  • Very unusual - that's why I like it.

  • She sang this on a children's tv show in the 70's. A song about two two gay blokes living exciting lives - what a brilliant outlook she has - Gotta love Lady Kate.

  • @koko1974ify You can find that perfomance on my profile. Just look for "Kate Bush - Kashka From Baghdad(Live)"

  • Bass+Piano=Pure Win

  • This wonderful young woman broke many taboos, talking about gay men in a positive way.....the BBC must have quaked in their boots at this song.......I must admit she helped me come out in a strange enigmatic, Kudos to Kate xx

  • @TB35 In a way they did. She was meant to sing this on a kidsd show of the day. Instead the BBCdirectors decided it wasn't appropriate. Instead she chose "In Your Warm Room" which is a very sensual song. How they decided it was mroe appropriate for kids I have yet to figure out.

  • @Guttataherp No, it was the other way around. She was going to sing "In The Warm Room", but that song was thought to be too risky so she did "Kashka From Baghdad" instead.

  • @Symphonyofflowers You're correct, my only excuse is old age is catching up on me and my brain.

  • Forget gaga, here's Lady Kate, who DESERVES that title unlike someone else I know...

  • @lucypuddlejumper I'm sorry, in my country "lady kate" is a comic character, I can't help but read this in a cheesy way! lol Kate bush is the best!

  • Bushi 4 ever!

  • It´s very hard to have a favorite artist, there is so much creativity going around so many female singers making such wonderful music, I love Regina, Kate, Nina, Tori, Fiona, María Rivas, Mercedes Sosa, Janele Monae, Grace Jones, Lady Gaga, heavens.....it´s a cycle that never ends and what makes it all that more amazing is that no matter how old you get you will still find great artists to make your choice of a favorite even harder.

  • I think i've just listened to this song fifteen times in a row! it's so beautiful! :)

  • Fantastic! Lionheart was - still is - such a brilliant album !

  • this is one fo my favourties

  • She is so beautiful!

  • It's a shame I only discovered KB just now!

  • Always wonderfull and always uplifting and magical.

  • My Hero and the reason I love music so much

  • Another great track from the Lionheart album.

Probably the best LP she ever released.

  • Yes this song is about two gay guys. I love her, she was pushing our cause even back then

  • @Defn28 No, this song anticipated the movie MIMIC,.

  • @Defn28

"Pushing the cause"? Like, converting people to homosexuality? I understand being an advocate for freedom of orientation, but you make it sound like some sort of conscription into a gay army.

  • @Consequence I think he meant pushing it out into the open...

  • Thank you so much for posting this amazing song , Kate is a true genius.

  • בראש השנה זה, אני מקדיש את השיר ל"קשקשן מטהראן" - אחמאדינדג'אד. HAPPY NEW YEAR

  • Damn it's such a beautiful song. I love Kate ....

  • This is fantastic. But there's an even better version, from her demos album. No drums or bass, only Kate's plaintive voice and her piano. God it is beautiful beyond compare.

  • I always wanted to meet kashka!

  • Seriously this gives me chills. I loves Kate Bush

  • i love your videos, where do u get the pics from? amazing!

  • OMG...do I LOVE the piano work and Kate's beautiful voice, arrangements/melody on this track! Her lyrics are always perfect with er music as well. Thank you so much for posting this! Can hear it a trillion times over and never get tired of it. :-)

  • @zapme9 You're welcome!

  • @zapme9 I bet you are a musician.

  • What a wee gem, love this song so much.

  • dreamy, sensual, enchanting.................

  • Just awesomely amazing in its absolute perfection!

  • I have always loved KATE BUSH. My blog is called THE SENSUAL WORLD Gay themed movies and DVD music. Love ya Kate! xxx

  • being a gay man from kent where she grew up you know how tough it was being gay in kent but kate even in the 70s was so liberal and ahead of her time.

she is so intutive and so inteliiegent, she is the ultimate artist

  • @jxcancan.I think you chose the ideal adjective. She's the "ULTIMATE" artist.

  • check at 0:20 and depeches's cover rom a broken frame...

wouldnt wonder, if its the same photographer

  • I love it, thanks!

  • You're welcome!

  • Notice the word "Window" even appears in this song's lyrics... That's just marvelous.... (I just love it)

  • I am a complete musician guys and being madly in love with wuthering heights since as a child, I am very, very happy with this music here. I can sense in the music's spirit a strong connection with wuthering heights, even though the song's chords sound different. Bush's voice is beautiful with these types of songs.... that's why I favorited this one along with WH. It may be hard, but I might yet find another inspiration.... WH is very magical and extraordinary!. What else can I say?

  • rocket science is not that tough actually. ;p ....Yay for Kathy.

  • duhhh, lives with another man, meaning the characters are both gay males, it's not rocket science!!!!

  • oj Kaska Ty cos kombinujesz

  • OOh OOh the magnificent KATE...my dream woman...Who wouldn't fall in love with her after five seconds. Too much emotion and talent in one small beautiful package

  • @wigginsdesign never too much talent when it comes to oor wee kate lol

  • what song of hers is about homosexuality? i dont think i've heard it yet

  • This song, of course. What did you think it was about?

  • oh! i thought kashka was a girl's name! oops! and i thought the 'living in sin' part was because she wasn't married to him. . .which isnt much of a sin in today's society, but i thought maybe it was set 100 years ago. . and the 'with another man' part seemed like maybe she was married to someone else, but is living with this 'another man', it never said 'he' or 'she' so i guess i just assumed kashka was a 'she'. i feel kind of slow now, though

  • I have done a little search. It seems Kashka ia an African name, but I'm not sure if it's male or female. But in this song it's definitely male. I don't know where Kate got the name from, but the song was inspired by a TV series.

  • Are you pulling our legs?

Wow, also has a gay character in the song too. Hint: vaseline.

  • @alexthenerd1 Don't be so hard on yourself. My name is Kashka and I am a female from Eastern Europe. The name Kasia or Katya is very popular there, it means Kathy in English. I was very surprised to hear that it is also an African name meaning "friendly".

Kate's song however, refers to gay lovers who are very happy but who have to sneak around at night in fear of persecution. And she watches them from a window and envies their love.

  • @onamissionhere I have loved this song for years but unfortunately Kate's song "Moments of Pleasure" puts into music, what happened to a lot of her gay friends.

Still, we find a way to be.....happy.

  • @Symphonyofflowers The song is definitely about a gay man or rather about a gay couple. However, the name "Kashka" itself sounds really female, especially to my Polish ears and especially the way Kate pronounces it at the beginning of the song. U see, the very name "Catherine", "Katarzyna" in Polish is pet-named to Kaśka (with the spelling I have just used, notice the apostrophe over an 's') and it is pronounced exactly the way Kate sings "Kashka".

  • It's funny (e.i.strange), as the lyrics make it clear it is about gay guys.

In Polish you can find lots of such girls' pet-names: for example Maryśka (Maryshka) for 'Maria' (Mary) or Kryśka (Kryshka) for "Krystyna" (Christine)...

  • I wonder if Kate might have heard the Polish word "Kaśka" before she wrote the song.... The fact it is a female name doesn't matter really... The Russian word 'babuszka" means "granny" and yet KB fans know it worldwide as "Babooshka" and never associate it with an old grandmother :)

  • @alexthenerd1 And a part of wow is about honosexuality, but hey I never knew pull out the pin was about the vietnam war. I always pictured a man who could either kill kate or someone else in a weird sort of game and she is desperate to live.

  • @thebiglebowski1993 That is the beauty of music and lyrics, everybody takes something different away from a song. And I find that many of Kate Bush's songs require special attention to discern meaning from (PS this is a good thing). . .we can't help but come to different conclusions!

  • back to the music premiership, thank you KB

  • Kate's songs remind of the hills, the countryside.

    Her music is rural.

  • listening to this 30 years ago and now it still has'nt lost it's freshness

  • Don't you mean twenty yea-

Oh my goodness! You mean another decade has gone by and Kate Bush's songs are still as relevent as ever?

    Good job Ms Bush!

  • Wonderful song! Thankyou Lapislazuline for the share and thanks for posting this great vid Symphonyofflowers!

  • You're welcome!

  • @Symphonyofflowers yes, I meant 99%...my #9 on my keyboard doesn't work properly...hey I think your reply healed my computer. Here's to you and Kate Bush!!!

  • Kate Bush has been one of the most under rated female singer/songwriters in the history of popular music.. Her songs are so original, moving and musically complex showing a creativity that 9% of today's female vocalist lack. She's always been my favorite female vocalist. Nothing run of the mill about Kate Bush.

  • Totally agree with you, shes just so amazing, a true one of a kind.

  • Well put! :)

  • @invisiblekiva.I suppose you wanted to say 99%.

  • @invisiblekiva Personally my favourite artist is Tori Amos. And, let's face it, Tori is massively influenced by Kate Bush, who is just genius. Love them both.

  • @invisiblekiva Surely you forgot to add a 9 before the 9%-we are talking about today's bleeding load of useless, tuneless, pointless robotically assembled droids of death. & that's just the women "singers"!

  • @invisiblekiva Yes she is, but critically she's been in favour since her absences have become more marked. Kim Wilde is without doubt the most offensively belittled, denigrated and ignored of the lot, and she's been a songwriter herself since the age of 24 which many conveniently forget, just like how brilliant her music has always been, especially the multi-faceted, dark, edgy new-wave stuff of the early-mid 80s and her stuff's still great now. Kirsty MacColl and Bangles also underrated.

  • @invisiblekiva I lol'd at the 9% figure. But yeah, you're right.

  • @invisiblekiva i wholeheartedly agree with you, i wish more female performers would take a cue from Kate Bush!

  • just beautiful.

    thank you for posting.

  • You're welcome!

  • One of Kate's most haunting melodies, but the simple "demo" version that turns up here and there is better. Thanks for posting this.

  • sensuous is the word

  • Real Class.

  • Symphonyofflowers,

    ah, such a beautiful song

    I LOVE your video_Oh! pretty Kate :))

The drawing (at 2:04) is very succeeded, and so sexy..

it's great you finished your video with this photo of the KT Bush Band, cool and cute ;)

(Is it from a bootleg ?)

    ..Let's raise our hats !

  • Thank you very much! No, I don't know where that last picture comes from. I found it at that French site you sent me. That's where I found the drawing at 2:04 too. I thought it was pefect for this song so I decided to use it.

  • yes you're right, they fit gracefully to the song :))

  • ty*
