i disagree with you. i am not turkish either.i am Greek-American.i have been to turkey and istanbul is beautiful. but you see the major attractions on one side and then you see most people living under huge poverty. there are areas, that people don't even have real homes, and it's a pity. as for Greece it's not middle-eastern, and i have met many tourists. it's a mix mediteranenan country, with modern architecture, influenced by Italy in some islands.

Greeks look like Spanish, and a bit lighter. yeah there's some very dark Greeks that might look a bit middle eastern which is fine( they look good as well)maybe ur friend has met darker ones, but there's also light colored and blonde greeks, depending on the part of Greece that they come from. you couldn't know better than me, as i am half Greek. i half natural blonde friends or light brunettes with white skin. but yeah some Greeks look exotic, but as i said it depends.
