  • Kanye West has never mattered to me and he means even less to me now.

  • Kanye in my eyes is the biggest piece of shit on this planet what a cocky son of a bitch douchebag, I hope he gets ran over by a concrete truck that fuck, NOBODY! makes musical genius and innovator Phil Lesh, stop his set. Who the fuck does Kanye think he is, dumb scunt. Phil Lesh has more talent in an atom located on his pinky, than Kanye will ever dream to have. Fuck that Taylor Swift business, Kanye should have made a public apology to Phil.

  • @spacemeddle Face it. To millions of kids Lesh is just a nobody old man, way past his prime. In 1970 did people btch that the Bealtes and the Dead got more attention than AL Jolson??? Face it. That was you are like - An Al Jolson fanatic in 1970 - refusing to listen to the Beatles, Dylan or the Stones because - "Al Jolson is the best, man"!

  • @RIchardEPfeifer who the fuck is Al Jolson

  • @spacemeddle I know you don't like the idea but guys like Fank Sinatra and Bing Crosby were gracious enough to get out of the way of the kids. ( Who would I prefer to listen to? Not KW! ) - but I can see the hippies have hogged the stage for 3 generations now - refused to get out of the way of my generation - now they 60 - 70 year old men and are not gracious enough to let today's kids do it!

  • when Phil joined with Jerry, Bob, and Bill to begin a band together...they of course needed a bass player...guess what Phil had never played bass but he was a highly trained musician - so he didnt have any of the preconceptions of how a bass fit in.... that's part of the reason he is so unique... he is also incredibly creative.

  • @jimaroo100 in reading his book right now and im learning a lot from it. Phil probably isnt the best(He is in my books) but he definetly innovated it because at the time there were few rock bass players that stood out. A great musician overall!

  • Follow your ears, Phil!!

  • my son calls anthing that is a dick move a "kanye!!!" lol

  • phil is my musical hero in so many ways

  • Probably the only video that has over 40k views and ZERO dislikes :)

  • Burning Man > Bonnaroo

  • @MrJas1991 Rainbow gathering > burning man

  • I was at bonnaroo one year, and Kanye didn't start until like three hours late because of some issue. I didn't go see him but I heard it was horrible.

  • wtf is this Kanye talk?

  • thats what I heard. for kanye. I don't see how anyone could have the nerve to kick one of the godfathers of the modern music scene off stage. complete BS. I will never go to Bonnaroo.

  • thats what I heard. for kanye. I don't see how anyone could have the nerve to kick one of the godfathers of the modern music scene off stage. complete BS.

  • i wish i would of see him wandering around at bonnaroo or anyother ppl woulod of been sick to see trey. i was 5 ft from fill getting off his bus at a further show. i dident no what to do lol but watch him walk away

  • Bonnaroo and most of these festivals today are mainly commercial plain and simple! It's just for making money, and has nothing to do with art or creativity. I mean fine! If you're talented, great! But to expect everything to blend in perfect harmony is absurd! Shit acts are thrown in with great acts! This is the reason you have kanye west and other no talent people share the stage with Phil and other truely talented artists! MONEY,MONEY,MONEY!!!!!!!!!!!!!! BE REAL!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @MrSharkey11 Merry Holidays friend.

  • kanye west is a major asshole! Yeah right his band wanted to do china cat>scarlet>the eleven with phil! How guilible can anyone be to believe that! It reminds me of the time years ago when this teenybopper told me he was going to put a honda engine into a harley frame! I told him: Why would anybody want to put a honda engine into a harley frame? LOL! I never forgot how fucking stupid that sounded! Phil is a good person, but he shouldn't suffer no talent fools as well as he does! Peace!

  • @MrSharkey11 dude don't talk about Kanye West on a Phil Lesh Interview...he's an idiot, and so are you for bringing him up

  • @daveducharme , I didn't bring up kanye west DUDE! Alot of other people brought him up which in turn caught my attention! If you read all the comments before you slung your ass over your shoulders you would understand why I mentioned him in the first place DUDE! Besides, the Phil Lesh interview is not the "Holy Grail" ! What were you,12 years old when Garcia died? I followed the Grateful Dead for over 25 years, from 69-95! So do me a favor and spare me your self rightous bullshit!

  • @MrSharkey11 Most people who dig Lesh have a life and would rather not waste it reading pointless back-threads to provoke pointless arguments.

  • @spreadneck7 , I agree with you 100% my friend, I never provoke useless arguments unless the statement is sooooo outrageous that it begs a response! And, I try to keep my response short, sweet and to the point! But, I must say, I appreciate your concern as to my quality of life, and your constructive critizisims of my responses! May you and yours have a great holiday, and a happy new year! Peace!

  • @daveducharme when a crapper like kanye west follows the great phil lesh it necessitates mentioning

  • Love you Phil :-)

  • You have to remember that Phil and the boys have been "at it" since the mid-60s. Nobody gets any younger........

  • See Phil Lesh @book signing tour in Walnut Creekon 4/20

  • Damn, he's getting old. I never really noticed it that much until watching this interview.

  • Phil is great

  • the dead were never great musicians, jerry even said that but when they were together IT WAS MAGIC AND NEVER WILL BE REPEATED!!!!

  • @mcdstuff Lol! And I heard Kanye was going to beatbox during their try on drums>space

  • is he being interviewed by a lesbian?

  • @mharrin5507 who cares if he was?

  • @mase5701

    go fuck yourself.

  • /watch?v=GBlXEGLXlV0

  • That's a lot of verbage to make one good point. Sorta like the GD's music?

  • Of course Phil likes dance, electronic music, jazz, etc. He was at the vanguard of electronic music. Listen to Sandstones!

  • seastones

  • phillesh likes mmj? hell yes <3

  • Wait, what happened with Kanye? How were Phil Lesh & Kanye even within the same radius?

  • great guy, and they did get dicked by kanye that year. they were really getting into a nice groove too. west is such a douche

  • i truly respect the guy, i mean hes a legend but really the music at the festival isnt very good at all, i also dont believe in his ideas hes expressing in this video

dance and electronic music sucks, and its for pussies

  • :) love it

  • I like Phil's take on these two ideas--the music 'hangs together' as American music and that the idea of a 'detour' informed the meanderings of the dead.

  • Happy Birthday, Phil!

  • @gtz1975

wish him a merry christmas too you twat LMAO

  • HAPPY BIRTHDAY, PHIL!

  • i love you phil!!!

  • kanye is garbage. His deal is mindless, talantless garbage. I can't even call it music. He's the posterboy for punks that need an ass kicking. Anyone with half a brain can rhyme a few words and hire people to put sounds resembling music in a computer. I say hire cause he's too stupid to do it himself.

  • i agree man!! all these rappers have NO talent. do all these little gangster wannabe's think that Kanye or any other rapper is going to be doing their no talent acts at the age of 70? Will their "group" last 4 decades???

  • @giottol17 i dont like kanye but he does actually make alot of his own beats and before he became famous he made beats for others like jay z and shit. i dont like hip hop its just a FYI. see you on phils side !!!

  • I hear ya bro. I just can't stand all the BS that

comes with the package. Just get up there and

play. I saw the Dead a lot of times and they would

get up there and just play. Humble , good guys.

No freak show, just playing because they loved the music

  • Man, he'll probably never play Bonnaroo again after he was made to get off the stage because of Kanye.

    Fuck Kanye

  • @HoDG3 what? explain that please

  • @HoDG3 what happened? at bonnaroo

  • @HoDG3 what are you talking about?? they kicked phil off for kanye?

  • @HoDG3 I don't think Phil is that high on himself

  • @JimmyPage97 its not the fact that hes not humble, he is very humble, but Kanye was being a huge bitch at bonnaroo 08. He made the bonnaroo crew, BUILD his band another stage so they would be on another level then him. FUCKING ASSHOLE

  • @pressplayllc yea I remember his performance was listed to start at like 11:00pm, but didn't start until like 1:00am.

  • @HoDG3 What happened with Kanye?

  • phil.

  • Phil seems like the nicest guy in rock & roll. I love the enthusiasm he puts into everything he does including speaking.

  • hmmm one of greatest bass players

  • @terrapinstation77 YES GOD BLESS HIM! Im Hoping To Find SOMEONE Who Can Make Me A Remake Of His Blue Modulus Bass With The Tunning Keys At The Bottom I LOVE HIM AND HIS BASSES

  • love u Phil, you rock

  • Phil, you are just FANTASTIC. See you on thursday at shoreline (again!)

  • Hahah! The Scenic Route

  • I actually saw him at the Bill Frisell set in 2006. I saw a group of people outside the tent locked arms with eachother for a photo. My girlfriend then said, "oh that's cute" or something, Then as I looked closer I said to her, "Oh my god that's Phil Lesh in the middle."

As the crowd dispersed i quickly shook his hand, "nice to meet you Phil!" He said, "good to meet you, man!" and he walked on. We followed him for a bit (from a distance), b/c we were both on our way to Buddy Guy - pretty cool!

  • for a guy in his 60's thats been playing music professionaly for over 40 years to still be this excited about hearing new music - very cool. You go Phil

  • Fuck that Phil.....it WAS noodling and you know it...

  • Yer but was it good noodling or bad noodling?! There IS a difference!

  • lol.... i guess you can say the dead took the scenic route. way to go phil.

  • What a G.

  • Alan Light is just awful. Phil is the best.

  • Phil always seems to be happy.

  • he's a bass player, if most people in the world played bass, the world would be a better place.

    he's also probably stinkin rich

  • Let Phil SHING!,,,,, I mean sing!

  • lolz

  • cool thanks. lesh is looking old tho'

  • yeah seinfeld is funny but the music bites.

  • Bands hit the high tide, when they

kept up with Phil's lines. Proof that good music means TASTE.

  • everyone has their musical preferences....

i happen to love phil lesh and entwhistle the original great bassmen, and i happen to hate "seinfeld Bass"!!

  • Haha, I think by now, anyone who watched tv in the 90s hates the Seinfeld bass.

  • mikekorz,

Just to let you know. The bass they are using on the Seinfeld theme is actually a keyboard playing a particular bass patch. A theme song for a comedy sitcom is just meant as a little intro for a 30 minute TV show. It isn't meant to listen to as a 5 to 10 minute song. it's just a musical snippet to evoke a particular emotion.

  • I'm glad to see Phil Lesh in such a good shape. The guy's been through a liver transplant, ans protatic cancer, for God's sake !

  • "No genre is more important than the other." That is an amazing point. People seem to be so close minded. All of us are.

  • @Alfrunk , Bullshit! Believe that and I'll tell you another! Are people brain dead? Yes they are in some cases! So let me get this straight, rap is just as important as jazz or classical? Or maybe just as important as the Dead's music, right? Phil was just being polite my friend! To take certain statements out of context,or to accept them literally is a major cause of human ignorance, and probably the cause of alot of human misery in the world. Peace!

  • @MrSharkey11 Bonnaroo = listen to this artist because we are selling pepsi through them

  • @75starsuck , Thank you! You're 100% right on that!

  • I love this guy.....he helped make my world a better place for many years....Thanks Phil!

  • I had the honor of seeing Phil and friends in 2001 down in NC. I'm not a huge fan of the jam band scene, but I would strongly recommend his book "searching for the sound." Great book, he is a real class act and it's a fun read!

  • you should read living with the dead a book by rock scully its a very intresting book i couldnt put it down

  • I JUST finished reading it. Stumbled upon it in a store and so grateful that I did. He IS a real class act, i thoroughly enjoyed it.

  • Phil is such a class act.... respectful, intelligent, and having seen him perform so many times with the Dead, and Phil&Friends... its sooo obvious how much he enjoys playing live music. God bless ya Phil !

  • i work with many ppl of Phil's generation..

I often forget that these old guys were possibly

as hip as Phil and his old friends were (are)...

But then again... NOBODY is as hip as Phil and his friends... I LOVE THIS GUY!! :-)

    Thanks for posting this!!

  • friends dont let friends do bonnaroo,...

  • greatest performance I ever heard was Primus at the 02 Bonnaroo. The best part about it though was when Adrian Belew came on.
