If I wasn't already married, I'd marry this guy! :) Good for him, great work. I wish he would have used some of the Garbage Patch bottles. Still---AWESOME!
''his goal is to one day float out to sea and eventually drift around the world on the island he build with his own two hands'' i clearly have no words for that! he build his own little land, unbelievable
@21centuryg actually have had the privilege to sit down and talk with this man the last 3 days! his island was destroyed but he has since rebuilt and it is in isla mujeres mexico! spectacular!
If some more (well, be honest..) kind of contreversial people john him, he could have like 5 tennis-coat-size island with 4 people living on it, or a fecking 20 man village town on it, in 20 years. I like his idea though x) but not enough to give up my family and home for it
He's built 2 islands, the first one was destroyed in 2005, not sure when this was recorded. The most recent was built in 2008. I wonder where all that plastic went from the first one?
@XxChRiSgOnNaPwNyAxX The point is everyone can do it, he just thought of doing so because it gave him advantages in daily life. I would personally not waste my money and time on something like this.
Entrepreneur Ben Way is undertaking an amazing project called Arc Island, a man made island capable of travelling the world which will hopefully grow to become a new civilization.
Be part of it! Go to kickstarter and donate. Yeah, it may seem ridiculous now but what if it does become something big? Then you can brag that you were one of the first investors.
won't the plastic bottles eventually deteriorate, because they are exposed to the sea water? I'm not sure, if they can sustain, that kind of usage. The Plastiki, boat by David Rothchild, his bottles are pressurized with co2, I think.
I will start to collect bottles from now on. damn, floating around mexico, growing marijuana on your own floating island, never have to work.. shit I was one of those now!!
@mafiaslicka it was destroyed in 2005 with hurricane emily, but the strong base of wood and mangrove roots kept the island in one piece but washed it ashore and he rebuilt it by 2007 so its back again! :D
Richie- Great way to reuse plastic bottles. WOW you've even weathered the tropical weather and hurricanes. Thanks for your inspiration. Keep after your dream. ionized water guide.com
i just wonder if the plywood is holding all the weight over a long period of time cuz once plywood comes in contact with water it changes ... but maybe the roots of the plants will make the whole construction real strong
@ch0colatemilk Living his dream could easily kill him and his animals, if he took that thing away from his protected lagoon... Any real storm would tear apart a tennis court sized float like this.
Even five foot wind chop would send his house into the drink.
that indeed would be awesome to link islands together to make one big floating country... but i have a feeling that some bodies government would get involved and try to tax it or govern it and just ruin the whole thing.
This is VERY cool! I think everyone should support his guy and give him all the empty bottles, so he can work on his "island". Eventually it would be so big and strong that no hurricane or big waves could hurt it. You could make it into a tropical paradise, plant everything you want to eat there and just enjoy :)
