Do you ever feel a disparage between your midi mock ups and the eventual orchestration for real instruments? Such as in the video of the heroic theme on your webpage? Certain things will work in a midi environment that don't sound quite right with a live orchestra, namely the horns near the end of that video... Do you find this to be a common issue?
This was like a college course in composing/arranging. I can't think you enough for the inside look at this process. What really jumps out at me is (once you take it apart), how simple the individual parts are.
That last change with the trombone made a lot of difference. Great tip. Would love to see more of these kind of movies, with hints and tips, coming up. Cheers.
Muy lindos los sonidos. Falta una idea original en su composición. Suena muy común y muy usado desde la década de los 80. Parece un ejercicio de armonía con muy buenos sonidos vst. Saludos.
Brilliant stuff. I've been looking all over the internet for such videos and I finally found it. Thanks so much. Could you tell us a bit about the gear we're seeing on the screen(keyboard, controller for automation, the desk itself!)? Also, how did you configure your DAW to respond to both the Midi controllers? It'd be great to watch a 9 minute video on some orchestration techniques by you could spare the time :-)
I'm a filmcomposer from Germany. Love your editorials!!! I'm working with DP as well and find it really inspiring to see how fast and intuitive you work with it.

could someone tell me if i can get the same sort of set up with nuendo or cubase? i mean: using "Bidule" and playing/recording "live" all the different part of the orchestra on keyboard like Mike does. I have a pc, this is why i ask. (sorry, i'm really low tech)
If you man on a windows platform, I think the best thing you can do is get Vienna Ensemble 2 (which comes free with about anything you buy from them, incl download libraries) and that runs as 'local host' and you open in in Cubase as a vsti instance. there are video tutorials at VSL...
great job...great videos! couple questions for you:) what kind of mixer / controller you have on your desk and what are you using it for except volume??
The horns are VSL Epic Horns. I'm not sure if or how VSL has integrated them into their Vienna Instruments libraries, but I have them in the Horizon Series for Giga, and it is spectacular!
Yeah, I was planning on adding it on in a few months time. The sound seems fantastic. It's unfortunate there's such a lack of videos about the library.
And man, I am so jealous of the hardware. ;) Keep up the good work. Thanks for the fast reply.
So what library are the muted strings from? I see you have it labeled "BIG."

Two questions: can I use any of the cinisample with the Kontakt player? Also does DP7 use vsts?
skilla4hire 1 year ago
@skilla4hire
DP7 is Mac OSX only and uses Audio Units.
You can use Ni Kore, Bidule, and I would guess the VSL host as well to host any VSTs you own that don't have AU versions.

Hi, that's one huge template and it looks really effective!
I'm wondering if you're using any reverberation while composing (like in this video) or if it's just the release times set high?
Thank you :)

Hey man, love your vids. What's your opinion of Symphobia? I'm picking up EWQLSO Platinum in a couple of weeks, but I've got Symphobia in my sights.
Also, your template is insane, and you kind of explain it in your Bidule video, but what are your hardware specs to let you get away with that?
TopAce13 3 years ago
Symphobia is fantastic. But don't get it in place of EWQLSO. Get it in addition to it.
I have a Mac Pro 8-core 2.8ghz 8GB ram
