What a fantastic group.

  • its Mick karn, not Nick karn.

And Nick Rhodes copied David Sylvian, not the other way round.

  • Yes !!

Nick Rhodes take his look !!

  • not surprised to see you're still at it, what surprises me however is how much you bother with this band when you consider them a knockoff, pretty funny stuff that you go out of your way to reply to months old comments. I expect a classic gregingram "ohh you're stalking me" line followed by profanity and more hot head attitude because I looked at your profile and noticed almost ALL of your comments are about this band. Erm time to move on perhaps mr know it all?

  • let me remind you since you quickly forgot- you replied to me on numerous occasions in these comments with your classic phrases such as "thick twat" etc, does that mean you're a stalker then? You actually searched out comments I had written months ago to basically try to insult me but you're limited to the same tired old nonsense

  • such as- "Japan are roxy music ripoffs, Duran Duran are so much more original and have a career that's still going!, Planet Earth came out before Quiet Life!, etc etc" God forbid if anyone disagrees with you! Ohh I guess lots do judging by how unpopular your trolling comments are.

  • oh and greg incase you try to deny you don't know what you're talking about (since you did deny saying this once before) I came across this, it's under quiet life :) :

    gregingram1970 (1 year ago)

"but Planet Earth was released before this song. check the dates. besides, duran duran are more diverse in style than Japan but, i think Japan are class. I would say that DD have had a far bigger career than Japan could have hoped for."

  • Big hair,.. great band..

  • this what the early 1980s looked like? no wonder i missed it!

  • looks like nick rhodes of duran duran. excellent cover of smokey robinson's original composition.

  • Nick Karn is the man on bass

  • I remember watching this over and over when I was about 13 yrs old - fantastic

  • Very cool version of this song. Does Smokey know about this version? Wonder what he thinks of it?

  • listened many many times but first time to see the MTV. It's great!!!

  • wow

  • his hair is beautiful
