Wow.. Nice, I love this guy .. first bass player I see to nail that Pat Metheny feel and sound, (being Pat one of my biggest influences although I'm a bass player) . My respects for this Janek..
It's alot of great bass players but this has been my favorite since the first I've seen on the micheal Jackson tribute. It's like wow the voicing out and bass theory is amazing and its just a groove crazy
@nerdlinger92 I rekon because this is simply the best groove out there now. I play keys and I'm gonna learn it for keys as soon as I get the time. Perfect for a jam session
i think jaco would probably shit his pants if he jammed with janek, but janek would shit his pants if he jammed with jaco, lots of dirty pants with those two
@catalystdrums123 Jaco was literally a million times better than Janek and Janek would be the first to say so, and whether that's actually true or not, Jaco didn't have good things to say about cats like Ray Brown, so he def wouldn't about cats who're just evolutions on his style
@stragbass better is really subjective. I think Jaco was more original for sure, but technically and musically speaking it would be really hard to say. But you're probably right, Jaco wouldn't give a shit about jamming with a bassist like Janek, but I like pretending they'd have a great time talking shop and jamming together.
@stragbass its a silly thing to speculate on. There is no specific criteria or grading scale for music. Its more subjective. i believe to a certain degree yes u can say a certain musician is better than an other, but at the professional level that those guys are at its not that easy.
Jaco reinvented the electric bass. He was a gifted composer, all these young musicians are his followers...He wouldn't shit his pants. He was already way ahead...
janek is the man. he was doing a residency at The Collective school of music when i was there, i got to jam with him... an incredible player, and a great guy too.
Instead of B string it has an "E" as the lowest string then it goes up to a "C" string. Garrison does that too I think, and Wooten has also. It lets you do chords and melodies. It the same as a six string bass, without a low string.

fine, he can hold a bass, play a bass, but rather than play in bass register, he chooses to play all his lines up the neck in guitar range. that's not 'bass' to me. that's just me. for me, his solo is like taking the meat out of a burger and only eating the bread and sauce. no substance. anyways that's just me :-)
never had a tomato sandwich before? bro, its just more harmonicly pleasing to hear the melody in the upper register, especially when there's a phat groove layed down underneath
dude, why are you SO conservative about this kind of bassplaying. if people were as conservative as you we were still making percussive sounds with our mouths.
Any decent music store should either have them in stock or be able to order it in for you. There are tons out there to choose from, but try out a Boss Loop Station, RC-2 or RC-20, for starters.

every time the same groove ,the same patern's ,the same scale, what shit have in the mind all moderns bass player's????? sindrome of falid guitar player's????
One of the things I dig about Janek, is that while he has chops for days (he really does - check out some of his other vids) he chooses to put groove, melody, and the spirit of improvisation first. I am in no way saying that choppy players are not putting it this way, just that I dig Janek's approach. Anyone questioning his humility stop on by his forum on Talkbass, where he takes time out of a hectic schedule to answer all kinds of questions and converse with members of the board there. respect
Janek is a weirdo. He sent me 8 messages in 1 hour and was ranting like a mad fucking dog. All coz i mentioned that some guitar player lacked harmony - this was on another post nothing to do with Janek. He's fucked up. i kept the messages and had to report him to YouTube for abuse. What an asshole.

ChildofDust6969 2 years ago
You cant really tune a B up to an E (without snapping your neck or breaking the string) or down to an E without it being all floppy and unplayable.
Everyone I have seen do it replaces the B string with an E from a 4 string and just goes up from there.
