Wow...this Rendang is INDONESIAN Food. It's very delicious and now more people especially the Europeans to like it. I am surprised how the Malaysian took it and cooked it in a complicated, way far form the original Indonesian recipe. Oh pleaseee...don't call it Rendang. You ruined the Indonesian Traditional Food.
Kuddos to the lady! I'm originally from Singapore, now live in Anchorage, Alaska. Your mom kinda reminds me of my late mom, not the looks, but her creative style of adding potatos & tomato to rendang :)

Just to re-iterate to many player haters out there - NOT ALL rendang recipes are the same. You can put whatever you like in there (potatoes/soy sauce etc) as long as you have the main ingredients. The best cooks are the one's who can adapt a recipe to their own taste or to suit different palates. No one has said this is authentic!
@Marmalade06 authentic as in original get it......? would u call adding soya sauce a malay dish, yes u can add anything you like but then it would not be rendang.
@kenakaren Oh yeah I get it...Actually in Sarawak they put soy sauce / kicap in Rendang, this is in Malaysia. Maybe that isn't Rendang either? But they call it Rendang. I can call my spaghetti bolognese 'Spaghetti Bolognese' but I don't know how they did this before. I add mushrooms and anything I want, but I should probably just call this spaghetti and sauce, just so I don't offend anyone :(

I left out the potatoes and cooked this in my slow cooker - it turned out beautifully tasty - I added the biloed potatoes afterwards - warmed us up good on a cold wet snowy evening!! Ps your mom is great!!
im trying to cook rendang at this very moment, im trying to get it as authentic as it can get, Malaysian style! wish me all the best. Its to promote Malaysian food, here, in the US ! :)
many thanks for the rendang recipe! just finished making it and im boiling it down because it is a bit too soupy not like in your video. the taste however is divine! everyone entering the kitchen was oohing and aahing! Special thanks to your delightful mum!
Hi supersphie777. I suppose my mum is adorable, I don't see her that way, she's just mum. And she's a good cook.
I use a Flip video camera. It has great sound capture and it's great in low light. I highly recommend buying one because it's very portable. I edit the captured footage on Final Cut on a mac.
Thanks for your kind comments sanraal7. You made my mother's day. More Malaysian (and Mauritian dishes) will be uploaded soon. My mouth is watering already :)
Thanks for the guide! I already had various recipes for Rendang beef, but this one was pretty detailed with all explained. It's very nice to see that Rendang has that many variations.

Looks tasty. However, whatever you cook, its good to cover the wok with a lid so that the food cooks well and the real taste and aroma is retained.

For those who complain that this is not the 'real rendang', what i can say is this is definitely gonna taste good.
All the rendang signature ingredient is there.
There are many different ways of cooking rendang in malaysia too. In indonesia, the preparation also might vary.

this is not the rigth way to cook beef rendang
where is the toasted coconut? where is the dark soy sauce? where is the turmeric?
these spices are missing....
wastedyouth14 2 years ago
1) You need to watch Part 1!
2) Not all recipes are the same!
Marmalade06 2 years ago 2
the 'kerisik' is there i thing in the 1st part of the video. We usually don't put soy sauce here in malaysia especially in Perak.
Well, there are many variation of how rendang is prepared. This i can say, a different rendang but the signature ingredient is there.
alefamzari 2 years ago
Why the hell do you need dark soy sauce in rendang for?
