@MrDon191 Thanks! If you've got any questions about Table Tennis, try out the Ask the Coach section of our website. We love talking about Table Tennis!
@xSnIpEDeViLzZ The key to stopping your opponent attacking is to serve the ball short so that it would bounce twice on the table. This stops your opponent from taking a big swing at the ball. Also try and keep the ball low over the net. The last thing you can do is to put backspin on the ball. The backspin will cause the ball to grip into your opponents rubber and drag the ball downwards again making it harder to attack.
@2012wyvern It is OK to turn this stroke into a punch and if you can do that consistently it is great. To hit it slower you simply need to move the bat more slowly. You could even try almost not moving the bat at all and letting the ball hit your bat and just control the angle of your racket.
Guyz, how can one maintain composure during games. I felt that even if you're good enough with any drills or strokes if you don't have proper composure, you're nothing. Like myself, i tend to be in the attack mode all the time which often resulted to lack of controls and miss the points. I'm over excited with every shot. Sometimes my hand hesitates to strike even if it's clear to attack especially on the slow ball. Please help. Any advice or training that could improve your composure? Thanks!!!
@criticaltinker Hi, the best place to ask questions is on our website. We have an ask the coach section which we check regularly. We can also post longer responses and we have also started to answer the occasional question with a video answer.
the lft foot should not be infront of the right foot if ur righthanded and plays back hand...it makes ur body unbalanced try hit ur self like how he is standing. the hit technice was really good tho :)
That is done to facilitate the transition between backhand and forehand strokes. While the backhand is possible to hit with your right foot behind your left one, the forehand, in the other hand, is impossible to hit with your left foot behind your right foot. To compensate for this foot alignment, players introduce more of a body/core rotation to add power to the backhand.
I can only play very good with backhand and can't play at all with forehand...actually the one's that other smash for a point I totally miss them playing forehand...
I'm the exact same, my forehand only comes into play if i want to hit a long lob, and I don't really have much advise except make your backhand really good. In table tennis you should only really focus on using 1 style to be able to always get to the ball in time. I prefer backhand for this because you can cover the whole table and when you're good can do most of the stuff a forehand can do.
same here! its true you just need to master this and practice a good serve and your good to go i only lob using my forehand or when it's really desperate so just master the block, counter hit and punch using your backhand and your good to go oh yeah and practice a good serve so you can ace every now and then
lol how the hell dose he stands with his feets btw? if ur right handed u should have the feet paralleled with each other or maybe riht foot abit more forward then the left but this guy WOAH his balance is totally wrong
hey nice vids, im just tryin to find out other ways to hold the bat. mine is the exact same as yours, and i like it but i just want to try something new, do u think u can post a vid on it?
That's a Chinese thing man. They have their strokes short and fast. If you want, look at the video response to this video and see(ppgear). I'm posting a video as a video response too.
i guess i prefer the chinese way of play, cse, when i was a "semi-pro" (junior table tennis player) my coach was chinese... and all the sutff i've learned about TT is in the chinese vision of thing ;D
The more shots you learn and know how to counter the more you will be able to deal with different opponents. So I suggest that it is good to learn as much as possible. After you have learnt most of the strokes, it is then good to play as much as possible in a style you feel comfortable with. Hope that helps.
The backhand counterhit does put a little bit of topspin on the ball. The topspin helps the ball drop down allowing you to hit the ball harder but still have it land on the table.
We also have other videos on the backhand topspin and backhand topspin off backspin. Both of these strokes put a lot more topspin on the ball.
If you have any other questions then please try out the "Ask the Coach" section of our website. We check this all the time and answer questions there frequently.

I think it's called a counterhit because most players do not serve with the backhand. So your backhand is usually a counterhit.

i think its wrong, after hitting the bat should be going into inside and out again in a circular motion
darthsophia123 2 years ago
circular motion isnt correct man..
it makes you loose lot of time, power, spin potential and control =D
his movements are quite nice.
i just disagree with 1 thing... he continues the movement even when the ball had already hit the other side of the table o0'
if you take a look at chinese players like wang liqin... u realize that his movements are really short and fast when he is close to table ;D
