My Grandfather was a proud member of the Royal Pioneer Corps. Thank you so much for uploading this. He was always very private about his military life, but this song brings a bit of a lump to my throat.

when i was a pioneer for some twelve years i was called a grave digger blanket counter and of course the best one a chunkie but when our corps was asked to take over an infantry role and were retrained to infantry class standard the names seemed to stop ??in NI there were quit a few seniour officers who would only have pioneers as there close protection i was proud to be a chunkie and a royal pioneer

WHo were the pioneers. I read they were people not supposed to be fit ti join other units. Is this true? But whatever, this is a beautiful march.

Not sure if they are a unit that people unfit for other units go to, but pioneers are essentially combat engineers similar to sappers but with lighter engineering tasks.
