  • does anyone els feel that when you first started listening to tool, you would here a song and say "meh, it's alright" but every time you listen to that song you gain more and more respect for it until you reach the point that your totally obsessed with it? lol

  • @henderson1722 Yea, I'm one of them. I've had this CD for years and I finally let this song play through and now, I can't get enough.

  • our souls are taken at birth ,in order for the animal to surface, to battle the true evil, nature itself.we must overcome nature, the killer.when we do,then and only then will HEAVEN in our UNIVERSE realized.HEAVEN CAN ONLY EXIST AMONGST THE CREATIVE SOUP THAT IS CHAOS.NATURE AND ITS RULES WILL DESTROY MAN IF THEY ARE NOT OVERCOME. ONLY THEN WILL OUR SOULS RETURN,PURE,AND FREE OF ANY CONSTRAINTS,TO MARVEL AND LOVE WHOLLY WITHOUT THE SADNESS AND FINALITY OF NATURES DEATH TO DESTROY WHAT WE LOVE

  • My fuck has just been minded

  • @HeavyMetalGuns Exactly xD

  • whats the instrument that starts at 1:35? please tell me

  • @Studkip Good question, not exactly sure but it does sound like a stringed instrument played with a bow, then processed with some effects. I'm going with a viola with an electric guitar style pickup.

  • @extropian thank you! I did some research on the instruments used in this song and one of the instruments used is called a sarangi which is a stringed indian chordophone , but I wasn't quite sure if the instrument in question really was stringed or not just a woodwind. Guess I just needed a second opinion. If you hadn't helped out this would have been bugging me forever. I owe you one :)

  • people and their paragraphs. take the music in as you want. don't try to make others see meaning

  • @robhartjr1993 thats a bad trip.

  • YESSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!

  • why would unborn 6 month babies be subjected to a life they have no knowledge of? imagine...a world..born into..what if..you had no one guiding you...to a specific religion or choice of lifestyle..you chose it yourself while having the same vision as us 21st century humans. we dont suffer in the after life. maybe if u choose to. but for real...as a human...why do people come to us when they die? because we will meet again. common sense says in real life..be good to each other. money fame.fuck it

  • Profondamente fantastica, una delle migliori composizioni dei Tool...veramente geniali!!!!

  • Its reeeeealyy hard to pick one from Lateralus but for me this is the one!

  • Sexy song, <3 tool

  • The ablum Lateralus is gold. Something not of this world for sure. Reflection, The Grudge, The Patient, and of course Lateralus itself is fucking phenomenal. It's a good album to throw on when you are on a good trip. It takes ya to places unknown.

  • @TheGreatJambi YES. It's art imitating life, or life imitating art, or whatever the fuk... Problem is, if you actually confronted the actual band with your enthusiasm.. Well, they'd have you arrested. :)

  • Aw... wasn't the full song.

  • just one of my best trip.......

  • I listen to this while I run through the forest like a minotaur is chasing me.

  • The single best album composed by man.

This album has improved so many lives, including my own. Thank you "][" {[]} {[]} ][_

  • YOU OVERTHINK THINGS. BUT THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH THAT. AND BESIDES, WHO AM I TO SAY SUCH A THING. IT IS MERELY BASED OFF OF MY HEAD AND HOW I FEEL ABOUT THINGS. I"M SORRY I SAID WHAT I SAID. ALTHOUGH I STILL FEEL THIS WAY. ONCE AGAIN I APOLOGIZE. I'M SURE YOU ARE A GOOD PERSON. HOW ARE YOU?

Beautiful, but I can't lie and say i enjoy listening to it.

Hits too close to home, and stirs up memories that bring fresh tears to old tragedies.

  • You guys want to BLOW YOUR MINDS? Look up The Sheltering Sky by King Crimson. I couldn't believe how identical it is to this song, at least in the first several minutes.

  • @the0imperishable SUCH A GOOD BAND, WILL DO

  • ha cute girl waiting to be discovered

  • So crucify the ego, before it's far too late

To leave behind this place so negative and blind and cynical,

And you will come to find that we are all one mind

Capable of all that's imagined and all conceivable.

Just let the light touch you

And let the words spill through

And let them pass right through

Bringing out our hope and reason ...

    before we pine away.

    ...wow unbelievably beautiful song

  • is it possible to be addicted to a song? I swear this is the first song I've probably ever craved when I'm not listening to it. I was in my 3 hour lecture class tonight and I was literally jittering my feet because I wanted to get out of class and listen to this song.. pretty crazy

  • @Retrospectx9 music and art is a drug, stronger than food, sleep or drugs, lol :D

  • @Retrospectx9 Been there.

  • @gracii92 Nice.

  • @Legobuilder.

    Grow a sack.

  • You cut off the end!!! :(

  • some of the art looks disturbing to me!

  • Yeah im God.

    Machine God.

  • Yeah im God.

  • oh how i love LSD

  • no fucking band can do anything like this. I said "fucking" so put me as the top comment already.

  • Most precious of theirs <3

  • in the picture with the baby bein born, it has a halo around its head, symbolizing holiness/purity. but, christianity states that we're all born sinful........ idk where i'm goin wit this. tool forever. love the song.

  • @opethinchains truth is we are born pure, but the corruption we grow up with is what makes us bad

    people arent born bad

    we are infleunced

and i dont think that is a halo

i think its ment to symbolize mind and its power

i have a feeling im wrong though haha

  • @tanvo93 eh, who knows. classic song in my book anyway. haha

  • @tanvo93 Yeh thats the truth if you're a behaviourist, lets not forget there's plenty of other theories and opinions about other than your own!

  • @bdalem guess its a belief then, not a truth

    thought i had two cents

turns out they where chucky cheese coins haha

  • @tanvo93

It's all about what seeds you tend. Everyone is born with the seeds of good/ evil, right/wrong, anger/understanding...

  • @powertothepeaceful90 thats the idea i was trying to get at man, at least similar

im just bad with expressing ideas through words sometimes (alot of times)

  • @tanvo93 im pretty sure its our decisions that make us who and what we are... not " the corruption we grow up with." ur right.. people arnt born bad... but its OUR choices that WE, as individuals, make that shape us. nobody can MAKE u pull the trigger... nobody can take ur place in prison if you do. Influence is a bad way to put it.... we are exposed to a lot of shit in life... its how u respond 2 the shit is what determines your path.

  • @M0oM0o1 cool story bro

  • @M0oM0o1 one must walk the middle path... meaning that good and evil do not exist. and are only manifestations of the dualistic reality that has been put in place for us for about 13,000 years. We create good and evil. by trying to accomplish peace; you actually are fueling evil indirectly. because evil only exists because peace exists. The way to walk the middle path is not to see peace and evil as separate rather as a whole serving the divine purpose of consciousness.

    Namaste

  • @MrEandtheDUKE its the journey into the true self, rather than journey into the physical realm we are all acustomed to. Let yourself be found, and the conscious energy will seek where pure divinity is conscious.

    ie: the true "Human Being"

  • @MrEandtheDUKE excellent!

  • @M0oM0o1 I agree with everything you said, except that we are born pure. We are born selfish and egocentric. That is why most children are like that. It is a left over trait from our ancestral evolution. being civilized is repressing those traits and uniting for a common group goal

  • @M0oM0o1 NO CATHOLIC CHURCH SAYS HUMANS ARE INHERENTLY EVIL. :) trololol

  • @Sidepiece2 but we are .

  • @M0oM0o1 That is absolutely untrue. What about the conscience? What about guilt and humility? There are many people I know who apply rationality, cast away society's more ridiculous virtues, and still retain certain aspects of morality, not because it is environmentally instilled, but because it agrees with their logic. You're peddling complete psychopathy like its ADHD. If we all act off basic instincts, then where the hell did 'good' come from? A schizo? Or am I misinterpreting you?

  • @M0oM0o1 being born pure does not mean corruption should not exist. the two things do not marry. I think if you investigate that thought, you will realise that it is based on irrational beliefs.

  • @M0oM0o1 "instead of trying to tackle such a difficult question (ie where does evil come from), it's easier to accept that inherently we will do almost anything to survive and human nature does not distinguish between good and bad" Just because it's "easier" doesn't mean that is the right answer.

  • I have a firm belief in our oneness with all. You are spot on with your interpretation of his reinforcing ideas. Music is such a powerful tool in this spiritual journey. <3

  • I've had OBE's listening to this song. I've also had some crazy lucid dreams, involving spirals and geometric shapes. I love to meditate to Lateralus. I feel that most songs on the album directly relate to my life in some form or fashion. <3 Especially "The Grudge". I had to listen to that song. I had to let go. When I did...I changed as a person.

  • @amynbobby sounds like you drop acid.

  • actually i am afraid of being in the dark and being alone, but whenever i listen to tool all these phobias disappear and i feel completely save, i feel home, i lie on the floor with my eyes closed and just fade away wherever i want to... wow i love tool's music.

  • 35 dislikes?? how you can dislike this?? 0_0

  • @TURBOREGNA I love the song but dislike that this particular post of it ends 1:10 too soon. Just sayin.

  • This song is a special secret.

  • 5:50 that one is H.R. Giger

  • We may find peace within the emptiness.

  • this song is about aliens!

  • @viclodoggbevo aliens in seek of angels and vampires :P oh god what has the devil done to us earthlings

  • Beautiful piece. Words cannot capture the essence of this art adequately so I will suffice in saying that just play the fucking song. <3

  • Is this song intended to be super-sacred, or do I just perceive it as such??

  • This whole song/video is a 10-minute blend of perfection

  • the band is smarter than us lowly humans can ever comprehend.. this is why I think they put it out there for us to enjoy.. for us to aspire to greater things, mind, body and spirit..

  • @Efnscreenames You`re perfectly right! But we`re not lowly humans, Tool tells us that we humans are great beings we just need to listen to our soul

  • Beautiful f$#ken beatiful

  • This song really reminds me of the vibe heard in the Genesis port of the original Mortal Kombat.

  • didnt even go to the end...

  • AWESOME!!!

  • this song remembers me of bruce lee.

  • This is Spirit, in the Triad of Mind, Body, and Spirit. Funny enough, the Body song is called Triad. And the Mental song is Disposition. Such an awesome way to end an album...

  • @noogetful You should see it played live :)

  • @noogetful Damn...that makes a lot of sense, I was wondering why these songs were so different than the others off Lateralus and if you look at the back of the album by these three songs, there are 3 white dots by them. I'm glad you said that lol

  • @noogetful not the last song. the pieces

  • REALLY shitty that the song cuts off at the end without the appropriate outro... other users on youtube were able to upload the entire song, but this version has the best visuals. It's not fair.

  • Favorite song by them. Favorite artist. The only pieces of art ive seen that make me want to cry because it makes sense.

  • its like a walk through the ancient cave that leads to the begining again, every travel is still the same but feels different, who am i after all this time walking in circles, what are these changing feelings telling me, have people found this cave before me!

  • This is a masterpiece.

  • Does anybody know what scale and tuning Adam Jones uses in this song? I'll admit I'm too lazy to google it, But Love it.

  • @SimplicitySnipes always dropped d tuning maynard sings in d melodic minor all the time...play D maj. minor or pentonic scales.....

  • @SimplicitySnipes it'd probably be easier to google it than to sift through unhelpful responses on youtube, like this one for example.

  • Is that Jimi Hendrix at 5:01 ?

  • this song is a mantra. thanks danny.

  • Who is the artist responsible for these magnificent images?

  • @thebookwormdiaries - "I simply must find the artist responsible! He shall have fame, fortune, anything his heart desires!" No, but seriously, the artist is Alex Grey.

  • @thebookwormdiaries Alex Gray good sir

  • @Zuklar and so I am...

  • does it mean something if im listening to this and got a raging boner? o.O

  • My favorite part is from 8:24 to 8:49. Tool is truly a legend.

  • And Tool is a sell out. He says so himself in one of his albums. Where do you think the betterness of the band and the spiritualized part of it came from? All part of the cointelpro of the movie stars to counteract the cointelpro of the government. This is why I fucking love Tool. Because they are soooo good with their music and they are not even part of it.

  • Am I the only one that thinks that Alex Grey's art work is pure creepiness?

  • Damn Alex you got some baddass art , amazing

  • I listen to this song when I'm highh, it gives you one of the best Trips In The Worldd.<3 But of course I have it blasting on my Ipod.

  • Damn this song would really mess with me if was high but sick nonetheless. Great song.

  • @maxstroke You're right, it does.

  • I love how spiritual tool is. Great freaking band man!!! I put them up their with all the great bands like Zeppelin and pink floyd. The message in their music is very powerful.

  • This song is like vocal sex! Its amazing from the first sound to the very end, and it feels good even when its over.

  • My Top 5 Tool Songs:

    1.Reflection

    2.Third Eye

    3.No Quarter

    4.10,000 Days

    5.Lateralus

  • @OreillyORLY Good list. I would counter with Eulogy, Sober, Forty Six & 2, Lateralus, Schism.

  • Hell, the part from 7:30 and on gives me such goosebumps, so spiritual and powerfull, tool is crawling in your mind!

  • this is excellant. these guys can compose some wonderful sounds!

  • "over-thinking, over-analyzing separates the body from the mind."

    Shut up & listen.

  • DUDE?!!! END OF SONG? WTF?

  • Here's what the song is about.

The song is about the experience of oneness, which is said to be felt at the end of Kundalini Awakening (see Parabola). Two flaming eyes join together on the forehead to form a third eye and you are assimilated into an endless, glowing pattern. The glowing pattern at the end would present an experience of "oneness", which is what the song is about.

    Thumbs up please!

  • @othaka666 see top rated comment by zaggiusziggius.

  • Pine away: to fail gradually in health or vitality from grief, regret, or longing (often followed by away ): Separated by their families, the lovers pined away.

spirals are everywhere, and are a grewat way to see growth take shape and have a ending, up to you if you wanna think tacos about this song

  • I dunno, I read somewhere that this song was about our egos and how they wane and bulge every so often. who knows. who cares?

  • I will not engage in a debate about the true meaning of this song.all I know about this song is ......ITS FUCKING EPIC!! on every level of your imagination.let your mind roam while you are listenting to it . then judge it.-

  • The 'all hope is not lost' theme is pretty positive..but I must say, that is just about the most evil sounding bass line I ever heard

  • Bits cure ing me

  • 3:34 is pretty interesting to me. Seems like I can relate to the artwork and music because of outlandish beliefs that I've moreover collected over my lifetime. Everyone's different. Just looks like a man floating through a DNA strand to me. Like a reference towards reincarnation or 'life after the body'. Kinda like life is our key to life. Y'know. Chicken and egg shit.

  • Oh Danny, I wish I were your drums so you would bang me!

Whoah, just kidding, I don't even know where that came from o.O

    But still...

  • @zangoose33 lol ;)

  • Alex Grey's paintings are fucking godlike. I swear he's not even human- same with Maynard.

  • Embrace the true reflection of this track...

  • Just enjoy the art. If you do... No one is better/smarter than anyone else. We are all sharing something special together.

  • Does anyone else think this would be the perfect song for a Fire Temple/Spirit Temple in Zelda?

  • @theamazingzivmaster Zelda 3DS!

i wish i could hack the game and change the music

  • @theamazingzivmaster wow tht was the gayest thing anyones ever said

you are an insult to tool

  • @racechapmandummer54 So because you don't like Zelda (im guessing) that makes the thing I just said a homosexual and an insult to tool. Great logic there mate.

  • @theamazingzivmaster Dude, tool fans allways think they know everything.

I happen to like the idea though. Its perfect for the gorons.

  • @racechapmandummer54 wow the fact you don't even (or can't even) think before you type makes you the insult to tool. Please kindly never reproduce for the good of us all.

  • this song puts me in a trance and sends me to another world. can't believe how fucking unbelieveable they are. the perfect balance of instruments where each is as important the others to create this hauntingly beautiful sound. no other band has moved me so much or has had such a drastic impact on my life. Thankyou Tool for sharing your art with us

  • You could play an entire pop song during the time it takes this song to get started....

    I LOVE IT!
