Went through an intense fan phase back in the day; never saw vids of him playing until this year on Youtube; somehow it makes it sound even more amazing, seeing what he's doing physically. holy s...t makes you want to play guitar, dunnit?
Wow, someone needs to brush up on their Roy Buchanan collection here... like just about everyone has said, this is RBC's version of Booker T's Green Onions and yes, the tone on that bass is gross.
I was luckey enough to have heard Roy jam many times. I grew up in Northern Virginia. The jail he hung himself at was the first jail I was ever detained at. Ironic. The sure could play that gutair. Another great one who is gone who resided in the Baltimore/Washington area, was Danny Gatton. Another great gutair player who died way too soon. Both are greatly missed.
Yeah no fucking shit you moron. You need to get the damn song title right.. For fucks sake, didn't this guy invent artificial harmonics??.. LOL, have some respect.
Roy is great. Too bad there don't seem to be any videos (except for the Austin City Limits ones) where he's playing with good musicians. Roy should've shot this bass player.
Is green onions,,,,,,,,for sure, I grew up down the street fro him and went to highschool with his kids,,,,,,,interested in a trgic great guitar players death? look up his story, impossible to hanng youself ing that room for a man his size......police killed his ass,,,,look it up.....so many years late I hate to dredge it up, especially if far the family....but anybody who cares about the man behind the tele he did not go out that way
It was filmed at Carnegie Hall and it's from a VHS video called "Further On Up the Road" with perfromances by Albert Collins and Lonnie Mack, also. And they all play together at the end. In between performances, there are comments about the three, from the likes of Robbie Robertson, David Holt and Kris Kristofferson. Needless to say it's a great video!!
Its the mIx. Teles are naturally thin sounding as you all know. The Bass is on top in this mix, and Roy is in the background. However not a bad track to play too when jamming along.
The Bass Player's actually decent... It's the Horrid, Too much Treble, seriously THIN tone that isn't workin' for this tune. The Band is backing Roy nicely... But... YEAH... The Bass players tone takes from this being a superior rendition of Green Onions by Roy... Still VERY GOOD though... Roy NAILS IT! As He Always Did!
Yeah, roys doing so well here (not like i've ever seen him do poorly - he was such a fantastic player!) but the bass almost makes it hard to listen/pay attention to roy
sorry boys.. but this is Roy's 'shitty tone' era. Once he went to Marshalls, his tone left the building. The best Roy tones were with the old silverface Vibrolux he used in the mid-70's. This tone here is just too middy, distorted all that ECHO... geez.. but it's a kickass Green Onions, no doubt!
@Noitpure Ahh .. the bass, its chokka blokka full of chorus pedal. Not the bass tone I go for first if I'm playing blues. Might work well else where. He also clips his notes through that effect.

The bassist even looks like a twat in that pale blue shirt jumping around.
Maybe Roys unbelievable talent just made the bassist sound shit cos i can't see how nobody pointed this out to the bassist

Is Roy playing through a Roland JC120 here?
wapzilla 2 years ago
@wapzilla He sure is and you can see it at 4:21. No big surprise I guess, I favor my JC-120 over my marshall stack in many instances.
