  • Classic.

  • I love how the Ayah wanted to take Mary with her.

  • Can somebody please help me ??!! There was a children's drama series shown on the BBC in the late nineteen seventies, a bit like The Secret Garden, where the stone creatures magically came to life at night. I have been trying to find out what this series was called for over twenty years now - the theme music still goes round in the back of my head and I'm dying to find out what that is called to. Anybody: help!!!!!!!

  • @PhineasRumey

I think you mean "The Enchanted Castle"

  • This is THE best version! The 1993 one doesn't come close.

  • Yea. Now this is a good production! Done well to the book. :)

  • I almost forgot all of the comment people that the guy who plays Lord Craven plays in Doctor Who on Tom Baker

  • I have this movie right now. If I have a time to watch. I'll watch it soon.

  • We are watching this at school!!!!

  • This was MY book when I was around seven or so...and I watched the TV series in third grade, and now I've found it :DDD coincidentally, my first name is mary xD

  • i've read the book and fell in love with it..

never ever tought there would be a movie/series based on it.. just an old book in the library i tought..

    how many episodes are there?

    could anyone tell me?

  • einfach ultraschlecht gemacht

  • Ohmygod.... this is the one. I used to watch this as a kid, but I never realised it was a tv series. We had it on vhs, made into a film and I've been trying to find it ever since. And all this time I've never checked this version because it said it was a tv-series.

  • @MsSarjen Same here!! The VHS was so seamless, I had no idea either it was a TV series! :) Best version though! I grew up on it too!

  • This is a magnificent version of the beloved book. The little girl playing Mary Lennox is spot on. At one point in the book, Mary is described as "Poor little thin, sallow, ugly Mary...she actually looked almost pretty for a moment."

The little actress as Mary gives an engaging performance. A delightful movie for a rainy or snowy afternoon.

  • she looks a lot like I would have thought Mary would look like, she isn't ugly, but she is quite sullen looking, plain, thin light hair, pale complextion. The other kids I have seen playing mary are always too pretty. I always get a bit confused when someone in the movies refers to mary as plain, when it's actualy a pretty actress playing her.

  • @Rowan07001484 The mary in the 1993 version was quite plain

  • @narniaslan47

I always thought she was quite pretty actualy.

  • i watched this in primary school :)

  • This seems to follow the book closely; the wine and snake are right from the book, as is her appearance; yellow with stringy light hair. Look forward to seeing the rest of it.

  • I think I saw like 5 different versions of this story.

  • I've never seen this version. I've only watched the 1993 version. I say I quite enjoyed it. But my opinion is my opinion. So, I shall watch it, and reserve my opinion for when I've seen it.

  • I've been looking for this version for years. I saw it on Bill Bixby's Pbs show Once Upon a Classic when i was in the 4th grade. Now if i can only find the other episodes of that show..There was one with a wealthy orphan girl who goes to live with her greedy uncle in a rundown mansion. He wanted her to marrry one of this 3 sons. I think there were planes in it, circa 1930s or 40s..anyone know it?

  • @Ritch40 That's Flambards (1979), made by Yorkshire Television, based on the books by K. M. Peyton - Flambards, The Edge of the Cloud & Flambards in Summer. It's available on DVD and there are clips here on Youtube : )

  • can anyone remember the enchanted castle? which ran in 1979 with a total of 6 episodes. I remember the statues coming to life on a moonlit night. Thought there might some clips on you tube ??

  • I remember it well thanks for this!

  • All these many versions of the secret garden, some very lavish, but my favorite has always been the down to earth BBC 1975 production. It's true to the spirit of the story.

  • Thanks. Distant yet happy memories

  • This is a wonderful show from the BBC, which is known for quality productions!

  • WOW I never seen this video of the Secret Garden where in the world that come from

  • @Kellyannk308 I saw this in 3rd grade..... best version, it stuck to the story very well!
