@WoWkiddymage It sounds ok, what Mother board are you putting in it. If it allows Sata 6gb/s then run 2 hard drives of equal space in RAID 0. 64 bit OS, and I have heard about some recalls on the sandy bridge. What CPU cooler are you running?

@WoWkiddymage You do not need 6Gb sata to run raid. Shows how much he knows. You will want 6Gb sata if you have an ssd that will use the bandwidth, but it is not very necessary. Raid 0 is highly dependant upon workload, but expect to see 2-12% improvement in average desktop workload. Get an ssd instead, a 120GB model will do nicely for most(os and some programs) and your system will absolutely fly. Also you may need more cpu but depends on your games.

@MaxedOutGraphicX What I did to learn how to do this stuff is basically study computer hardware and take apart older computers and put them back together. Keep up to date on new hardware, look at videos on youtube such as this one, etc. Eventually save up some money and buy some parts and start putting computers together. I've built several computers and I've never taken a single class. Learning by experience is the best way in my opinion.

@Satyr910 Like everything with computers it depends what you want to do, how much money you've got etc etc, Nvidia cards are very power hungry meaning you'll have to buy a more expensive psu, personally If you've done your research and you only want to build a kind of low to middle of the range gaming rig for occasional gaming then the 5770 is a brilliant card, other than that depending on how much you want to spend I personally think the 5850 is good or 5870 is an (ran out of characters)

Because a second graphics card gives you up to 95% gain in performance. If I run Crysis on ULTRA settings with one of my cards, I run at around 18FPS.. with my second card running as well I get 50+FPS. BIG difference...

@markman090 It depends on alot of factors ofcourse. A couple of these are: the game, nvidia implements sli profiles in its drivers which is the second factor - driver version, the bottleneck limiting framerate (cpu bound games won't benefit obviously), resolution and gpgpu functions like physx. And ofcourse which videocards your using. In fact SLI and CrossFire have matured over the past decade and they perform very well. If your bottleneck is GPU then sli is great!

But I bought the bulk of it off of newegg, and they have very reasonable prices on things. Plus, many of their products come with mail in rebates (none of mine did however lol). I bought the hard drive, DVD drive and keyboard from memory express, which I don't think delivers to the UK, as they are a Canada based company. Im actually going to put it together soon! around 600 w/monitor and used OS.
