  • Love this! So many thoughts and loving scenes rush through me when I listening to this. Mr. Cole will live forever.....

  • thankyou for this clip - its very interesting how Oscar does the piano work

  • Great Music!!

  • Some people should have never died.

Then again... wouldn't it be even sadder if he were around today, to see what has become of us?

  • im working on my hair to make it like nat king lol he used ALOT

of oill lol i hope it works

  • I was 13 when he died but he was from my community and graduated DuSable High School just as I did. We've always been proud of this lovely, classy man. You should hear what some of his high school partners had to say about him.....nice guy. Me? I think he's suave, the epitome of class and sophistication. Gone too soon.

  • Don´t forget that Nat was a great pianist too.

  • the piano work in this song reminds me of Mister Rogers Neighborhood.

  • LOT OF 26 Nat King Cole 33 LP VINYL ALBUMS!!!!! RARE!!! AUCTION ON EBAY ENDING SOON!!! CHECK IT OUT! Item number: 290490437459

  • That voice! Sumptuous and rich. Perfect pitch too.

  • Herb Ellis on guitar

  • I think the bass player ain't Ray Brown but Oscar Pettiford.

  • Just both class acts, Oscar Peterson & Nat King cole were the best of the best. Thanks for uploading.

  • i think this song deserves more subtlety from Peterson.

  • I remember my mom singing this song when I was young.

  • person who dont like or understond oscar peterson. has missed meny joy of life.

  • who are the musicians?

  • @kukanakamaoli

    Oscar Peterson - piano

    Ray Brown - bass

    Herb Hellis - guitar

  • @Tatane73 Man, I just had the good fortune of stumbling onto this video masterpiece. Peterson and Cole together. Don't get any better for sure. Especially with those great sidemen. What artistry! Thanks.

  • 超カッコいい。

  • @steeelydan

    Je suis d'accord !

  • @Tatane73 MDR !

  • simplemente hermoso.....

  • check blues etude from oscar if you think hes a side man

    hahahahah

    in your face!

  • Ye, PM290455. Oscar peterson is obviously withour a doubt one of the best (jazz) pianist ever. He stayed with Granz only due to the fact that he and Granz had a very close relationship and were realy close. And even to name JATP in a diminative way is just lame. The Oscar Peterson trio, certainly in their early years with Herb Ellis and Ray Brown, was one of the most swinging jazz trios ever around.

  • There is a beautiful version of Jobim's Wave on youtube. Someone comments that it is Oscar Peterson on that recording. It is very laid back. Very good listening, it is. This is a great listen, too.

  • Easily the best version of this song.

  • Had the pleasure of attending Oscar's memorial service in Toronto. A chance to be in the same room with any of them really.

  • During the ASCAP strike in the 40's, Nat recorded under the name "Sam Schmaltz."

  • Cool info - thanks. I love me some Sam Schmaltz! Vocal Master Extraordinaire!

  • that's something I've never heard and don't believe

  • Shall we dance, Miss A?

  • Yes please Mr. U!

    I miss you!

  • That's Ray Brown on bass. And with Oscar P. we're listening to the greatest musicians that ever existed, or in my mind, will ever exist.

  • Don't forget Herb Ellis...

  • Not really - they were just a part of the Norman Granz's team who was the only jazz manager during this period but Art Tatum, Ray Bryant, Nat and others are better than Oscar Peterson who is a a good sideman - not more.

    Best regards.

  • Good sideman - not more? You are completely brainless

  • No but when you are a little bit aware about the Jazz you know that Oscar Peterson is not a first class musician like James.P.Johnson, Fats Waller, Earl Hines, Art Tatum and other pioneers who have invented a style.

And his carreer is linked with the JATP of Norman Granz.

  • Oh ok - my mistake (!)

  • Not a first class musician ?

    Are you serious ?

  • @PM290455 Are you NUTS?????

Oscar Peterson is one of the BEST Piano Players since ever!!!

  • @PM290455

You sir, are an arrogant uninformed idiot. Oscar continued to delight people whom, unlike you, don't have ears of tin, long after Norman Granz had met his maker.

Where the hell did you get such a stupid idea from, and has anyone anywhere ever agreed with you?

  • @PM290455

And you hit the nail on the head when you referred to yourself as being "a little bit aware about the jazz" - little bit is dead right, you ignorant twat.

  • @camcoop25 Ignorant - poor boy!!! I listen jazz 12 hours per day and have seen a lot of jazzmen in concert - It's an essential element of my life - it was not a personnal attack against somebody just a conviction and recently I've seen a whole concert of Peterson on the TV (mezzo) to confirm that he is certainly a good musician (NAT choiced him) but there is a lot of pianists before his rank for me.

  • @PM290455

Do you actually play or are you just a fan? Lots of people watch reality TV 12 hours a day and it doesn't make them good judges of television programs. If you actually played piano, you might have a much better idea of what is and isn't innovative on the instrument.

You seem to believe that you are the only person on the forum who is a dedicated listener - hence your statement about "once you know a little bit about jazz" as if nobody else here knows as much as you do.

  • @PM290455 WHAT!!!!?????

  • @stromonie

letS not be hasty The legendary Johnny Costa was Fred's musical director till 1996 He was cristened the white Art Tatum by Tatum himself.

  • Be nice; everyone is entitled to their opinion. Now my opinion, Nat kicks ass! Slays always, best voice ever. And sang it So Tenderly.

  • PM290455: When you are "a little bit aware about the Jazz" you will not dare call Oscar Peterson a sideman and nothing more. Please avoid making such sweeping, derisive comments about this music, especially out of ignorance.

  • @PM290455

Wow, that is the 1st time I ever heard that!

  • Nat King Cole I miss you.

  • oscar peterson had a great voice too .........he sounded like .........nat king cole..........are there any clips of him singing

  • I heard that Nat Cole once proposed to Peterson, "You don't sing and I won't play piano." And Nat was one of the BEST jazz pianists, forgotten by folks when he hit it big in the pop field. OP formed his trio in conscious imitation of the King Cole trio of the 40s.

  • And his first guitarist in the USA was Irving Ashby, who also played in the Nat King Cole Trio

  • so beatifull, peterson + cole - two legens!

  • He was originally a piano player but one evening the singer did not show up and the rest is history.

    Thanks for the posting.

  • i love this man! i wish i could have met him!

  • put a smile ;) on this face.. !

  • The greatest voice to ever sing this song.

I love Rosemary Clooney, but Cole sang this very difficult song so effortlessly it's breathtaking.

  • meravigliosi......

  • wow, this guy almost sounds as good as me! (i wish)

  • Is it possible to know how you sounds ?...

  • Hey ecapital46, ditto

  • vladimir horowitz!

  • Me encaaaaaaaaaaaaaaanta ^^

  • Five Stars - awesome and thank you for posting this video.

  • Glad they put these out, they keep removing George Shering videos, and Oscar's popularity keeps snowballing.

  • That's Oscar Peterson on piano, Ray Brown on Bass and Herb Ellis on guitar.

  • herb ellis? damn hes like young

  • who is playing the piano?

  • LOL

  • ty :)

  • very interesting! How two great artists can show their own indivisual character but perform together!!

  • Man what I wouldn't give to have a recording of this show on either CD or DVD because this is pure magic =) Thanks a LOT for posting

  • Simply BEAUTIFUL, always a privilege to see and hear great artists preform together.

  • Ich liebe dieses Lied, es erinnert mich an meine Kindheit, an schoene und friedliche

    Zeiten! So tenderly!

  • Quite Simply amazing;this was taken from the Nat King Cole shows from the 1950s. The velvet voice king of song and the geat Oscar Peterson; what a combination

  • Quite Simply amazing;this was taken from the Nat King Cole shows from the 1950s. The velvet voice king of song and the geat Oscar Peterson; what a combination

  • so beautiful. what a voice. makes me happy and to want to cry at the same time. thank you.

  • It's called music :]

  • Un binomio irrepetibile Peterson-Cole.

Inoltre Tenderly è uno dei più bei brani mai scritti.

  • Actually, I once heard a recording where Peterson sang, and at first I thought it was Nat King Cole!

  • Two jazz icons performing together...priceless. Thank goodness for recorded videos of these fine musicians. Thanks for posting!

  • Excellent.

  • I love these two together! Wow, they are music greats! I first saw this on a tv special called Nat "King" Cole: When I fall in love. So beautiful.

  • Is this one of the best songs ever or was he just the best and everything sounded better cause he sang it?

  • A little from column A and a little from column B :-)

The dop wop group The Flamingos did an incredible version of this beautiful song too.

  • Oh very much both. The song is immortal and and the voice unforgettable. A perfect pairing of a nostalgic lyric with such a sensuous voice.

  • An absolute classic - thank you for making my day and my horrible week - sick, etc.

    Mille mercis

  • Legendary giant musicians!

  • what a fantastic clip.four of the greatest musicians bar none.checkout "Nat King Cole Sings /George Shearing Plays for more of this wonderful singer

  • The greatest jazzsinger ever and the greatest pianist ever..

Nat and Oscar just simply blow me away with this peace as a gust of wind blows the autumn leaves aside..

    Beautiful!

Rest in Harmony Oscar Peterson (1925-Dec.23,2007)

  • Don't know that I would rate Oscar above Tatum or Powell.

  • Quite possibly one of the best voices to ever sing music.

  • FROM BRAZIL WITH LOVE, NAT.

  • The Man is awesome still, and there is nobody who comes close to his kind of style and sophistication and musicality!!! The Trio is smokin...and this is the kind of piano that Nat played as well. This is beautiful. Check out his diction!

  • His low, smoky voice is like a tenderly caressing breeze through the corridors of the mind.

  • Very nice comment !

  • i'm dreaming?

  • soooo tenderly nat king cole...

  • absolute soup

  • Lovely! He had style and soul.

  • sweet
