Now, this award show was in 1984, right? 1984 was a HUGE year for the Jackson family, as MJ was acquiring awards for the Thriller album from the previous year. Then the Pepsi Commercials and the Jacksons' Victory album/tour. Also, the SMASH Rockwell collabo (MJ & Jermaine). Latoya, Janet, and Rebbie all had R&B albums out then (if not later that year), and all scored hits on the Hot 100 that year, the biggest that year being Rebbie's "Centipede", which was a big Top 40 hit and Top 5 R&B single.

No offense but none of the other nominees were a competition to Michael Jackson. I mean, it is obvious. Michael was the only one with unique style and great talent. He was the complete package. Michael Jackson had such a character, that on 1:16 all that little kid is thinking "I wanna be like him when I grow up". It amazes me everyday, how one person can be so gifted but also noble at heart.
