  • "A lot of people will pay to see someone shut your mouth. So keep on bragging, keep on sassing and always be outrageous" George to Muhammed Ali

  • Wow! This is amazing! My mom was poking around on the computer and found this video! The Masked Marvel (Glenn H "Buddy" Knox) was her dad and wrestled all over the place! This is so cool to see my grandpa (whom I never met) wrestling in Seattle! Pretty cool!

  • only shit ,,and nowadays weve got hell in a cel...this is far more brutal!instead of a life guard there should be crocodiles

  • @rochedoxxx In the early days, wrestling was believed to be real. For the audience, this was like a crazier boxing match. They didn't have the interest in violence or the money to do anything like HIAC. Weird matches like these led to cage matches and ladder matches so show some respect.

  • REGISTER NOW, so you can VOTE in November and defeat that bum, Bararck Obama!

  • I like this match gimmick!!

  • Ali told me that this guy was a mentor..showmanship.

  • it's the like announcer had a list of every pun he had for the video lol

  • LOL! How awesome is that? Yeah there's nothing new under the sun, not even when it comes to the WWE!

  • LOL. A "Ring surrounded by water" match hitting with oars. Gimmick matches go back to way before the WWE.

Gorgeous George was the wrestler who took gimmicks far beyond what they had ever been before. Strutting into the ring with sequined robes, a valet and bleached blond hair. Buddy Rogers based his ring persona largely on George and Flair admits he idolized and copied Rogers. Flair is the ultimate outgrowrth of the Gorgeous George concept and traceable directly to George.

  • georgeous george is like a mix of ric flair and dashing cody rhodes

  • I've always had this gimmick match in the back of my mind but i never actually thought it had happened and that far back also.

  • @CPet92 Yeah I had this idea too but thought it was too farfetched even for wrestling but it was done before I was born. Rogers, DiBiase, Ali and the man himself, Flair derive from George. You might say that, in terms of wrestling gimmicks, Rogers was George's son and Flair his grand-son. Sequined jacket? Hair dyed blond? Valet? Pompous? Elitist? Cowardly villain? George started every last one of those gimmicks. You can't overestimate his significance to pro wrestling.

  • If this was Booker T vs R-Truth, we would have two more dead wrestlers on our hands... :/

  • LOL what kind of gimmick match is this?LMAO IN THE WATER WOW

  • Gorgeous George was living in ashford kent when i lived in 2000

  • Ric Flair is indeed the greatest ever but he wouldn't exist without this man. Gorgeous George is probably the earliest example of showmanship in the sporting arena. A large debt is due to this man.

  • In defense of Zach Wagner....Gorgeous George was in fact named George Wagner.

    -Scott Wagner

  • Yes I have a few autographed pictures of him my Aunt who adopted georgous george,,,,,Eula Wagner was her name,

  • @DonnaH1962 That is the most coolest thing in the wh world.

  • Gorgeous George was awesome enough said.

On a more personal note I would have loved to have been in a match like this.

  • what year is this from?

  • my grandfather was a wrestler and he used to do this same gimmick match :D

  • yo guys my name is zach wagner and he was my great grandfather and my grandfather is gorgous george jr. he is now a truck driver

  • I think gorgeous george is a classic. gorgeous needs him now he cant swim LOL. I think there in those days there was nobody that puts on a better show then gorgeous george.

  • wow his in the hall fame now hahah the guy was wrastling in 0:11

  • Is this the first gimmick match?

  • It'd be cool if the WWE did a match like that. Surround the ring with water. First person to get knocked out of the ring loses.

  • @Coen68 Oh wait you mean like Bash at the beach.....

  • @HordeFTL Well I've never actually seen a Bash at the Beach. Never really watched WCW so I really wouldn't know.

  • Didn't this happen at some of the Bash at the Beach PPVs?

  • Oh, man, I need to remember to register so I can vote in November. Thanks for the reminder, Hilarious Old Black-and-White Wrestling Footage.

  • Hey, Gorgeous George fans, great news. Announced today in a WWE press release and will also be announced tonight on Raw, the Gorgeous One will be a member of the 2010 WWE Hall of Fame class. His former wife, Betty Wagner, will accept the honor on his behalf.

  • suprised we haven't seen more of this type of match.

  • this is so fkn random lol

  • other ideas to stick his oar in?

    ok then

  • Why watch and comment on a video of something you consider fake and silly?

  • @MrDouglasfairbanks

Sports were people fight for real are all ether boring or totaly barberic. Frankly Id choose men in silly outfits play fighting over glorified thugs punching eachother annyday of the week.

  • what year was this from ?

  • Muchas Gracias Por Este Video, Gracias de nuevo por abrirnos las puertas a nosotros, los jovenes para poder apreciar a estos luchadores.

  • how could he have been a ric flair wanna be, when he was born before flair. it should be the other way around if anything

  • @hawkeystud Wow. Do you know anything?

  • my grandpa wreslter gorgeous george

  • @nick121215 If he's your grandpa, I'm Jesus Christ

  • @Mality OMG i just meet Gorgeous george grandson and jesus!

    Great day for me :D

  • @idontknow2yatube nobody laughed

  • @Mality It's the right vintage. My own great-grandmother was a great fan.

  • Yes, Muhammed Ali and also James Brown were heavily influenced by him and adored George

  • nice match

  • I bet the water messed up his hair pretty badly.

  • Anybody know what was the storyline behind this match? It seemed like an odd gimmick, especially for this time period.

  • I don't even think they did storylines back then.

  • Ali admits that a lot of his gimmik came from this guy!!

  • Gorgeous George 08!!!!!

  • Comment removed

  • He was ahead of his time.. muhammed Ali LOVED him..

  • this is true ali was already the louisville lip before he met georgous george but when they met at a radio station and he heard george ranting and raving about how he was gonna woop his opponent well ali kinda took it too another level arguably the most influential man in pro wrestling history

  • that was fucking depresing

  • Wrassling. LOL

  • That's amazing..

  • What a great clip, I've never seen before. In fact I have never seen the Human Orchid quite like this before, a little wilted.

As a kid, I got to meet Gorgeous George back stage after a match in Oakland about 1950. He was tired, but very nice to me and surprisingly soft spoken.

  • @pornguy2 That's cool!

  • there is a fat guy on pubic TV trying to be like Gorgeous geogre

  • @Adria20 Is this in Richmond, Va.?

  • classic stuff here

  • The Masked Marvel was from Montana? Not from "parts unknown"?

  • The Masked Marvel was from Montana? Not from "parts unknown"?

  • This is amazing, where did you find it? And what's the date?

  • Mr. Lifeguard should have turned heal and hit the Masked Marvel with a paddle.

  • That was great

  • Man, those forearm shots were stiff. Great video Madison.

  • Hell i never knew they would put a wrestling ring on water lol.

  • Shades of those great WVW shows on the water.

Ted Turner should never have caved to bad guy Vince.

  • BooBooLane---------it's WCW, mang. What wrong with you?

  • yeah nitro at club la vila in 1952 lol

  • Knowing, per ghostie.

  • I didn't know they had gimmick matches back then.

  • Mr. Life Guard is awesome!

  • good deal i like the old stuff
