To some of the posters about old haldex systems: they are not slow at all, they are very quick to engage, when watching the wheels you see them start turning at the same time, it looks like there is no delay (it's just too small). Newer systems are just a bit quicker.
Is the rear left wheel spinning? That would tell us if the haldex is engaged. If not, then something is broken. Apart from that, it appears there is no EDL and anti-spin on the front wheels, this makes a big difference on haldex cars, because lowering the speed of the front wheels, stops a rear spinning wheel too.
Their are dozens of youtube videos that show Volvo xc90s, xc70s, and v70 AWDs doing much better than this, including ones showing Volvos stopping on the side of very demanding steep hills, even muddy hills, and then climbing on up without a lot of effort. These videos are not hard to find--They totally contradict the conclusions some people are drawing from this video. I agree with VersaceVJC that something is broken on this Volvo.
Those of you who defends the Haldex-system don´t get it. It works perfectly fine as long as you´ve got some speed, when stuck in a hill like that (which kinda is why you want AWD in the first place) it FAILS.
If you search for it you will find hundreds of clips showing how the AWD-system fails in snow, sand, gravel hills and so on.
Audi (not the A3) quattro is the premium way to go! A REAL AWD-system with an (actually) intelligent system when you need it to be.
Old Haldex systems could be quite slow to realise the slip, keep burying the throttle and it will kick in - having said that the Torsen system is much better than Haldex.

@nenziehunden ja..vore intressant att se det....tycker det är ett klent system...har faktiskt med en volvo med visko tagit mig upp till ett utsiktstorn i 25 cm blötsnö med dåliga sommardäck...min haldex på octavian funkar genant dåligt...orolig i sidled även i låg fart är den också..visa gärna detta klipp!!!!enligt VAG fungerar min haldex...dagens system är halvtaskiga,och jag tar hellre högre bränsleförbrukning med ett riktigt system än denna haldex..!!!!
@nenziehunden haldex är skit..!!har en octavia 4¤4 som är osäker i snö,och orkar knappt några meter innan den ger upp..hade en Subaru 87:a som klarade sig fram,fast det var snö över hela fronten..octavian får stopp direkt i blötsnö också..går inte en meter!!..den går obetydligt bättre än en 2-hjulsdriven..dagens 4WD tar mer hänsyn till bränsleförbrukning,vilket resulterar att såna halvtaskiga 4WD-system som haldex kommer ut på marknaden!!

You probably have a faulty rear sensor, a worn out bevel gear or a bad propshaft connector. Otherwise it would work perfectly.
