@BCoutdoorsurvival To be honest I do not use this coffee maker anymore unless I'm in the shop. I have a snowpeak 700 with a lid and I found a coffee press for a Jetboil mug at REI's Garage sale. It fits perfectly into the SP 700. I had to drill a hole in the lid and that was it. It breaks down and fits inside the mug along with my Feather Fire Stove. Right now I am working on a homemade version using a Fosters Pot so keep your eyes open for that video.
@makeshitwork The smaller holes were drilled using a sewing needle. I later started using a 1/16 drill bit as the smaller holes caused the coffee maker to over flow. I grind my coffee coarse and did not have issues with the grit at the bottom of the pot.
hey just to let you know i too am a coffee drinker and until now have always been disgusted by instant. well now starbucks has single serving packets of coffee and you should give it a try definitely more compact and less weight on your pack. and plus it is delicious. i am picky about my coffee and i like the starbucks single packets. its called starbucks via and tastes just like a fresh home brewed cup 'o' joe
This is a rather old video and I have not had a chance to post a video on the Coffee press I use on the trail now. It is a bit difficult to create but worth ever minute after you taste the reward! I have tried the Starbucks single packets and your right they are very good, but I prefer a home blended coffee I make. Thanks for making this known for others. Have you made a video, if so attach it to this one and let more people know. Thanks again for the comment!
You have really interested me in making one of these, however, I am having a heck of time finding the correct tin size?
Seems to me, it has to be 2 3/4 inches in dia to fit tight enough for the (outer ring on tin) to sit on the pot, so your lid is actually above the pot?
If so, I have only been able to find 2 1/2 and 3 inch dia tins.
I expect they would need to be food grade also.
Any ideas on where one mite purchase these, I am in the Chattanooga Tn area.
When I bought the first tin I got it out of a candle making section of a arts and craft store. Either an AC Moore or a Micheals. I know I have found them in Hobby Lobby as well! OMG I just admited to going into these places! I was following my wife in I swear! LOL.
I was killing two birds with one stone! Video and laundry at the same time, plus it was my first video. If you notice in future vids I only have a radio in the background.
You obviously don't understand that this is for backpacking, camping, and other situations where, I don't know, there is NO ELECTRICITY. A coffee maker is a moot point in those situations. Peace.
Great idea, man! I also hate the coffee single bags. I have been bring a small french press, but I like your idea better! Definitely lighter than the glass in the press. JBM on an AT hike, anyone? Peace.
Great Job, this is exactly what I was looking to build then I took a short cut and made a different style altogether. Now I need to get back in the shop and try and copy this one thanks for the inspiration.
Great idea. i was reduced to bringing an italian espresso maker with me. It's aluminum, but was too much weight.

Gr8 vid, NCHiker! Sometime ago, I had the same idea for those little tins. They work good for baking muffins. The coffee perc is fantastic, good job!

This is by far the coolest backpacking idea I have seen yet! Hot coffee just the way I like it perked!

If it was a bit deeper your could probably steam a decent amount of vegetables while boiling something else.
