  • they are both amazing as this variation is quite difficult. sylvies extension makes the lass diagonal more exciting to watch showing stamina and technique while elisabeths port de bra is more delicate which softens the look and feel of this variation which is hard to do. however they both dont quite make the port de bra change in the beginning diagonal with the turn in attitude look the way its supposed to ... they kind of shorten it instead of really turning and using their arms to complete it

  • the main difference between Elisabeth and Sylvie: the first is trapped in her acadamic cage. The second uses academics to be the marvellous herself!

  • The thing is, both are exceptional in their individual styles. Patel really emphasizes her piques, pas de bourrees and generally her feet more than her whole leg. On the other hand, it's obvious that Guillem has better extensions and control of her legs, so to show that she places more emphasis on the control and sharpness of her extensions. Even from the beginning of the variation you see the difference in where each dancer places her tension, Patel in her feet and Guillem in her legs.

  • que liiinda

  • so beautiful...did u go see the dance?? :) xx

  • Her ARCH *-------*

  • Lovely.. both..!

  • Both beautiful!

  • Sorry, but Diana Vishneva's is better than both. Stunning control.

  • the second one is so boring!

  • Love Sylvie's flexibility and Platel's grace

  • It would interesting to know at what point in their career the two ballerinas in question performed this variation. Guillem seems very young, contrasted by Platel's more seasoned interpretation.

  • She's so graceful !

  • something about elizabeth was just so much nicer to watch.

  • I love them both, but I think Platel has more control.

  • Her pointe shoes look like they are part of her foot :)

  • both are clearly two of the best french ballerinas of all time. I think it's great that they don't have the same feel of music. I prefer Elisabeth in these two videos but i love both as dancers.

  • Absolutely delightful!!!

  • Elisabeth WINS. We all love Sylvie BUT sometimes she just looks like Sylvie doing a variation, BORING. Patel has a wonderful interpretation of the music and she is also cleaner technically which is GREAT.

  • @icarrus4u i cant believe you just called her boring. i cannot STAND you wannabe ballerinas coming on youtube and trashing professional artists you will NEVER be able to emulate. its sad and pathetic. jealousy is destructive. if you were smart you'd actually try and learn something from these extraordinary women instead of veiewing them as your competition. they are NOT your competition.

  • @ILoveFriedFetus I think you should probably learn how to compare technique with dancing. Obviously YOU have ALOT to learn about dancing (PERIOD). I like them both and I will always admire Sylvie, but she does seem as she has said before that classical roles are archaic movements. LOOK IT UP, you probably wouldn't understand that either. Plus any professional dancer who tries to "emulate" another dancer ISN'T PROFESSIONAL. You have alot to learn.

  • @icarrus4u no, you're pissed because i called you out on trashing a prima ballerina. plain and simple.

  • @ILoveFriedFetus Babe, I would never be "pissed" especially by someone like you who doesn't READ. No one's trashing, just comparing. Patel is better here, Guillem looks bored as usual. I really love Sylvie in contemporary works. You'll never win this argument with me, so get over it.

  • @icarrus4u im sorry, what professional company do you dance with? you're a principal where? that's what i thought!!!! amateurs are beyond rediculous with their "opinions" of professionals.

  • @ILoveFriedFetus I've danced with two major companies and several productions companies around the world. What point are you trying to make idiot? Get a life, no one is trashing anyone but I can definitely trash you for being a person with NO IDEA what your saying or trying to say... I bet you haven't even become a pro-professional STUDENT yet.

  • @icarrus4u oh really? what companies? it is simply amazing how many "professional" dancers there are on youtube!!!

  • @ILoveFriedFetus Yes really. You should understand that dance like other forms of entertainment requires people to have an opinion of what they see, hear etc... You obviously have a problem with yourself, your craft or have been subject to criticism to have this sort of mentality. But once, if you so happen to "make it" in the professional world you will understand that people will love you, some won't and most won't care at all, that's life. Grow up.

  • @icarrus4u what i have a problem with is people getting on the internet, pretending to be shit they're are not, and picking on people who are professionals in their craft. you've slyvie boring TWICE now. who the fuck are you? a big fat nobody. which is precisely why you must trash those you are jealous of. grow up.

  • @ILoveFriedFetus You poor thing... I love my art-form and many other forms of dance. I also love Sylvie, I even have personal videos on youtube of her, which has received over 500,000 views. I'm not trashing her. Ballet isn't a billion dollar industry babe, many people think it's boring or they can't understand what we see... Are you going to dislike the world because it that... I basically ruined your life because my opinion is different than yours LOL!

  • @ILoveFriedFetus youre a nobody, bitter at the world because of your mediocre dance ability. you ruined my life? huh? do you take drugs? you sound like you take drugs.

  • At this point of perfection, I think the difference between these two ballerinas is just matter of taste.

  • Platel....magnifique de pureté, de classicisme, de précision, et des port de bras de rêve!

  • I prefer Elizabeth Plantel doing this variation: she has so much control and she is so graceful!!

  • Don't know why everyone thinks Elizabeth is more graceful. I think Sylvie's was a lot more controlled, fluent and beautiful. Elizabeth looked like she was struggling a bit to me

  • Elizabeth Platel was more graceful

  • Sylvie!! Trop Belle :)

  • I prefer Elizabeth Platel's version.:-)

  • je préfère elizabeth platel ^^!!

  • amazzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzing !!!!!

    she is awesome !

  • both are fantatic... but i liked sylvias better, it was nicer to look at :P the other one was also great though :P however it's a boring solo and i hate french choreography :P

  • @MrNocco This is not a french choreography

  • loks like a horse dancing

  • it kinda breaks my heart that you people are actually even comparing her to Guillem. I won't go into details, because it's my opinion and I do respect Platel. but please, for Christ's sake, Sylvie is still alive: don't do such injustice to her artistry.

  • @pointemeout elisabeth platel is also alive?

  • @MrNocco

    Yes.

  • Ahhhh, so lovely! Just peaceful and soothing to watch ...

  • Elisabeth's extensions are good enough... I also prefer her variation, but that doesn't mean I dislike Sylvie's.

  • They make it look so easy, and most beautiful, i tried this at home and scared the cat...oh and I pulled a muscle in my back!

  • Sylvie is A LOT better than this other dancer, Elizabeth? When i watched the second dancer perform i felt like she was in a hurry to catch a bus..she just did the moves she had to do and looked like she was in a hurry and wanted to move on. Not good.

  • Comment removed

  • I think Sylvie definitely has amazing extensions and her precision needs work, but Platel's in-between steps aren't very neat.

  • que delícia de público na 1 variacao

  • She is very good! ;D

  • I can't understand who says Guillem has less control and throws her legs, I think she has unbelievable flow and incredibly graceful port de bras; all what she does is so smuth as a single pas.

Platel is more sharp and fast, but that's a choice of style.. I think Guillem's tempo is scenically most effective.

  • Sylvie is definitely the first one

  • Many years ago, before beginning this variation, the great American ballerina, Cynthia Gregory, and an overwhelming technician in her own right, stepped out onto the stage, took one last drag of her cigarette and then dropped the cigarette butt onto the stage floor before she stubbed it out with her pointe shoe. Lucia Chase, her boss and founder of ABT was furious and when she asked why Gregory had done that, she replied, "It's a tasteless and vulgar pas de deux". I kind of agree with her.

  • Ugh! Her feet kill me! I want to be her! : )

  • Their arches are amazing!

  • magnifique

  • @TorchPegasus2089 No, it's from "Grand pas Classique". It's in the title. : )

  • Sylvie is the first performer no doubt about it!!!

  • @TorchPegasus2089 Raymonda, I believe

  • Sorry danse85, Sylvie is the second!

  • @juanef1 No she is the first one !

  • Sylvie's uper-body is gorgeous, so fluid ! i think she's amazing but Elisabeth's interpretation and use of music fits better the style of the Grand Pas Classique... both are so great two of my favorite french ballerinas :)

  • Both are lovely each with different strengths. I'm a fan of both but love Sylvie's dancing here more.

  • I love both dancers, but I gotta say, I prefer Elizabeth Platel's version of this. The music and choreography of Grand Pas Classique calls for a certain type of careful delicate precision and cleanness, which Elizabeth pulls off better.

  • hmm. elizabeht platel pulled it off better coz she was much sharper and more controlled, but sylvie guillem had much slower music and got her legs up higher, though im not sure how hard that really is for her... XD

  • I think Elizabeth Platel was a lot sharper, which i liked. Sylvie Guillem's costume was prettier and i loved her extension on the devlope. Both were beautiful.

  • Guillem all the way for me. Platel seemed lackluster next to Guillem, like she was so busy being perfect and controlled that she had no energy. Guillem even got the crown clapping along with the music at the end there :)

  • which ballet is this from?

  • wunderbar

  • Elisabeth Platel a davantage de délié.

  • Elisabteh Platel did it better. Her movements are more clear and controlled.

  • @sweetaliena even i have to admit it... sylvie is just throwing her legs about.

  • GUILLEM GUILLEM GUILLEM!

  • I PREFER TO GUILLEM!!!

  • @melgoza0721 me too!

  • I think Sylvie's extensions are more beautiful nowadays and, of course, she is a wonderful ballerina. But I prefer Elizabeth's interpretation; she has more control and she is more graceful.

  • Paris Opera Ballet is by far my favorite company in the world. I absolutely adore them, except for the fact that they're trained to dance ahead of the beat. Being a Balanchine trained dancer, where we dance on the beat, it just drives me nuts. I think the only difference is because of Sylvie's world-wide fame, she adapted her dancing style to accomidate audiences across the globe. Elizabeth always danced like she was trained in school, never branching out of the POB's syllabus.

  • both unbelieveable!! sylvie seems more flexible and strong (in body and prensce) while elizabeth seems more graceful. i cant pick!!

  • Sylvie is fantastic dancer and İdol.. I think noone will be come like her ..So special ..everything I loveee her ...

  • Personnally, I just like Elizabeth a whole lot better. I din't want her to retire.

  • the first one is sylvie :)

  • @danse85 would you tell me wich music they're dancing?

  • @aatjazznan The music is by Daniel Aubert (ballet "Marco Spada"}

  • @MrsSmith152 Thank you very much, I appreciate it a lot! it killed me not knowing it, thnx again!

  • so is the first one elizabeth and the second sylvie? i'm a little lost ...

  • @balletrocksmyworld

The first one is Sylvie Guillem and the second one is Élisabeth Platel. :)
