Hi, I was wondering if you could tell me if this a typical scenario with compression using this method. I have just under 15 minutes of video which I have edited in Final Cut Pro. I shot with my 5D MKII in 1080 (30fps), and converted those files into ProRes422 for my edit. The video has no filters except for a fade in-out at beginning and end, and some small credits which I made in AE. My estimated time for compressing as of now is 7 hours to get this file under 2gb. Is this typical?
Hello - Im trying to get a video I edited thats ~12 mintues long into a HD file thats under 1Gb because I would like to upload to FB, i have uploaded it to youtube with an h.264 @5.96GB and continued to mess around in the export settings to get it lower but I cannot get it below ~2.4GB. Its shot in 720p @ 60fps, is there a good codec or settings I can use to keep it in full HD and get it under 1GB?
@TheKaeosm If you follow everything I explain in this video you should be able to do it. The most important thing is limiting the bit rate. I'd assume to somewhere around 3000-5000 Kbits/sec.
@DiCasaFilm Also When Im In Compressor And I Go To The Inspector Where It Says Video Encoder For The Selected Size i have 420 X 680 Do You Kno How I Can Change That?
Thanks for the tut! I was avoiding Compressor, and using Share > h.264 with Handbrake to compress my videos. I'm exporting my first reasonably-sized HD video now. Thanks!
Thanks steve, great vid! I shoot on the T2i. What are your thoughts... I just finished editing an interview and the final movie looks all choppy and is really not looking to good. Do you think it was because I shot in raw? How do you usually shoot? Should I shoot in a smaller format. If you check my channel, it's the milton miller, 100 days of madness video. Thanks man !!
hey i am trying to compress a raw .mov file into a smaller file. I used the compressing format you used in this video, and when I press submit, the submit button is grey and I cannot press it. Can you please help me?
@slushfilmz I'm sorry man, I've never heard of that problem. Try re-checking your settings and make sure you have the destination of your file set to some place that has enough disk space.
Still doesn't work man...thanks for the help. Also another question, is there a difference in quality of FCP's compressor and Compressor's compressor?
@slushfilmz That sucks, I don't know what to tell you. And that's a really good question. I honestly have no idea. I don't think it's a matter of one being better than the other - I think it's more of Compressor giving you more options and a more in-depth user interface. FCP won't tell you the estimated file size, FCP doesn't tell you how long until the compression is complete - just two examples. But when it comes to the actual compression I don't think there's a difference really.
