Sorry, my fellow metalheads. I listen Eluveitie exactly because they are NOT Nightwish. I hated this song, for its simply not Eluveitie. It's something made for the hit parade of MTV. Tut mir furchtbar leid lüt, aber "A rose for Epona" isch eifach nid Eluveitie.

My idealized Eluveitie doesn't segregate their songs to metal and acoustic albums, but instead delivers the whole range of music the group is capable of on each and every album. Looks like they might be moving that way!

People need to understand that this is a concept album. If you want the Eluveitie that wrote Spirit, listen to Spirit for fucksake it didn't go anywhere. Once you take a meaningful look at this song you uncover how intelligent and emotional it is. Who cares if the intro sounds similar, there's a shit ton of music being made everyday, and coincidences like that happen are common. I like the direction the band is taking, it's refreshing and tells a story to millions that otherwise would go untold.

Who knows how all their other songs are? I do agree with you, I hope they maintain the melodic death sound but the main focus should be folk. I like the powerful songs like Calling the Rain though. I've listened to this a few times but wasn't impressed. What set me off at first is they decided to go with English lyrics. Gaulish is so much more unique and sounds better imo. The other problem I have is the song, mostly the chorus, is far too pop-rock for my taste, lacking both metal and folk. The only part of this song that I thought was great was the intro melody, which is apparently not even original. I still love Eluveitie though and trust that the album will as a whole will succeed.
