  • So what library are the muted strings from? I see you have it labeled "BIG."

  • great video!

so you dont have any slave pcs at all?

  • How much does all of that stuff cost?

  • Do you ever feel a disparage between your midi mock ups and the eventual orchestration for real instruments? Such as in the video of the heroic theme on your webpage? Certain things will work in a midi environment that don't sound quite right with a live orchestra, namely the horns near the end of that video... Do you find this to be a common issue?

  • That's so cool how you just click one button and an entire library loads up in a split second! O___O

  • @ThomasVoMusic

he must have a shitload of RAM

  • Hi,

what kind of CC are using on Symphobia Strings at the start of the video ?... i mean CC number, thank you very much!!!! :)

  • Im so glad I ran into this video. Thank you so much!

  • This was like a college course in composing/arranging. I can't think you enough for the inside look at this process. What really jumps out at me is (once you take it apart), how simple the individual parts are.

  • That last change with the trombone made a lot of difference. Great tip. Would love to see more of these kind of movies, with hints and tips, coming up. Cheers.

  • Does this program work with Finale MusicPrint or other notation programs?

  • Muy lindos los sonidos. Falta una idea original en su composición. Suena muy común y muy usado desde la década de los 80. Parece un ejercicio de armonía con muy buenos sonidos vst. Saludos.

  • What is the library called BIG ? Very nice sound

  • hmm this is inspiring.

what midi controller are you using?

  • Two questions: can I use any of the cinisample with the Kontakt player? Also does DP7 use vsts?

  • @skilla4hire

DP7 is Mac OSX only and uses Audio Units.

You can use Ni Kore, Bidule, and I would guess the VSL host as well to host any VSTs you own that don't have AU versions.

  • beautiful.. @4:58

  • beautiful..

  • Hi, that's one huge template and it looks really effective!

I'm wondering if you're using any reverberation while composing (like in this video) or if it's just the release times set high?

    Thank you :)

  • If you have time you could listen to my compositions! Thanks.

  • When do you do velocity crossfade versus volume control versus doing both at the same time?

  • I really love the music ur awesome with this stuff too ...

  • Brilliant stuff. I've been looking all over the internet for such videos and I finally found it. Thanks so much. Could you tell us a bit about the gear we're seeing on the screen(keyboard, controller for automation, the desk itself!)? Also, how did you configure your DAW to respond to both the Midi controllers? It'd be great to watch a 9 minute video on some orchestration techniques by you could spare the time :-)

Great work, keep it up and thanks for your time!

  • Hey, What gears you use?

  • Hi, I just have to ask: What midi controller you have there on your desk? =)

  • All those instruments loaded up don't use CPU unless you play them?

  • LOL "No, we don't need choir... stupid..."

  • Hey Mike!

I 'm a filmcomposer from Germany. Love your editorials!!! I'm working with DP as well and find it really inspiring to see how fast and intuitive you work with it.

    Great stuff! Thxs for sharing!

  • mdr 7506's

  • Hey Mike! Great videos! What piano vst are you using here?

  • I love all your videos and thank you for explaining so well.....can you recommend a good book for midi orchestration

  • that was good

  • wow those are some amazing patches. What library would you recommend for orchestral sounds?

  • What samples software would you recommend for the best strings?

  • The 4 Monster Libraries

    EW QL Symphonic Orchestra

    Miroslav Philarmonica

    Viena Symphonic Strings

    EWQL Hollywood Strings

  • Great Video.

  • I would also love to know what the BIG muted strings library is. :)

  • Gerat music !

I was wondering what is the vst that you called "BIG" ? :)

    Thanks for advance

(sorry for my english I'm french)

  • what do you use for mastering, limiting and compressor etc because this sounds excellent

  • Sounds like the Oxford Limmiter

  • Keep posting these videos are awesome. Thanks for sharing.

  • awesome

what vst plugins did you use?

i see east west there, i think

  • man your soundbank is killer

  • great composition 5

  • Thanks a lot for sharing chief.

  • Thanks for sharing this is fabulous. I too would love to know what the Big Muted strings patch is from.

  • great videos and music, thanks a lot for posting.

could someone tell me if i can get the same sort of set up with nuendo or cubase? i mean: using "Bidule" and playing/recording "live" all the different part of the orchestra on keyboard like Mike does. I have a pc, this is why i ask. (sorry, i'm really low tech)

    Thanks

  • If you man on a windows platform, I think the best thing you can do is get Vienna Ensemble 2 (which comes free with about anything you buy from them, incl download libraries) and that runs as 'local host' and you open in in Cubase as a vsti instance. there are video tutorials at VSL...

  • great job...great videos! couple questions for you:) what kind of mixer / controller you have on your desk and what are you using it for except volume??

    all the best,

    Jacob.

  • how did you filmed your screen?

  • =))))

  • Excuse me, is it possible to know the name of this program?

  • MOTU Digital Performer 5.13

  • wow beautiful horn samples........... DP with Vienna Instruments?

  • The horns are VSL Epic Horns. I'm not sure if or how VSL has integrated them into their Vienna Instruments libraries, but I have them in the Horizon Series for Giga, and it is spectacular!

  • @c0mp0ser still using DP5 or did you go to DP7? It's pretty sweet. Also, what controller do you use?

  • Comment removed

  • Quite amazing to see your workflow of putting this piece together.

What library are you using for the BIG Muted strings?

  • Hey man, love your vids. What's your opinion of Symphobia? I'm picking up EWQLSO Platinum in a couple of weeks, but I've got Symphobia in my sights.

Also, your template is insane, and you kind of explain it in your Bidule video, but what are your hardware specs to let you get away with that?

  • Symphobia is fantastic. But don't get it in place of EWQLSO. Get it in addition to it.

    I have a Mac Pro 8-core 2.8ghz 8GB ram

  • Yeah, I was planning on adding it on in a few months time. The sound seems fantastic. It's unfortunate there's such a lack of videos about the library.

And man, I am so jealous of the hardware. ;) Keep up the good work. Thanks for the fast reply.
