They became middle schools. Our main feeders were Southwest Junior High, Crystal Lake Junior High, and Lakeland Highlands Junior High. Junior high was 7th thru 9th grade. Elementary was K-6 and high school was 10-12. Junior high schools had football teams, just like high school, so we were able to go to football games, play in stands, and even march (a little) on the field. In the early nineties, they did away with the whole "jr high" concept and moved 9th to HS and 6th to MS.
There were playing rehearsals throughout the summer (not sure which nights) then 2 weeks of crank-up. There were some crank-up days that were 7:30am-11:30am, 1pm-3-pm, and 6pm-9pm. Yes, 10 hour days and yes, we had our share of kids passing out on the field. Then when school started, it was 2 to 3 hours on Mon and Thurs nights.
Not much has changed there its about the same now. were deffinitly not easy on us wich is is good Tenoroc(BOO!) only practices once a week and there not very good during our performance at a game a few weeks ago they had their jaw dropped O: when we play(:
Thanks! Marching MPA is this saturday @ WHHS at like 2 or 3pm were like the first to play we are normaly near the end but the harrison kids have a performance.
haha....i don't think the harrison kids would like that. Most of them are more interested in concert play. They are not considered LHS students, so I guess they have the choice. ???? Not sure the McKeel thing could work out either, but I think it's a super idea. :)
One thing that irritated me about this competition (besides marching on a baseball field) was the judges. They had field judges that would walk right up and look in your eyes to see if you flinched or if you were playing correctly.
We should get the band kids from Mckeel Academy(since they don't have a marching band) and have it manditory for the harrison kids to be in the LHS band
How sad that you feel that way. Remember, this was a marching competition and most of the audience members were bands who were very supportive of each other.
I hear it's supposed to rain saturday. Ick.

I guess what makes that amazing is, although we had only 10th-12th grade, our band was still that huge!

It was so much better when we had "junior high" bands that marched at their football games. They made great "feeder bands" for us.

Where are they playing?
tomcatf145 2 years ago
They open with "Hall of the Mountain King", park-n-blow "Boogie Down", drum feature "Shoshana" (sp?), ballad "You'll Never Walk Alone"
luvin40 2 years ago
"Shoshana" is it Shenandoah? if it is Wind Symphony played it at the Winter Concert.
