How could Toronto be categorised as one of the safest cities in the world when its subway has no glass or something to protect people from the train line ?
I don't see anyone would compare the TTC subway to the London Tube... the tube's an older more extensive network... and London needs a better subway system b/c the city wasn't built to accommodate heavy surface traffic.
Toronto will eventually expand on its subway lines.. but for now we're working with streetcars b/c they're cheaper. They're also my favourite way to travel in the city.
Just sit in the back of the car, and watch the city slide on by beside you.
Want more CASH, TTC? Well then, all levels of gov't should jointly hire an INDEPENDENT AUDITING FIRM to keep track of every fucking dollar the TTC spends from Toilet Paper to new engine parts. Only then will we know if the TTC is really "strapped for cash" or if they are nothing but internal theives.
DO IT NOW you fucking assholes at Queen's Park and City Hall. NOW!

Toronto has the WORST transit system in the world! 1. They build the skydome way to far away from union station so they build the stupid skywalk which is a piece of crap. 2. And they don't build a subway line near the airport 3. And they STILL havn't come CLOSE to using a smart card in there system until like 2015 PRETTY SAD!!!!!!
You are incorrct. Toronto has Canada's largest transit system. It is all integrated from bus, streetcar, subway and intercity rail. The PRESTO smart card has already come into effect and the skywalk connect Union Station and the Rogers Centre (SkyDome) in under five minutes.
I agree with nascaracing9. I hate the ttc even though I have to take it everyday to school and back. The acceleration and deceleration of the train is far to strong and everybody falls forward when braking and right when the train stops, everybody falls backwards. This is the most annoying thing ever. Compared to the subway in Hong Kong which also has a fully functional smart card the ttc is total crap.
a LOT, actually. Even though i don't live in Toronto, i visit there like every 4 weeks. And i ride the subway atleast 2x a day. But i do agree with you about buses and streetcars. You never know when they stop, pretty fuckin' annoying.

Actually, there are many cool stations in the Toronto system, including a couple by Arthur Erickson. Even the more basic Bloor Danforth stations have a unique type scheme and an aesthetic that is brilliantly functional (small details like "danger- do not enter" sandblasted into the tiles). Every seen Eglinton's glass Vitrolite and red tiles? It's not Montreal, but I'm tired of hearing this system with many of its own design highlights denigrated like this.

i actually was in Calgary a long while back and i loved the C-Train of Calgary Transit. I liked how it traveled outside and the traffic had to stop for us...hahah Back then, at least, there was no problem I guess things are getting worse everywhere...but Toronto takes the damn cake.
infact, during RUSH HOUR, the trains in Toronto barely move at 20 km/h (no frickin joke). Now that's ironic....
overloading on the system. slow zones are everywhere except the tokyo metro which is just an incredible system. try riding calgary transit during off peak or better yet, northbound from downtown at 1am on a saturday night... OH WAIT, THE SYSTEM IS OUT OF SERVICE AT THAT HOUR.
so what? the TTC is out of service BEFORE 1 a.m. in some areas and by 1:15 it pretty much shuts down.
the TTC subway system is now fucking plagued with "slow zones" - idon't know what gives them the RIGHT to slow down BETWEEN stations...i mean do those assholes even know what a "subway" is? I mean if there is traffic to THAT extent in the tunnels then just Take The Car (TTC)

again, look at London. Something in the area of 5 million people use the Tube everyday and EVERY one of their 400 or whatever number of stations are IMMACULATE - just look at the tracks - NOW THAT is what I call respect. AND VERY VERY WELL DESERVED THAT TOO.
Then there's the fucking TTC - just go to Bloor or Yonge and look down at the tracks - enough said. and why you ask? people have no respect for the TTC and WHY THE HELL SHOULD THEY?
I think it has to do with far greater car use and accommodation of car use in general in North America. I think that the people who choose to take transit have a lot more respect for the system and care about its success. In the big European cities, I believe more people make the choice to commute through public transit and it's more popular in general. Thus, the system both gets more funding and more respect.
huh? someone from england talking about how great they are and how much better they do everything? what a surprise!
who gives a fuck about the 'condition' of the stations? it's not of danger or discomfort to me, as long as i get from a to b safely, i'm happy. what you pay for is what you get. it's better than a city like calgary which has clean (but horrifically ugly) stations and awful service.

i actually feel sorry for the TTC - FULL OF internal corruption and theft so much so that even giving their fucking management 50 BILLION dollars a year in funding STILL would NOT be enough.
Also, even if it was properly funded, the whole operation is so amateur.

40km/h average speed is much better than London's 35km/h average speed, which you claimed was better. I don't know what "average speed" you're referring to.,.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
perhaps you don't know what "km/h" means. I have lived in London for many years and the fact that London's buses and trains run like CLOCKWORK means they have to be AT A STOP FOR A PARTICULAR time and to get there, those trains go MUCH MUCH faster than 35km/h.
The TTC however, is a piece of shit and the trains show up when they want and they depart a station when they want. THERE is ZERO organization, ZERO scheduling and of course it feels like the TTC travels at ZERO km/h
you said "average km/h" so I thought you were referring to the average speed that trains go in a given time, stations with stops close together will spend more time standing still and will have a lower average km/h. You're actually referring to TOP SPEED. And you clearly don't live in London, I do, and it's not as great as you imply it is. The best metros are Soviet ones like Moscow and St Petersburg, but London has it's charms.
