  • That's a nice coffee table he's playing!

  • Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm!na waoooooooooooo!u be to much,God bless

  • Is the second part of this video some of his songs or it's just an improvisation?

    Anyone knows?

  • Jaco reinvented the electric bass. He was a gifted composer, all these young musicians are his followers...He wouldn't shit his pants. He was already way ahead...

  • @somiberico you never know maybe Jaco shat is pants at the slightest excitement

  • Jaco reinvented the electric bass. He was a gifted composer, all these young musicians are his followers...He wouldn't shit his pants. He was already way ahead...

  • He's great. Even his surname is great. In a free translation it means "she was whistling".

  • so great. i'm a big fan of this voice. reminds me of tal, not to mention jaco, but i don't i have to lol :)

  • Gotta add though, he's got his own thing going on as a performer... didn't mean he's just a good copy cat..

  • Wow.. Nice, I love this guy .. first bass player I see to nail that Pat Metheny feel and sound, (being Pat one of my biggest influences although I'm a bass player) . My respects for this Janek..

  • his tone and some of licks sound like matthew garrison. I he's got some groove

  • It's alot of great bass players but this has been my favorite since the first I've seen on the micheal Jackson tribute. It's like wow the voicing out and bass theory is amazing and its just a groove crazy

  • check this out....all on a five string.

  • What kind of bass is that he's playing i've seen it before with micheal manning but i don't know the brand

  • @Skidhblanir It's a Fodera

  • Beautiful.

  • Janek is too dope... this ain't half of what he's capable of...

  • Groovy though the crowd seems a bit distracting

  • THANKYEWGASPELCHAPS!!

  • why don't videos like this have way more views???

  • @freddyadu2nd1 most people in the world are not like us lol

  • this video seriously made me question my sexuality, cuz it gave me boner

  • @leeema If you're female, I suggest you see a doctor

  • I love the way there are loads of videos of this exact solo taken by loads of different people

  • @nerdlinger92 I rekon because this is simply the best groove out there now. I play keys and I'm gonna learn it for keys as soon as I get the time. Perfect for a jam session

  • esta bueno pero ya es el cuarto video que lo veo tocando exactamene lo mismo...

  • Janek is Groove......Deep in Groove-on point and outa sight aaaaaiiiighttt!

    Noooooicceee Chops

  • Janek's got groove for days man

  • groovin´baby! niceone!

  • love his style

  • Does anyone know if Janek's bass is strung standard (GDAEB) or with a high C (CGDAE)?

  • CGDAE for sure.

  • it's strung eadgc

  • For future reference, the letters are traditionally arranged the other way: EADGC

  • Okay, thanks!

  • @Asgard222 i think he uses the high c..

  • What is this dude on, Man? He plays so well, but bemolable has a point. Hadrien is one bad brother.

  • He has the illest bass face ever.

  • TC Electronics <== Nice, eh?

  • yeah that sounds like metheny big time

  • this dude is sick..He got that Jaco soul/vibe

  • i think jaco would probably shit his pants if he jammed with janek, but janek would shit his pants if he jammed with jaco, lots of dirty pants with those two

  • haaaaa,lol...yeah

  • jajaa what about Hadrien Feraud and your guy ( Janek ) ?

  • they played a couple tunes together on gospel chops bass sessionz. it was sick

  • Yes, I know. Hadrien Killed all of them

  • Love your comment...lol

  • @catalystdrums123 Jaco was literally a million times better than Janek and Janek would be the first to say so, and whether that's actually true or not, Jaco didn't have good things to say about cats like Ray Brown, so he def wouldn't about cats who're just evolutions on his style

  • @stragbass better is really subjective. I think Jaco was more original for sure, but technically and musically speaking it would be really hard to say. But you're probably right, Jaco wouldn't give a shit about jamming with a bassist like Janek, but I like pretending they'd have a great time talking shop and jamming together.

  • @catalystdrums123 Very well stated, I agree, sorry I was a little trollish there, and it would be fun to imagine them together.

  • @stragbass its a silly thing to speculate on. There is no specific criteria or grading scale for music. Its more subjective. i believe to a certain degree yes u can say a certain musician is better than an other, but at the professional level that those guys are at its not that easy.

  • Bass Metheny :)

  • word i agree i've pat metheny play live... O.D

  • Just read his article in bass mag

    this guy is reallly interesting

  • He kind of reminds me lf Pattitucci. Both are great fusion players.

  • amazing melodies-love the E-C tuning

  • he's the only bass player there right? isnt he using a loop thing?

  • That's right.

  • Janek, a creative super bassist. Top 5 in the world imho

  • Agreed. Beautiful player!

  • janek is the man. he was doing a residency at The Collective school of music when i was there, i got to jam with him... an incredible player, and a great guy too.

  • He has nice melodic ideas - definite Pat Metheny influence. Cool to hear some of those licks on the bass!

  • Metheny is the DEAL!!

  • is this a metheny original? didnt know. i know hes a big fan of him.

  • Nope, this is Janek's tune called "Four Brothers".

  • I like him !!

  • Awesome bass player, and a good song writer

  • what bass is he using? Its beautiful

  • fodera i think

  • Yes, a Fodera 5 string with the extra string on top, a high C instead of a low B.

It better be beautiful, its about $5-8,000 bass probably (or more).

  • i thought he just tuned the b to an e and so on like eadgc

  • yes. Thats what I said. ;)

Instead of B string it has an "E" as the lowest string then it goes up to a "C" string. Garrison does that too I think, and Wooten has also. It lets you do chords and melodies. It the same as a six string bass, without a low string.

  • do u know if thats an e string or a b string tuned to e and so on?

  • You cant really tune a B up to an E (without snapping your neck or breaking the string) or down to an E without it being all floppy and unplayable.

Everyone I have seen do it replaces the B string with an E from a 4 string and just goes up from there.

  • Yes, that's the way I have my fiver set up.

  • 10 000

  • he stole some of whams dance moves!

  • Total Pat Metheny phrasiology. Cool Janek!!!

  • Super phrasing bass solo!

  • WOW! i found my new hero!

  • no hes still a bass player

  • oh, what's that he's holding then? A bass...

  • dude-hes totaly still a bass player

  • never had a tomato sandwich before? bro, its just more harmonicly pleasing to hear the melody in the upper register, especially when there's a phat groove layed down underneath

  • Just like Jaco, right?

  • yeah m8 i agree,Attention all bass players just play root & 5th on your E strings & ignore everything Jaco taught us !!!

  • dude, why are you SO conservative about this kind of bassplaying. if people were as conservative as you we were still making percussive sounds with our mouths.

  • He probably played the bass on the backing track anyways.

  • where can i get a sample thing like that he's playing too?

  • Any decent music store should either have them in stock or be able to order it in for you. There are tons out there to choose from, but try out a Boss Loop Station, RC-2 or RC-20, for starters.

  • I saw Janek play the jazz bar in Edinburgh a couple of weeks ago, and i must say by the far the best bass player I've ever seen. keep up the good work

  • hi, i'm roberta from italy.i was in edinburgh on April 12th!! yes you're right,he's great!!

  • what is that bass beat that he's playing too and where can i get those type of beats for bass and drums so i can jam too?

  • He's playing to a loop made just before the video kicks in - bass notes and muted hits for the "snare" sound.

  • carajo que buena frase tiene este pana, 1.57-2.08 jajaja me gusto eso de chord melody

  • truly great player. could work on his dancing a little bit tho.

  • One of my favourites ever. He plays so musically. Pleasure to watch such videos on youtube.

  • if u work on the little thing like techn.. and scaling .which he has .that what turns a good bassist to a great bassist

  • This is a great groove, great musician! Music is all about groove, speed and showmanship are just details.

  • He's not just a great bassist, but also a great musician! You can hear it in every note he plays!

I don't know what some folks think they're hearing, but there's a good reason why this guy is getting an international rep for his playing..he's actually very good!

  • Yeah!

  • i just love the way he voices his self through his solos..luvin that highC man gives it that ill craze vibe..gr8 vid

  • One of the things I dig about Janek, is that while he has chops for days (he really does - check out some of his other vids) he chooses to put groove, melody, and the spirit of improvisation first. I am in no way saying that choppy players are not putting it this way, just that I dig Janek's approach. Anyone questioning his humility stop on by his forum on Talkbass, where he takes time out of a hectic schedule to answer all kinds of questions and converse with members of the board there. respect

  • Stop the hating, Janek plays his ass off and kills it every time he touches the instrument.

  • SMOOTH!!! loved it=)

  • LOL

  • i sat down and told myself that i was going to learn at least half the first solo tonight...but i somehow managed to forget how much of a beast this dude is. MY OH MY!

  • This cat is killin! That's the point. Justin is dope too. Played with him a few weeks ago. But one cat being dope shouldn't take away from anyone else's thing. Great is great. Thanks, Gerald, for posting this and other "non-Gospel_ stuff to help broaden people's view.

  • i agree...j.raines is mega dope! and also...why is he on gospel chops? dont u have 2 b a gospel musician to be on there?

  • Who told you that? That is ridiculous.

  • i'm just asking...most of the musicians i see on there are...and its called gospel chops...

  • yeah, i had the same impression for a while. I get the feeling that it is more so musical chops that can be used in gospel music (or any other genre for that matter).

A lot of heavyweight musicians play in church...but a lot of influential heavyweights do not.

but yo, gc person: what do you expect people to think with a name like gospelchops?

what if i started muslimchops? Wouldn't it be weird to have some pork eating dudes teaching bass on muslimchops? LOL...i'm just sayin!

  • yeah lol good point, but i think they're referring to gospel more as a genre rather than religion. muslim chops ha!

  • oh - the other thing is the logo on your website. There's a picture of a dude holding drum sticks and a bible. I mean...i guess it's possible that a business would brand itself as GOSPEL chops (gospel = good news of Jesus Christ) and have dudes pose for pics with the authoritative word of the one true and living God and expect their customers to think that they are running a business that is purely secular in nature...

i'm gonna buy bass sessions, but i also think you should change your name

  • i dont understand your statement, whats wrong w/ their logo?

  • Just curious. What do gospel players think about Hadrien Feraud or Matt Garrison? I think this is good and Justin my dawg but Hadrien and Matt they come from a different place...it seems. I somewhat agree with LLroom at this level its hard to compare but I think some people def stand out.

  • OMG!!! It's just too nasty!!

What a solo, very musical and on top of this, it's groovy!

  • Janek is great. Love his musicality.

  • how could anyone have any disrespect for this dude AT ALL? apparently haters have trouble recognizing skills when its presented to them.

  • Is he polish ?? or just only american emigrated years ago. he has very polish name. Janek & Gwizdala

  • he is originally british but came over here to go to school. his name does sound polish tho dont it? haha

  • sorry people but justin raines is the man

  • can't compare once you're in this category of musicianship. Once you're up here, it's all a matter of personal preference, not objective truth about skill.

Compared to Justin, i'm a TERRIBLE bass player. Compared to Justin, Janek is comparable.

Justin Raines is a beast and my favorite bass player tho.

  • i luv it!

  • I agree...

  • no need to hate people, i thought u subscribed to "GospelChops!?" not "HaterChops" He may not be the best but he aint bad. Whether he's humble or not I don't know but that's besides the point, SUPPORT who u have subscribed too! DON't HAYT

  • Charlee Vee... you're crazy dude! Janek's an amazing player.. no tricks, just some advanced harmony and groove. He's got a world of respect coming from my side!

  • You crazy dude. You ain't listening. This dude can play. Check out his stuff properly before you go givin' it off. Seriously!

  • get his album "mystery to me-live in new york"

  • Oh...you must not know this song. It's called "Where's the Bathroom?? I Really Need To Pee!!"

Seriously, he might not be Fred Hammond, but he's better than most bass players I know. I'm just trying to figure out what this has to do with Gospel Music. PRAISE GOD!!!

  • uoooooooo!!!! Amazing!!!

  • OMG....

  • Oh, that`s great!
