the danger is the hold down at a place like that- it could be a minute or more and if you don't get a full breath you are in trouble. otherwise it looks a bit tame - doubt you could paddle into ito it but the tow in looks pretty easy as long as you don't try to fade too much. mavericks looks alot heavier and lines up more with an inside section.

Don't get me wrong I totally admire how powerful and extreme this wave is... but it's just a short ugly ledgy barrel.

This is far from that wave's potential. San Miguel is far enough west that it isn't shielded at all by Pt Conception and is wide open to winter swells. Conditions change fast in the Channel, it's windy as hell most of the time, it looks like that wave's got a pretty narrow tide window, and it's more than a three hour tour from Santa Barbara go get there. We may never see it surfed again, although I sure as hell would have wanted to see footage of it on the monster swell of 2005.

It gets BIG there, really big and when it breaks it could go all day. 50 miles out to sea, so if you hurt yourself out there you can forget about a quick trip to the ER to set a bone or a few stitchs. If you wipe out Big at Cortez, there will be no more Boom Boom for you dude (Aussies Incuded).
