when ya had to earn yer pins. technology has taken over. but the lanes and how they're oiled are tougher though. funny seeing pete and now he needs shades. lol. the lights haven't changed. looks like pdw had to move his feet left on the approach. he's my idol actually, not his persona but as a bowler. and deadeye is the best natural talented bowler i've ever seen.
It was fitting that the final match on ABC would be Pete Weber vs. Walter Ray Williams, Jr. No. 1 and 2 during that time. I watched and taped that telecast and was a very emotional one for Nelson Burton and Chris Schnekel as well being the farewell telecast for ABC.
I remember watching that show - the lane conditions were very demanding, and there wasn't much room for error either way - maybe a board each way. They were playing all over the place - in, out, in between, you name it - and it was just as tough in each spot.
Doug Kent threw a 158 in the semifinal, and Brian Voss tossed a 167 in the King of the Hill match.
Starting at 3:57 into the video, that is the perfect shot any bowler could ever want to throw into the pocket. Walter Ray is the best bowler of all time.

tough conditions, hall of fame opponent, and the pressure of winning the LAST show on ABC...it was a big deal, i remember it like it was yesterday.

These scores seem kind of low for pro bowlers.

Agreed - the scores were quite low that day.
