  • Hey Doug, Yea I am the one who took the picture, but, I was a few years off on the date. It was 1959 not 69. Chet was showing us his new Gretsch, the '59 model that became so famous. I was 16 years old and in total awe of this man. It was my first meeting with Chet and I was really impressed how humble and kind he was to a young kid who was learning to play. He ask me to play him a tune, but I was shaking so bad I'm sure I couldn't have wrote my name. Thanks for all your videos, I love'em all.

  • @bgdenham I saw Chet in '89. (On my birthday of that year!) Most memorable moment of my life. Even got to shake Mr Guitar's hand.

You took that photo in 59? Man, I was only four years old. Just a baby!

Chet was always know for his humbleness and kindness to others. Probably a big secret to his success! (Besides his incredible guitar ability!)

Anyway, I have been playing for about 44 years. I practice till my fingers feel like they want to fall off, but I am a thousand

  • @daffydoug miles from his incredible mastery.

  • Hey Doug, I didn't know if you knew where the picture came from. I took it in 1969 back stage at the Ryman. I took several pics, never could get Chester to smile. Just wasn't his thing I guess. When you can play a guitar like Chet you don't have to do anything else. LOL

  • @bgdenham Man, you are the guy who snapped the pic? I am truly pleased to meet you!

  • yep

  • When I was 14, my uncle and neighbor would finger pick at our house... playing all the Chet Atkins, Merle Travis tunes. In fact a guy who worked with my dad, Aubry Brown would come over and play too. He taught Merle Travis his first chords at about age 10. I learned guitar from the best there was .... and I'm grateful :)

  • @tim1824 sorry but merle did not learn from him, he learned from his dad, who was also a folk song singer

  • About six months ago....I was browsing YOU TUBE.....and then I came across the Great Chet Atkins and I listened...WOW.....He put an END to GOOD MUSIC....WHAT he put out was the BEST of the BEST.......it was like he could say.....: You've tried the rest....NOW TRY THE BEST." This is what good music is ALL ABOUT. "Ya hear?"

  • i have his record collection

  • That Guitar, a Gretch Country Gentleman, my uncle had since the 60's and he passed away early 90's I guess.. just found out his daughter sold it for rent money.. I wish I could kill her, you have no idea what that guitar goes for now, plus the memories of th at guitar in particular.. ..

  • @TheMemphisSlim damn dude they sell new ones for over 3,000 dollars i could imagine an original would be worth over 10 grand
