You should only use black pins (those with friction) otherwise will not work. Check instructions on my personal web site.

Awesome! I built it with gray (non-friction) pins and it just goes.. nuts.... I built it again with black, and mine are very fictional so it was pretty stable.

I have already made a video of the one with the frictionless pins (not uploaded yet, but you can find some nice photos of it on my personal site). Of course this will not work as a magic cube (goes nuts as you said) but it is an amazing and hard to solve "Nano Cube Puzzle"!
