some other great gitarists would be Jan Akkerman, Jeff Beck, John MC Laughlin, Steve Vai and some others because they are creators of progressiv music.
@tanngard Others that I would include - Django Reinhardt, Andres Segovia, David Gilmour, Steve Howe, Johnny Marr, Bernard Sumner, Alex Lifeson, and more, of course.
To all you good people out there, Frank Zappa is to us the most inventive and creative composer in our living history. He also played the gitar like nobody else.
He left plenty of amazing recorded music for us, but the live show was the thing. Here, the band is showing us something a lot of today's musicians don't understand very well: it isn't just playing a piece "as written" and it isn't all improvised. The song was written and had a specific format, but the performers had a lot of leeway to take the music to different places in the moment. Great guitar solo here. Thank you FZ. We're still trying to learn what you showed us; simple but deeply complex
GREAT BAND I EVER HEARD...sadly Frank's Illness not allowed him to makes things stays under control...Saw them few days before in Montpellier... mixed feeling about this concert...but glad to catch the man live one more time...
@rdnzl1 Yes, the '88 band was fucking tight and absolutely amazing indeed, though my preferred line up was the '82 featuring Steve Vai (and not because I'am a guitar player :-) I really love that band more than the others!). However, in between, I remember I was so excited because I was about to listen to Chad Wakerman, by far the drummer I like the most!
@olivierocerri nahhhhhhhh Terry Bozzio was where it was at.....saw Frank play on my birthday in nyc about 8 times and another 10 times not on my birthday...the best shows ever......The shows with Steve Vai were the shit too he grew up about 4 miles from me a cool cat
@renduke All Zappa's drummers were the business. And all had something different to offer. Met Bozzio in Finland about 5 years ago and he was very down to earth and pleasant. Had a nice little chat.
@olivierocerri I'm glad you got to see him. I saw him 5 times. The '88 band was my favorite, because I'm a horn player. I also saw Stevie Ray Vaughan's final show. That was more difficult, since I woke up and heard the news. That said, you did see the Maestro! His bands were so fucking tight! Absolutely amazing.@ YourArf Thanks for sharing this.

Would be funny if before it ended Zappa said, We will now play the last note of the last song of the last concert of the last tour before the last goodnight
My Idol......The greatest composer of all time. Miss him but extremely happy Dweezil is working to keep his music alive, but without a doubt it would survive all on it's own.
I saw him do this song live on the crush all boxes tour,11/22/80 and it was the best show i've ever bin to! The band was so tight and the sound quality of the hall and the way the pa was set up,man it was so fucking great. You hear a lot about what a great guitar player/conductor/writer Frank was but i have never heard anyone give him the credit he deserved for his electronics and engineering abilities,he was an amazing guy that knew every aspect of a recording studio or sound stage.
@subsonicknucklehead my late husband (RIP) turned Zappa & the Mothers of Invention into household names, when, in the early 70's -as a young, cutting edge, indie concert promoter- he took them on tour across Canada. He did the same with Blues legends such as John Lee Hooker, Willie Dixon, ..and many other little recognized but, monsterously talented artists who finally got the kind of mass public recognition they deserved. ( UR4ever in my heart, H.Z.)
Hopefully people 100 years from now will still be able to recognize what Frank Zappa brought to the table. No doubt he would have plenty to say now about the sad state of music in 2010. At least we have his great catalog of music to enjoy for as long as we wish!!
There are currently 26 thumbs up and two thumbs down for this video. Those two individuals who dare to question the genius of Frank should take their thumbs and stick them up their own ass, then quickly remove, and stick in each others mouths.
The cycle is never done. In times from inet and youtube he is omnipresenter as all times before. Thats a bequest for all off us and it makes Frank immortal.
zappa was king i have loved his work and i have read everything ever written on bhim i own all 73 of his albums... he is missed and will never be forgotten a long as my bloodlione is still going... RIP Zappa LOVE U MAN
He actaully started as a drummer and took up the guitar at 18 In his teens, he acquired a taste for percussion-based avant-garde composers such as Edgard Varèse and 1950s rhythm and blues music. (wikepedia source)
Yep, its true... Zappa attributed his major influences, as I recall (in the Real Book) as... Varese, Spike Jones, R&B and yes... The Blues... If you understand these roots, his music makes a lot more sense (the satire, the atonalism, the doo wop type vocals and the iconoclastic fusion of many different styles that are taboo to mix (Spike Jones concept of Musical Depreciation)... and yes... his solo style which was drenched in the blues.)
I can't wait to see what it's like On the outside now . . . Listen here! I can't wait to see what it's like On the outside now . . . Listen here, yeah! I can't wait to see what it's like On the outside now . . . Outside now Outside now Outside now Outside . . . Sing it! I can't wait to see what it's like On the outside now . . .
I've got it! I'll be sullen and withdrawn -- I'll dwindle off into the twilight realm Of my own secret thoughts! I'll lay on my back here 'til dawn, In a semi-catatonic state And dream of guitar notes That would irritate An EXECUTIVE KINDA GUY . . . Well, I guess that one did the trick! If they only coulda heard it, Half-a-dozen of 'em woulda strangled While they was suckin' on each others' dick!
some other great gitarists would be Jan Akkerman, Jeff Beck, John MC Laughlin, Steve Vai and some others because they are creators of progressiv music.

@graciehunterII He wrote it in his book The Real Frank Zappa book and he stated it in many interviews.

Saying how he started as a guitarist is talking about how he started in respect to his guitar playing not his drumming.!!\\//--
